That is because it is the job of congress to define what an assault weapon is when the law is created. We currently have no federal laws that define an assault weapon so he referred to a program within the ATF that defined an assault weapon as a rifle chambered larger than .22 and has a detachable magazine. He shouldn't have even brought that up and instead just pointed out that the term is a new category of firearm that is defined however congress wishes it to be defined if they pass a gun ban.

This does make a good point,... Who need to be creating definitions or weapons? ATF or congress. Several years ago a similar argument was made about the courts ruling on monopolies of dot coms. It's about eroding rights for nefarious purposes. If they can erode one right in such a way, then they can use the same process to erode any other right. They've already done it, they just want to further erode them more. Then things like unpopular speech will be labeled as "assault speech" and banned, effectively allowing people to only say what the establishment allows them to.

One thing none of these people that want to ban the sale, manufacture, and importation of so called Assault Weapons is that 99% of Law Enforcement uses these SAME weapons...The AR-15 and variants there of. They are known as Tactical Assault Weapons. I for one am for people having what ever they feel they need to defend their home, family, and lives within in reason. It's better having your OWN definition as well as the knowledge for the general idea/definition that society has created up with for the term "assault weapon". Yeah, are you intentionally forgetting that ANY kind of firearm can be self built, and no i am not talking 80% kits. The forefathers of ALL firearms CREATED them from scratch. But but there's an ammo shortage, only if you're brain dead. Here's a extremely novel idea, use pressurized air tank, no need for gun powder based ammo, can also be self manufactured in ANY caliber. No wonder the country is falling apart.

Appointees don't advocate or make law. His job will be to enforce laws passed by congress and signed by Obiden. If he raises his right hand and swears to uphold the Constitution and takes away one firearm he has broken his oath and can be recalled as he will be a traitor. Shall not be infringed means what it says.

*Does it really matter if he is or isn't assigned head of the ATF? Even if he isn't, they'll only end up assigning someone else with the intentions of violating the second amendment.
