What a surprise, the person earning a silly amount of money doesn't want to declare what they're earning. Shocking I know.

Well we would see how imbalanced this country is. I mean Richards salary is probably close to half a million a year.

In Scandinavian countries, they go to a government website and you have to put in your ID number and then type who you want to see their full salary. Then the person will get notification of who is finding out what is your salary. In a survey recently in Norway, only 5% bothered to find out what their neighbour/work colleague/celebrity was earning.

Ideally, should be able to anonymise. Really wouldn't want my neighbours to know, don't like to be judged. I'm ok if colleagues find out about people's pay. Imagine criminals targeting wealthy people in their homes.

@@patrickchan2503 The reason why most Norwegians don’t do this is because they will be identified by the target who will know who is looking at their salary. It would be embarrassing for them to be found out that they were looking at their salary.

I've been contracting for years, those that get paid more generally work harder and are better at their jobs. Elevating the poor performers to the same level is ultimately demotivating for the high performers an bad for the company

In the 1980s everyone was able to call the department of employment andvask what the award wage was. If you're employer paid you more you knew he likes you. If he paid less you weight up if you should find a new job. The secrecy began in the 1990's with economic rationalism. Perhaps the government whould determine the award wages for each profession. Make it illegal to pay more than 10% less than the award and compulsory to publish when paying more than 20% above the award.

Having the amount public is beneficial also this business owner mentions performance but every company has to create their own illusion to performance and therefore their value is attributed to a subjectiv emethodlogy if we had data across many businesses we coudl at least get an idea of the averages in industries rahter than a broad view of economic acitivty. also having my earning public is not harmful as long as you dont know what im spending on
