Sensei Hotton is a man who has found his own natural Karate-Do and is not hamstrung by agendas and politics of large organisations.A real treat and delight to watch his teachings and insight.

Happy days when Sensei Rick shares a snippet of his teachings. So true. Message at the end has made me smile all day. My colleagues are going through Bassai (both Dai and Sho) currently and I feel lucky to be able to revisit this Kata. I hated it for the first 3-4 years of my early Karate journey. It is because or this Kata my Sensei once joked (in Nottingham) "Hey if you did it like today like I told you to all along, on the day of your grading, you would have passed the Black Belt exam" ❤ Ouch, but at least he remembered 😅 (rub it in like MSG seasoning 🫠🙏) 💪💪💪

I've been in Kung Fu, Goju, and now Kuk Sool Won. And his way has help me so much. Kuk Sool comes from Kung fu, but has elements of hard movements within. Hotton sensei approach has help me to understand this more, it enhanced my experience with the hard and soft, that I did see in my Goju practice, Kyoshi Larry Mabson of USA Goju Organization, did say punch then relax, I understand why he said that, but now I live it more.

It would be nice if there was a full kata video performed by Hotton sensei. I saw only parts when he explained the techniques but never full kata. It would definitely be very inspiring and educational. I would love to see the principles he shows in a connected sequence of kata techniques.

it wasn't until I read your comment that I realized this. That would be great to see!

I have heard Horton Sensei speak briefly on this topic once, about 6yrs ago. At that time, he preferred not to perform full kata. Surely what he shares is enough to teach and inspire? Shouldn’t we be grateful for what we have?

It's ok. We can piece together his various demonstrations into a full Kata eventually. Just need to get the camera angles sort of right 😂 Bassai Dai might morph into Bassai Sho, but really they were the one variation once upon a time or other depending on the teachers. ❤ Let the video wizkids do it 😊

Five Elements to Each Technique Explosive Start Fast Acceleration Kime Fast Pull Back Zanshin

Cool. I initially thought you meant the five elements (like in Kung Fu styles) or in Sensei Stan Schmidt's book on the Heart of KarateDo (indont have it but I've heard of the five element concept for Kata practice in it) . earth, rooted. Wood for the deliberate cutting and whipping like Bamboo. Water for the flow and quick transition change or snap. Fire for the oomph/kimé for each strike or punch at the pinnacle or snapshot moment. Metal... I can't remember what this is.. I'm making it up as I go along . I suppose Zanshin and emptiness or quick morphing forms from physical to mental? Now go forth and train 💪🤔

I really like this Guy! Why don't we see this level of skill in the Fighting Ring or cage if you will? Could it be that there is no money in ending a conflict Quickly? I wonder.

@@dbuck1964thanks for sharing... Sensei Hotton's physique looks it.. Prison -sttle...like that bit from a movie where the guy does a reverse bridge/horizontal suspended pullup position... To escape prison ( a full 60 seconds holding). Insane core and upper body strength

Edit. I'm not trying to disrespect anyone. Sorry if anyone felt offended or felt this is in anyway personal. It was all in good humour. In all goodness, I think my MMA and Jujitsu friends have very short hairs so as not to get hair grabbed in their training (not something I need to worry about in my daily practice) All the best from Ireland🇮🇪❤️ 🇮🇪 ----- It's an ongoing KZbin or Karate reddit joke that strange hair styles must go with amazing Karate skill. ❤😅 (I'm Kidding) Seen this with a few masters who, if not wearing strange ponytails or manbuns, they worked as a barber back int he 70s and still sport those haircuts ✂️ my own Sensei in England was a barber and says he still cuts his own hair. But I like this observation. At least we aren't all bald like Saitama (One Punch Man 😅✊)
