Short answer: YES,I ABSOLUTELY WANT MY GUIDE TO FISH WHILE WE’RE OUT ON THE WATER. Long answer: If I’m with a guide,I’m paying you to take me to water I wouldn’t be able to fish otherwise…that’s it…end of transaction. And yes,I’d expect answers to reasonable questions regarding techniques or how you personally break down a body of water. But if I’m in a boat with anyone, regardless of whether it’s a guide or just a buddy of mine,I 100% want them to fish with me. That’s part of the fun. If you don’t want the guide to fish, then I’d suggest you buy your own boat, find your own honey holes, watch instructional YT vids, and cast until you feel like you know what you’re doing. Great vid Ryan!

I agree with you 100%. I have been with several guides and like you said, I enjoy the learning side. When I can watch how he does things and use that knowledge later when I am fishing alone. I had one bad experience with a guide. Basically, he go on the Trolling motor in my boat. Go on my live scope and stayed on it all day long. I fished off the back of my own boat all day and caught zero, while he had fun on the live scope throwing at fish.

I have fished with Salzman before as well and I do not have any problem with a guide fishing. In fact, I would encourage it. I am such a newb that we won't be able to tell if the fish are biting with me alone. Keep on fishing!

Absolutely, they need to know what the fish are doing. Salzy lost one at the boat that was every bit of 8 lbs. i was disappointed that he didnt get it. I did catch a 6 on that spot.

Absolutely unless ur asked not to. If your clients are paying attention to how ur presenting the bait they will learn alot. That's when u can observe things like line size making a difference.

I have fished with Salzy several times and have enjoyed every trip. We had fun and I learned every time we went out. It doesn’t bother me if he fishes, a lot can be learned by watching what he does. No one and I mean no one gets more excited than Salzy when his client hooks a big. Keep doing what you do, I hope to fish with you again soon!

If you guide me I expect you to fish with me. It’s all about fishing and learning how. Fishing with a Pro would be a blast and a great day.

I've had guides fish that should not have been fishing and guides that really helped by fishing. A guide on Bull Shoals told me years ago. This is not a paid day for me to fish. I did notice the video you're talking about. Clients don't give a care if you catch fish. Simple as that. Kids and you let them reel them in yes.

Yes you should fish and for all the reasons you named. Even if you have the right bait, I’ve seen subtle differences in the retrieve that gets bit 5 to 1. It takes a guide fishing to find what lure and what retrieve will put the most fish in the boat.

My opinion : Guides fishing depends on how many in the boat and what the customer is trying to learn or accomplish. If it’s just catching fish the then guide should fish until they figure out the pattern but should also be instructing angler where to cast and what to do. The guide should be fishing always from the back of the boat allowing the customer to have first crack at fish. The customer also may be trying to learn a technique , seasonal pattern, reading water or depth finder.

Whos going to run the trolling motor if the guide is on the back lol!! We fish moving bait patterns. Its not a spot.

@@AlabamaBassGuide Many trolling motors have remotes and/or long cords. I have let my son fish up front many times and controlled boat from the back.

The guide should absolutely fish to find the fish. However, when they do, the focus should be back to the clients. Having 2 clients on the back deck while you catch a 7+ isn’t ideal. All that said, if the client is happy, then you’ve done your job.

A guide should do what he does best. Guide. And if someone is telling a person who guides how to do his guide business, and the guide is successful, and they ain’t paying the guide for giving him their advice. They sound kind of like the Democrat Party to me 😁😎. Stay tuned for more free philanthropy poopy scenarios of “The Life of Democrat Thinking in America Today”. 🤪.😂😂👍👍
