The short answer is no. The only way they can reboot is if they: 1. Give a definitive and detailed timeline up to in-universe present day. 2. All of the writers actually follow rule #1, as established above. But let’s be honest with ourselves; that’s never going to happen.

I think the biggest issue is the overwhelming problems of multiple titles, all at once, talking about different timeframes, and the continuity issues that creates. Even if there're stories that are continuous, it can just become overwhelming and you'll miss something. So, I think maybe a limit on publishing, and then have enough oversight to put writers on a same page that works toward a goal. 1. Come up with an overarching plan for all of DC and how that reaches a crisis. 2. Limit the amount of issues coming out. Not titles, but issues. This way, the reader isn't overwhelmed with what they need. 3. Do the Spider-Man thing, but for main DC characters; but instead of decades, the major events that make up the development of the character. This is just to set what major harmonized events add up. 4. Going forward, release the titles in chronological order, building toward the major event. 5. Combine the titles into individual omnibuses for the graphic novel release. A Bat-Family book, a Super-Family book, a Justice League book, etc., made up of the issues per family in chronological order. 6. Each "family" gets a set number of omnibuses, like 5-7. 7. The limited omnibuses build to a singular event, also later released in one omnibus. This limits and organizes singular issues into a digestible collection without overwhelming, it can go for years, and puts everyone on the same page. The omnibus books would be so the book collector can get all the stories in digestible chunks so you can see how it all fits together.

It also feels like runs go for too long and even if you're enjoying a particular story of a particular character (I'm thinking of Nightwing, Red Hood and Batgirl), they suddently change writers and... everything changes mid-run? Their personalities are different, their growth goes missing, the lessons are unlearnt. It's so frustrating.

honestly something I've thought of for a very long time is what if dc rebooted every 5 years or so. this means we can have some real stakes and characters can get axed off, and stay dead for a little while. along side some very experimental titles since if no one likes the story just cancel it and 5 years later we'll try something different. think of all the stuff you could do, we could have a world without Superman, have a parallel earth story where all the heroes are villains and vice versa, sure we've gotten these story lines before, but only for a limited runs before we go back to the main story. this also means writers aren't bound by decades worth of continuity and could do almost anything they wanted. I'm sure there are allot of ideas with this idea and I know it, but the idea of getting a 5 year long what if story sounds fantastic.

Continually rebooting their books takes away any sense of history and continuity. Getting in at the start of something is great but most of DC's history is so well known that the reboots lose any draw- they'd be better off just focusing on telling good stories in a well defined universe, which by now they should have. if not then maybe the bigger question is should DC continue to publish comic books at all (comic BOOKS- I'd expect them to keep making movies, TV shows, whatever)?

Good discussion video!👍🏿 I like most of the ideas you guys were throwing out there and the examples you used to explain like referencing Pokemon, Metal Gear Solid, and Supernatural. I think both Andy and Dan’s ideas for rebooting DC are good. Between the two of them, I think Dan’s idea is better since it would give whoever is writing and drawing for whatever superhero more free to do whatever they want with their selected hero without worrying from the other writers and artists working on their selected her superhero. Andy’s idea seems more like both the JJ Abrams’s “Mystery Box” storytelling style which is a hit and miss and how TV shows are develop in which you have to pitch what’s going to happen in the show’s season 1, 2, 3, etc. When DC reboots again which it will, I think they need to make new superheroes and fully commit into making great characters with incredible storytelling and market the hell out of them just like they do with the Trinity.

I know that in Archie Sonic series is another example of something that went off of too long. The first 13 volumes had a clear goal of stopping Robotnik and freeing mobius, it started off really fun and campy then got more in depth and had really cool twists and turns and then once that story was done and had a satisfying conclusion, they kept going and it got convoluted real quick. The IDW reboot was the best thing that ever happened and what made it work even more was it used the game continuity and streamlined it so it was very accessible and they didn’t have to go back and explain everything again

We know that in the future, there will be Batman Beyond and Legions of Super-Heroes so we should PUSH the story TO that timeline instead of staying where we are.

What I think would be helpful is if you’re going to allude to something that’s happened in previous issues for let’s say Batman, have a footnote that says something like “check out issue (whatever) that you can find in such and such trade” and I know it’s a bit more effort, but I think it’ll help newer readers get into that stuff. I’ve seen comics do that before, but I don’t see it as often as I’d like. That way if you’re digging a story, but not entirely sure about some of the stuff being referenced, if you’re interested you can check that out, and then you’ll end up like me and read comics like a junky snorts cocaine.

In actuality they couldnt remember ten years of their lives so its more like they started 10 to 15 years before but forgot alot of their experiences and thought they were only 5 years in to their roles. 5 years is too short, especially for the inclusion of side kicks. I agree that it needs to have a hard reboot to start over but what needs to happen is start putting them into a real-time history which will actually age batman and flash, etc And you then need the side kicks to come jn and grow and eventually really replace their mentors. Then once you age up the sidekicks we know you create new sidekicks or then reboot again. You don't have to go 1 year of comics be one year of real life maybe its 2 or 3 years per 1 year of comics and the universe runs 10 to 20 years and then reboot to tell new stories.

Rebirth was going fine with Manhattan mystery. But DC dropped that as a main plotline after sudden popularity of Batman Who Laughs and Syders obsession with Legion of Doom and cookie cut Villans. In my opinon Young Justice show is the blueprint which DC should follow.

I think some kind of reboot is happening already( I'm writing this just reading the title as a question didn't listen to all the video) , I mean since rebirth, then after Metal and now after all that happened in many storylines with the altered timeline being discovered , Dr Manhattan then Death Metal we will have a kind of reboot ..a lot different from new 52 for sure , reality is definetly changing a lot , since Rebirth imo

I got a good one: should flash(barry allen) or Green Lantern( Hal Jordan) take batman's place in the trinity because batman is given too much limelight and by taking out of the trinity with another popular character it would make it at least seem like DC is trying not to use batman for everything. Of course this would screw up what each character of the trinity stands for. superman being for the metas, Wonder woman for the magical beings, and batman for the vigilantes, so if someone can figure out what the trinity would now stand instead would it be a good idea?

One word: yes. But not to that DC 5G stuff that we were told about. Just back to that pre new 52 stuff. There was some direction. Side note: can we get Scott Snyder and Tom Taylor to write that comic? It just makes sense. I mean, come on now!

I will say this about the New 52: I liked the fact that Blackfire and Starfire got along, at least, Arsenal did not get to relive his traumatic nightmare of losing Lian and Cheshire & Nightwing was a badass spy. (I should clarify: so far, I am still reading issue #20 of RHATO and I haven't read through every DC character in the New 52)

@@TevyaSmolka They need a writer to write good superman story. No gimmicks. Plus I'm tired of him fighting against monsters from space or anything too science fiction. After I read Superman vs. Klan (2020) or some of the golden/silver age, I realized that Superman needs a writer who can write a Superman without any gimmicks ( like having a son or another stupid event like Doomsday). I do prefer superman's powers to go back his original powers of they can't write op superman. Fresh new stories. Use the golden/ silver age as inspiration. Be faithful to the creator's creation. 52 and rebirth both suck. The sells can prove it.

I think it'd be ok to leave an ending open. That way others can make their own continuity with your story as a universal settings. Like how Avengers Assemble is a loss sequel to Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

I'd usually say hell no but it all depends HOW they reboot. If they did it the 5G way I'd denounce DC for the rest of my life. If they got good writers and artist who have experience writing or drawing professionally if be more inclined to say yes but I have no faith in DC anymore.

With the five year plan thing i would be ok with a few one shots looking into each one 5 years later. so we do first 5 year run. it ends and we dont get anything for 5 years while new verse is ongoing. once second verse ends we can do a 4 issue mini series that looks into the world. boom repeat every 5 years.

In my opinion, no they have enough reboots already. I just want the dc universe to finish fixing up some of the characters development and growth and bring back the more important storylines and runs of our favorite superheroes and hopefully bring back characters that were killed off like Roy Harper and Gnarrk and characters that have been retcon out of existence or killed since Flashpoint like Liam Harper, Conner Hawke, and Secret.

Hard reboot? No; restructuring on the level of introducing the multiverse? Definitely.

Their idea is exactly what Young Justice cartoon is doing. Each season is separated by a time skip and there is an overall continuing storyline but we don't get caught up on everything that happened during the time skip.

I havent even watched the video yet, but I say no it does not need a reboot. I think it needs to do somethings it hasnt done before. I mean how cool would it be if batman died and we had to see damien take up the mantle of batman, and see how he handles thd joker, gordon and everyone else, you kinda see it in DCeased, but its way different, most people are dead, and they skip ahead pretty quick. Id rather they made some cool changes instead of a reboot just to bring everything back to status quo. And if it doesnt work out then reboot, its a comic, but comics have to do some crazy things every now then otherwise its pretty much the same people doing pretty much the same thing. So no, no reboot, crazy stuff instead, THEN reboot, OR end with something freaking epic like the DCAU did with Justice League Dark Apocalypse, that would be awesome too.

Death Metal is literally going to be the end game of all reboots if you all havent been following. It will set the path for DC and its future by fixing all the continuity errors from previous crisis's. So after death metal no more reboots. Just focus on single shot character stories and thats it. I feel like from then on they should establish one universe where everything has a timeline and and following continuity, and another where its just elseworlds stories that are seperate and do not follow the timeline to avoid confusion.
@maxvelazquez18164 жыл бұрын
No instead we should forcus on a earth form the multiverse like earth 66 or in the dark multiverse to give a storyline in the sense to fix the dark multiverse or to a event to make a interesting in the sense of hope in a world that meant to die.
