It is actually fair to have a industry one thing to some degree. A lot of other industries do it that way. Only one who is more open is the Detroit Auto show which have an industry week then have public. Cars a bit more ubiquitous so I am not sure if it is fair to hold other industries to the same degree

@@LGB-FJB SHOT Show is a show primarily for dealers who hold FFL's. It makes sense for the licensing and regulating agency to be there if there are any questions or such from dealers. ATF pays for their booth space and follows all the same rules as everyone else. Them being there is a service to dealers. The ATF representatives are there to help dealers and, in my experience, they have done just that. (disclaimer: I am not with NSSF, SHOT Show, ATF or any trade organization. I have been in the industry for over 30 years as an advertising and marketing service provider to manufacturers and distributors)

The report, which surveyed 30-plus years of detachable magazine production and distribution, demonstrated that of the conservatively estimated 963,772,000 detachable magazines supplied from a firearm manufacturer and in the aftermarket, at least 717,900,000 have a capacity exceeding 10 rounds, the limit some states place for lawful magazine possession. The Detachable Magazine Report (1990-2021) confirms what NSSF has known - that the national standard for magazine capacity for America’s gun owners is greater than 10 rounds. With nearly 1 billion detachable magazines in circulation, for both rifles and pistols, they are unquestionably commonly-owned and commonly-used for lawful firearm use, including recreational target shooting, hunting and self-defense. They are “arms” within the meaning of the Second Amendment. Detachable magazines are integral to the design of, and necessary for the proper functioning of, today’s modern semi-automatic firearms. “The data establishes that law-abiding gun owners overwhelming choose magazines that have a capacity to hold more than ten rounds for lawful purposes including self-defense, target shooting and hunting,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President & General Counsel. About 46 percent of the magazines estimated in this study are rifle magazines with 30+ round capacity. The percentage of detachable magazines at 11+ capacity is about 55 percent of total pistol magazines. The amount of 10 and below capacity rifle magazines supplied from the manufacturer is over one and a half times the amount of 30+ capacity rifle magazines. The consumer market totals of rifle magazines show 30+ capacity magazines, over 413 million, are over 30 times the amount available than 10 and below capacity rifle magazines, about 13 million. Further examination of the data proves that of the 717,900,000 detachable magazines for pistols and rifles with a capacity greater than 10 rounds, 209,145,000 pistol magazines are in circulation from combined sales through firearm manufacturers (those magazines included with the firearm) and aftermarket production. Rifle magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds accounted for 508,755,000 and rifle magazines with a capacity of 30 rounds or greater totaled an estimated 448,369,000 from combined sale of those included with a firearm at sale and the aftermarket. I'm in CO. I was at a lot of the committee hearings during the last session and I heard people speaking on behalf of the NSSF support some of the anti-gun bills. Regarding this incident, I think something happened to threated the NSSF financially and that's why they folded. If they ever were an ally, they aren't now.

yesterday I both called and emailed the NSSF asking why they would refuse to support their own research publication on firearm magazines. I spoke with their media contact and emailed him as well. He promised to forward to legal. they need a good explanation and reverse course quickly. The lawsuit already had to be dropped and will be refiled. Call the NSSF and let them know what you think about their decision! I'm persnally impact the restriction and do not take this lightly. The research itself seems pretty straight forward as the stats come from direct reported data.

Curt, NSSF and NRA are both complete and total non starters to me. You make such great points on electronic testimony, so they have ZERO legit excuses. I never went to Shot Show and still think it's the biggest waste of money in the industry. All that money p*ssed away on that show could be going into lawsuits that are being fought. Interesting to note most of the people I see doing coverage for NSSF (to clarify, I'm talking about those doing coverage on behalf of NSSF,not individuals covering the show on soc med) are known FUDDS with large mouth pieces. Self important types IMHO. Right now we need real Pro 2A orgs willing to step up the funding and provide the resources to as you say, work with the agencies like ATF to come up with policy. So yeah Shot Show is and has been a non starter for me forever.

I have had issues with NAGR with how the word some of their fundraising emails. Email titles that aren’t clear who it is from. A name not NAGR for from and “RE: Interview request for my name” when I was job hunting. NSSF is not likely to file a lawsuit in this.
