Bells on their collars may be a bit annoying to our furry friends, but there are several pros of making them jingle out loud.
Pro #1 A Bell Helps Track Your Kittens
Kittens are easy to lose track of as they sneak into tiny little spaces and often don't know how to get out.
A bell on a kitten's collar loudly announces "There's a kitten in here!" and saves the little troublemaker from getting stuck or lost.
Pro #2 It Keeps Bully Cats Away
If you have a cat that's been constantly bullied by other cats in the house, a bell on their collar can be of great help.
The bell will ring when the bully attacks and will make them run away knowing that the owner is about to come and intervene.
Pro #3 "Saved by the Bell"
When the cat is roaming outside, jingling will let vulnerable potential prey, such as birds and rodents, know that a predator is closing in.
However, please note that Cats Protection advises: ”While you might want to attach a dangling item like a bell or ID tag, this isn't advised...
...Cats are at risk of trapping small items in fences or small areas, often resulting in injury.”

The bell's noise might be irritating to sensitive cats and frighten timid cats up to the point where they avoid moving around!
Con #2 The Predator May Become Prey
Granted, a bell may save other animals from your cat. But it can also flip things around, alerting bigger predators that there's a cat nearby!
Bottom Line: Should Cats Wear Bells on Their Collar?
Despite several pros, there's no real need for your cat to jingle around. In general, cat collar bells are not a vital accessory for domestic cats.

A quick release collar comes off so easy. Our cat easily removes it. The bell (I squish it so it's less loud, almost nothing) helps keep my cat from catching birds too easy and making neighbors mad. Normally I'm totally against both. But this new kitty is like a dog/cat. He hunt, he wants to adventure, Normally not far. But he comes when called lol

Our Cats Only vet said to never "bell the cat", and isn't a fan of collars as a whole. But she does recommend microchipping in case of emergency.

A cat specialist told me that you should not put a bell on any animals and shouldn't put a collar on a cat

That is a prevalent opinion. I don't put a bell on my cats but I know a vet who does!

My cat would lose it if i ever tried to put a collar on her, with or without a bell!! She does not play with any of the plastic cat balls with bells inside them. She prefers toy mice and fish with catnip in them. Loves her laser pointer and old losing lottery tickets!!❤️🐈‍⬛😊👏👍

It’s your cat,but chipping it’s nails to short,not letting it go outside,and putting a bell on it,is pretty tough on a cats natural instincts and mental health. Like humans,animals sometimes have no use for petting,don’t want to sooth that primal fight or flight mind. Because my cat hunts,he worries about being hunted. Two reasons to be very still under cover ,and very alert.

Cat stalk their prey too slowly and smoothy to jingle their bell collar. By the time a bird hears the bell it’s too late to save the bird as the cat is in full speed ambush.

Im using a bell for my cat so I know where my cat is. I can always take the bell off the collar but I would prefer to know where my cat is.
