yeah, find an old wool blanket. carpet sounds like a good idea furry side down. Mostly it's to keep moisture in. Cuz you know they dry out, they're done.

For an outdoor worm bin, leaves hands down. I introduce worms into my large leaf mold bin every fall, even during the coldest winters here in WI the center of the bin stays in the mid 40'sF. I thought about using a scrap of carpet to cover my indoor bins a few years ago, decided against it, that is when I started using bubble wrap. Have a good day AJ, Stay Well!!!!

I happily use carpet. However mine is 100% wool based Carpet and this completes a natural cycle of material usage instead of dumping in landfill, it is also from Natural dyes manufactured here in UK. I agree you should never use synthetic carpet and would agree with your suggestions. BTW my carpet lasts about 10 years before it starts falling apart too much then it goes as a mulch along a Hedgeline between the border and Polytunnel so keeps on giving to me. Edit. I even bought my current 100% natural carpet 21 years ago with this in mind

My worms won't eat my synthetic socks so I don't think they are gonna eat the synthetic fibers that will fall from the carpet into the bin...Just my opinion...But another thing you could do is move down here to Florida where we don't need worm blankets to keep us warm!!🪱🪱🪱
