Nice car man, I have one myself. MRC Stage 2, 450 bhp 😊 You’re right about finding a good example. As long as the main jobs (oil cooler, DRC suspension, carbon clean, brakes) etc have been sorted, then they are actually very good cars to run.
@rafdrives Жыл бұрын
thanks bro, that's exactly what I said... would you actually recommend stage2?? been thinking about it, and would I need to get rid of the 🐈🐈? big thanks bro
@JC_46 Жыл бұрын
@@rafdrives yeah I’d recommend it for sure it brings them alive. For max power you need to remove the cats they are very restrictive. You’re looking at 450bhp without the cats with a stage 2. The power is all on the sport button too so with sport mode off you wouldn’t know and it’s really civilised but with sport mode pressed it’s crazy. MRC remove the throttle restriction that’s there from factory in the first 3 gears. For me it’s too raspy with full miltek & decat so I’ve just bought resonated centre sections to replace the non res which I hope will make it sound better but won’t impact the power at all

Owned 3x E93 M3. 2 manual and 1 DCT. Did drive them and try to enjoy but two of them were primarily to onsell. They had no character. Super boring and lacklustre in low revs. A B7 RS4 with a decent exhaust and carbon clean is way better. After owning 300+ cars, that's one of the few cars still sitting in my stable.

The overrun sound so true, it's amazing hitting the top of 3rd at full throttle but the sound it makes when you come off is even nicer, honestly sounds a bit like a metal guitar. Not sure what they're saying about droning, above 65 it's pure V8 niceness all the time and if you're lucky you might get 28mpg... worth it.

My avant has been in the garage for 4 weeks getting all of the suspension done, I so can't wait to get it back, it's my daily and it does cost a lot to drive and to fix but every penny you put into this car is reflected in it's value.

I’ve had both. It is a tough call. Exterior Looks: RS4 engine: Tie. RS4 has better torque, M3 screaming top end Steering: RS4 Street handling/roadholding: RS4 On the limit track handling/drifting: M3 Ride: Tie, however if M3 is on 18s with EDC shocks (best combo IMO) M3 wins by a large margin. Build quality: RS4 Interior: RS4 much better although M3 seats are super comfy. Gearbox/clutch: RS4 much better Running costs/reliability: Tie. M3 has rod bearings/throttle actuators. RS4 has carbon build up, DRC shocks and insane brake rotor costs. Both awful fuel economy. Sounds: Tie. RS4 has much better low rpm sound. m3 has slightly better top end sound. Rarity: RS4 I would lean towards RS4, but if you want a special weekend driver for nice weather the M3 is hard to beat. RWD and top end screaming engine are addictive. RS4 is less raucous and a bit more sterile. Regardless make sure you buy a good one!

Other than the security of four wheel drive what the fundamental difference. I mean when we're talking about high performance cars that are 15 years old and 100k miles plus aren't these cars going to have expensive mechanical issues, even minior issues are expensive. Yes you've spent big money on the M3 but imagine starting over with the RS4
@rafdrives Жыл бұрын
this highly depends on the work previously owners did, of these are regularly looked after, things will be ok, although 18 years on the next will never be a selling point, but find one that has been taken care of and you will be good, yes minor work can also be expensive but that's the joy of owning an older performance car
@markrhoden68 Жыл бұрын
@rafdrives I agree but personally I'd always worry about taking on someone else's car, if they've spent thousands maintaining their older performance car why are they now selling it. Maybe I'm just overly suspicious for no reason but if I take on a RS4 or M3 of that age I want to know I've had its issue done rather than taking the word of someone else hence my view on going from a m3 spend thousands to then jump to a RS4 and starting over and taking the risk. Like buying an older house doing up to your satisfaction then selling it to buy another similar house that's been done already but not by yourself. If you're moving to a completely different car, then I get it but this I don't
@nookstarj Жыл бұрын
There's no logic to HP's question. He just wants it. He wants to experience ownership of the car. But equally he is cautious about cost of ownership as he's not a millionaire. For me, he should do his fact find and jump in one. They are legendary cars and it's definitely one most petrol heads would want on their car CV. Me included.

Yes. The first 3 gears are restricted with the flaps at 5.5k rpm but with the tune they are deflapped so the car can run more power all the way to red line. It’s a massive difference when driving it. Reaches red line a lot quicker. This current one is under 80k miles and will be up for sale soon.

Exactly. Standard discs are drilled brembos. It also won’t be anywhere near standard power without a map. They never came out the factory at 414 so 17 years later with just a carbon clean and flap delete isn’t going to make it have more power than standard. Need an MRC Stage 2 to bring these alive. Also you’re right about R8 money idk where they got that from. An RS4 like this on over 100k are worth £15-17k

Tech wise they are both a bit outdated and much of a muchness there, manual vs manual the rs4 has a better box and better ratios, the rs4 is great in all weathers whereas the m3 is limited a little in the wet due to being rwd. I will agree though the m3 has the ability to be more fun as it keeps you on your toes being rwd and allows you to play with the rear end which is much harder to do in the audi even with its 60/40 torque split.
