You guys are elite anglers. You have the skills, knowledge, and experience/expertise. I'd rather see you guys pitting all of that against each other to win a tourney. Anyone can look at a screen and find a fish. It takes no skill. I used it for the first time on a buddys boat recently. Put all of that knowledge and experience to the real test and out perform that guy that's fishing next to you. That's a sport that takes real skill. I'd rather hear you guys mic'd up, listening to the thought process out loud, hearing you guys read the water and weather. Maybe even spontaneously creating a new way of rigging a lure right then and there because you just can't get them to bite on the old stuff!! Now that would be exciting to watch. I think you guys are forgetting the importance of viewership. If the viewers go bye bye so does that prize money!! Yeah you guys might get money from sponsors and companies but if those ads and viewers go, booooy that money is going to dry up quicker than that fishin hole!! The only thing you'll be fishing is that fish patty out of the hot grease at McDonald's!! Try to feed your family on that mess!! You guys were put on tv for a reason!! Don't slit your own throats!

Some of the issues with ffs are the same reasons why trolling wasn’t allowed in tournaments the beginning. We knew those fish were there before no matter what people say. We targeted them by trolling for them when just fun fishing when I was barely big enough to hold a pole. Anyway, First, nobody likes to see guys starring at screens anymore than they wanted to see guys slowly driving around out there. Split screens help but it’s not the answer. Another reason it wasn’t allowed was it was a nightmare logistically for those draw tournaments back in the day too. Now we’re seeing pros being paired with pros on the tours that have them because co anglers are not signing up. I love the fact that I can target a barely tapped population of fish, and I actually catch myself happy when I pull some of the school off a ledge now because I can spot and catch them out there in the abyss… but… I do have mixed feelings about ffs. Even if conservation doesn’t become a major problem, which is yet to be seen, it is pressuring fish in the only sanctuary left for them. That will have a impact on fisheries. . And I can’t lie, I took my 9yo just to teach him to throw a baitcaster and he won the little derby we entered by himself. I just picked out backlashes, scanned and told him where to try and cast. Sometimes he came close. Lol but it was enough. He beat some local sticks too. That made me really feel uneasy. I had to be excited for him, but in my gut I just felt like this isn’t right. Not everyone had it, but still.

@ikashibimauler9 ай бұрын
Saying its not going away doesnt make sense. Its all about will. Why doesn't MLB use aluminum bats? Why are F1 cars limited in engine size? Why can't PGA golfers use a range finder? Why can't bass pros troll, or use 20 foot poles while bed fishing?

@thomaswinslow16249 ай бұрын
I went and read that article after reading your comment. I agree it’s not going anywhere, but my main issue is at the end of that article, he says “it’s something I want and NEED in my boat”. the fact that pros are now saying they “need” it, kind of proves that it’s a crutch. I also think a lot of people’s issues with it (myself included) is the price tag. It’s not in many people’s budget, and there a may be a slight jealousy factor at play
@billljones9799 ай бұрын
@thomaswinslow1624 all true, Def a tough topic, I'm with you if it was in a better price range , Also I'm not speaking for Edwin but I took that need. Fine for weekend warriors. Fine for Pros on practice day. Should be banned on tournament day for the pros. Been my take from go and I don’t see anything that has changed my opinion on it.
@stevenmunsey90819 ай бұрын
I do think it should and will eventually be banned. 2 reasons. First as you have mentioned it makes for terrible TV. The split screen feature is not going to change that. At some point the tournament organizations will be forced to face lower viewership numbers. Secondly, FFS techniques feature using plastic baits and jigheads with an occasional jerkbait mixed in. Soon the bait companies are going to come to the realization that FFS fishermen buy fewer bait varieties. Those sponsorship dollars might just start to dry up. The electronic companies will not be able to pick up that slack. Hopefully that might help force the issue

I don't have a boat so Sonar doesn't really bother me lol, but i've seen guys in tourneys that i watch actually lose possibly because of it because Forward Facing Sonar told them the fish are right here and they would just sit on a spot that had a big one or a wad of fish on it for hours but they couldn't get them to bite, if you didn't have the Sonar you wouldn't even know they were there and have moved on way sooner like after 30mins you'd be like they must not be here time to move lol. So imo it's a double edged sword. I think the Elites last year had a tourney down south and live feed showed a pro sitting on a bridge spot that had a big one for 2hrs plus and he never did get him to bite which also made for a very boring live feed of a guy just looking at a screen for 2hrs lol. Also it's not a Creek Series unless Mark Jr. is neck deep in the water at somepoint in the video lol.

The split screen is a 15 to 20% improvement, and definitely better than not having it. However, the majority of folks aren’t going to know what they’re looking at…and the image quality by the time it crosses over to the viewer is still pretty poor. But even though it’s better than nothing, as the technology advances, it will eventually be identical to watching someone play a fishing game on a N64. 😕 Another thing that no one seems to want to talk about is the fact that it makes different tournament locations almost pointless…minus small changes in scenery. Keep 2D, DI and SI… Let the FFS go. As cheesy as it sounds, it takes away the mystique that was often associated with great fisherman/anglers.

I don't think the issue with FFS has anything to do with bass competitions. If anything it lets the average person know there are fish in the lake and they can be caught.. A big note is that all pro's "catch and release" so why would it matter in that sense.. I don't think it does. Where FFS becomes an issue would be the "Catch and Eat" When you can target big pre-spawn female crappie that can produce 3k-100k of eggs each year and you take out 12 of those in 1 day.. you just removed millions of eggs for the potential following season. that's 1 person catching a limit.. now change those numbers to every person who can afford the unit and targets those species. you can wreck a whole lake in 1 year. So let me approach another way. As a pro if you did your practice and then competition and every fish you caught of legal length you killed(took out of the lake, ate, what ever) . now every pro did the same... how good would the lakes be in 1 year. that 7,8,9 lb bass you needed to catch in the competition was already caught and removed. in 1-2 years the only thing left in the lake would be dinks because you used FFS to target the larger producing fish to win and they were removed from the lake... the DNR knows FFS is here to stay so they are already trying to stop the depletion from happening by increasing size requirements and decreasing bag limits. so for catch and release.. show me those fish are there, how an average person can target and catch a monster and snap a few pics and let go..No body spends thousands each year on hunting equipment and only loads there guns with tranquilizers just to snap a few pics.
@willbutler26399 ай бұрын
See my problem with it is something like yours. My problem is this will effect the fish population because those fish that went out deep were way harder to find and catch. Thus the big females were safe and could live their life without having a spotlight shined on them so they stick out like a sore thumb. This is the same as spotlighting deer. It takes no skill and is immoral

Here’s my stance on ffs. And I know my stance don’t amount to crap. I understand that a pro has two choices. Either get good at it, or get the wheels beat off of you. But a sport has to have interested fans to survive. And I’m the fan that is a hardcore live watcher that will watch episodes multiple times and study every move the big boys make. With intense detail!! Like would get fired from my job if they really knew how much time I spent watching live. And in the past two years….i watch about 20 minutes and turn it off. So I now watch y’all’s vlogs, and old episodes off bass and MLF. Fans want to see you guys break it down. I say ban practice for good. And break the season up. Ban ffs for half. Then make it legal for the northern stuff where the screen staring is going to happen anyway. Hit ‘em’ hard this week brother. I’ll be in Arkansas pulling for you. A win is on the horizon. You’re too good for it not to be. Trust you guy and fish like you know how.
