Ronaldo doesn't need to be a "supersub" but I personally feel he needs and deserves a lesser role in the national team like what Argentina does for messi. They're still the most important players on their teams, but they're old enough for the younger players to "carry" them to victories and/or possibly titles. That's one of the only ways I see them being successful and maintaining their longevity for their national teams.

Compare Neymar with brazilian attacker and offensive midfielders. All these players have achieved more than Neymar and should be considered better than him : Pele, Garrincha, Jairzinho, Rivellino, Zico, Socrates, Romario, Ronaldo Nazario, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo. I believe Neymar have surpassed the likes of Careca, Zizinho, Leonidas and Adriano. Neymar is definitely not amongst top 10 Brazilian offensive footballers of all time.

He manages to finish Top 3 in Balon dOr two times (in 2015 and 2017). Did great in Barcelona. But I agree he has not managed to win Balon dOr so far, not won a UCL with a team where he is the talisman and not led Brazil to any trophy like WC or Copa. These things have weakened the case of Neymar. But if he wins the World Cup and performs extraordinarily, then Neymar will be remembered.

I don't really understand yet why teams or National teams put all their eggs in one basket. Ronaldo, like messi in Argentina are getting really old. Coaches must prepare a team with a view to the future and give their stars, a less starring role. To train the new generations and show them a team or National team is over any player, even messi or Ronaldo. Apart from that, they get ready for possible problems. Maybe one player cannot be in a match, so his substitute is ready to replace him. And what I see here in Arg. is that some players (leaded by messi and Agüero) have set the rules for many years. However, when scaloni took the team, the situation was different. The coach has made almost the decisions and success can be seen not only in the results, but also in the team performance. That's the importance is giving the power to the coach and manager, and not to the players. So, going back to the idea, players are not always necessary for the team, sometimes they must go to the bench and give the chance to another player. They are humans and need a rest. After all, it's a job and they need it to come back stronger. So you prepare another player to be the protagonist, and not just a shadow.

LOL why just because of age? Ronaldo on his prime was scoring 50 goals/season and could win games on his own most of the times. Since his prime was so high even if he drops 50% level.
