GunBlue490 has become one of my favorite KZbin gun channels since I discovered him a few months ago. He's a kind and patient grandfather figure teaching you from his vast knowledge and experience gained over a lifetime. I can remember back when I purchased my first U/O shotgun, I wanted a Berretta Silver Pigeon and walked into the gun store with the cash in my back pocket asking the gun store clerk to pass me that shotgun to look at! To my amazement, when I mounted the gun all I could see was rib! I couldn't believe it. I mounted it again hoping the first was a mistake, but it wasn't. Then I spent the next half hour mounting every shotgun they had until I found one that fit, it was a Browning Citori. I still have that gun today and it still shoots just as well due to the fit. Lesson....a shotgun is one tool you cannot purchase based on looks or what is the "best" . However, I did save $1000 dollars that day which was a good thing in hindsight.

I’m 41 now and for most of my life I used a standard size shotgun with which I didn’t shoot very well. My problem, I’m 5’7” and 130 pounds. A local gun dealer suggested that I start shooting a junior size shotgun and once I did I never looked back. Just something smaller frame guys should think about. Thank you for the video sir I really enjoyed it.

Very informative I learn something every time you post a video. I inherited a beautiful Browning A5 in 16 gauge made in 1957 that I believe has never been fired. buddy22801012 Indeed, that's a precious "sweet sixteen" of the highest order, and my personal favorite gauge. I cannot think of a nicer field shotgun. I might suggest that you contact Briley or one of the other choke companies, and inquire about fitting threaded choke tubes, and if it's a long barrel, they can also shorten it to make a wonderful 26 or 28 inch upland gun for you. 16s have perfect shot capacity for birds.

I, we of all disciplines in the shooting sports community, are forever indebted, cannot THANK YOU enough. Every single video you have produced is an absolute delight. They will be cherished for generations to come, you immortal. Heck, I believe there is a place to squeeze you in there on Mount Rushmore between Teddy and Abe. Agreed, a beautiful Fall day of good bird hunting can hardly be beat. Doubling on grouse or Huns a lucky treat. Couple that with a good hunting partner like your little buddy Benny and you know your life is blessed. Often I think I'm going hunting when in reality I'm just taking the shotgun for a walk. I still feel content at the end of the day. Odd as it may sound, my eldest Son gets more mountain grouse with our S&W Governor .410/#6 on mountain bike rides while scouting elk wallows than any other way. Sometimes 3 a day. It has turned out to be a very handy piece in the collection. He has perfected a mouth-watering Grouse Parmesan. Browned in a cast iron skillet with garlic, onions, and herbs, add homegrown red or yellow tomato sauce, cheeses, and into the oven. Yummy! Wash that dish down with a good home brew or cider and you are indeed a wealthy wealthy man.

little different subject. I have never seen someone at a gun store "fit" a hand gun to someones hand . I've always seen the post "popular" gun come to the counter. I'm 6'6" at 275 former ball player and house framer. When I take people out to the range I am often surprised just how small some people's hands are. Also the lack of hand strength. I know nothing of shot guns and fit. I am intimidated by scope eye relief. I find this gentleman a great source of wisdom and information. I'm afraid that as with carpentry something will be lost with the passing of each generation. Soak up all of this great man's information that he shares.

Very informative. In the last 40 years after having a few shotguns when I hunt birds in the field my go to is a gun that has drawn many odd looks. That gun in the eye of many is beneath them. That gun is a Mossburg bolt action that I would never let go of and the real kicker is it's a 410.The little gun is like a phantom . As for aiming the gun it is a mystery to me, it's simply up on and over in a blink of the eye. And that is shotgunning at its finest for me.

I had a J.C. Higgins pump with an adjustable choke circa 1950, that had the "Extra Full" setting, it also had a setting that was wider than it's "Cylinder" setting. Neat gun, but it was not uncommon to have to pick pieces of shell cup and wad out of the holes.

Fantastic program thank you for making it. If I may add something, Here in the UK there is talk of banning plaswads. Long story short, for fiber [etc] wads to offer the same barrel protection they need to be physically thicker walled. This leads to a reduction in the available "internal" volume of the wad. Fortunately there is an antidote for this, the 3.5" case, however, with a correspondingly smaller pellet load compared to what we have now. Ain't politics just grand [not].

Came across your videos and I was very impressed. I normally hunt with an 870 pump scope rifle barrel Monte Carlo stock. My 12 gauge ( Remington ) With a cheap scope will fire almost any type of rifle slugs or sabot slugs and have a half inch spread at 75 yards. But my 20 gauge, ( Remington pump ) factory scope barrel , Monte Carlo stock, Nycom scope that course more than a shotgun. Question, I cannot get the scope to adjust properly. I was forced to put shims on the front end of the scope so I could adjust down with my shots at 75 yards. I know this is a tough question but do you think it’s the barrel, the scope, or the ammunition, or all the above ? Wish you had a video on shotguns with scopes. But I truly have enjoyed most of your videos so far. And thank you for your service, sincerely Bob Mederos ( L company Rangers 70 71 )

I have a few pumps and autoloaders but usually reach for a SXS double (Parker, Greener, Sauer, etc.) even when shooting trap and almost always for upland birds. Guess I'm a snob but prefer to think of myself as a traditionalist. Each gun has stories and memories attached.
@GunBlue4905 жыл бұрын
This video is about all shotguns. A Parker SXS must fit the same as an Ithaca pump. Regardless of style, cost, and mechanism, as long as they fit, they do the same thing, and if they don't fit, it makes no difference if it cost $30,000 or $300.
@wholeNwon5 жыл бұрын
@@GunBlue490 Absolutely! IMHO, modern stocks are too straight, lack sufficient drop at heel and comb, have insufficient cast, etc. Shooters contort their bodies over badly fitting guns. That's one of the reasons that I usually reach for older guns first. They almost always fit me much better allowing a more upright, natural stance to come on target faster.
@robertanderson82186 жыл бұрын
hi gun blue, love your channel, very good stuff. I was wondering if you could use a defensive shot gun to hunt in a pinch. I have a reminington 870 tactical with what I think is a 18 inch barrel but I"m not sure. Also If not using skeet shot out of the box, what is the equivalent in numbers. Thanks Gun Blue. Also wondering do you tutor., I live within 100 miles. Thank you I love this channel. I've learned so much. Now that I think about It an 18" barrel in NH. is probably illegal for hunting turkey or other birds but I'd like to know about the shot patterns even after this video on the subject because you didn't mention it. Thanks again Sincerely Bob Anderson. Wilmington MA and Windsor NH
@GunBlue4906 жыл бұрын
Robert Anderson In a pinch, sure, but you've got a cylinder bore, which is wide open pattern, that doesn't hold together for many yards with bird shot. However, it would be useable in tight cover for very close shots on upland game, no further out than 25 yards. Remington makes barrels for your gun, which is a better alternative for hunting. Get a good standard barrel of the correct length for your needs from a Remington dealer, and you can use any chokes in it. But an 18 inch barrel is a real handicap that just has no "swing" weight to it, and without choke, it's strictly a pinch deal for extremely limited use.

Ithaca M37s fit me good too. Some mossberg 500s do, and browning A5s seem too feel good too.Some mossbergs seem like the stocks are too long. This is more noticeable when wearing layers in cold weather. Their Bantam stock works better for that. Used to hunt doves quit a bit and do some pheasant hunting with some friends. Miss doing that stuff. Been a long time.

Your videos are great for a firearm novice, like me. Q: Is there a cheek pad and recoil add on that will not alter the fit of my CZ "Classic" but still works well? Ty
@GunBlue4906 жыл бұрын
David Weinberg Shotgun shooters have always been adaptable, and will use anything to make a shotgun fit perfectly. A serious trap shooter will think nothing of rasping his $5,000 trap gun stock cheek piece if it's too thick, nor of adding layers of foot moleskin from the drug store, or shim it with balsa wood to add thickness. Anything that works. However, the very best thing is to seek out a custom shotgun gunsmith who will fit your CZ correctly with a "try gun", as other methods are typically not as satisfactory in the long end. You would be surprised at what they can do are relatively low expense. Often, it will require nothing more than the installation of a pad of correct thickness to accommodate your pull, and will often position your face properly in the process. But don't let sentiment rule. I once had a beautiful 20 gauge original vintage Red Label that I could not hit a barn with if I was standing inside, and kept it too long for sentimental reasons. As beautiful as it was to look at and handle, it was a functional piece of junk for me. You can't always make an ill fitting shotgun fit without having it expensively restocked by a pro, and it won't be the same gun in the end.
@VLK-733 жыл бұрын
I'm still unable to understand the point vs aim difference. I mean when you are pointing, aren't you essentially aiming and vice versa? Is there any other simple way to explain at which point (no pun) the aiming becomes pointing and at which point the pointing crosses over to aiming?
