Hi Josh, Good video as usual 👍. Something that seems to get missed from these "should I become a driving instructor" video's on KZbin, is wanting to improve road safety! Flexible hours, own boss, job satisfaction. They are all great reasons for becoming an ADI. However, in my opinion, improving road safety should really be one of the main factors. Did you find this was one of your reasons for becoming an ADI? On the subject of road safety. Do you worry about your pupils watching your videos of you driving with one hand on the gear stick whilst steering with your wrist and then following this technique when driving? 🤭

@@Tommy_67 Hey Tommy, some great questions here. As i mention throughout my videos I became a driving instructor because I enjoy the education factor which you seemed to forget to mention above. As you say this I would have thought covers the road safety aspect. The 2nd question about 1 hand on the wheel is a common one all driving instructors get that are on KZbin. I guess the best answer for this is having a lot of experience driving and talking all day every day has helped me be able to focus and keep the car secure even when driving one handed although I do not recommended this to anyone else.

@@JoshRamwell Hi Josh, My comment on your video was not intended to troll you, if it came across this way, I do apologise. You are correct, you do mention education as a factor. I was trying to highlight the fact that many people walk into the industry not really considering the improvement of road safety. Look at all the adverts for instructor training, "earn £36000 a year", "be your own boss" etc. They don't say "want to raise the standards for road safety? Become a driving instructor". Just my opinion 👍 Your excuse for driving with one hand on the gear stick whilst steering with your wrist is not one I agree with. I can imagine it comes up a lot with instructors on KZbin, and the one's I've seen, their standard of driving is very poor!

@@Tommy_67 Hey Tommy, no that's perfectly fair and you make some great points. Just thought I best make it clear in case someone else misinterprets them. You are absolutely right. though there is a HUGE focus on earnings and very little on the the other important factors. I even know a few which is a shame and generally leads them to not make it through the training process. Thanks for highlighting this. I hope i didn't come across shirty :)

Great video Josh. If you don’t mind me asking what do you recommend regarding a car for tuition. Your own car or rent one? What is the rough costs. If you use your own car is the insurance expensive etc.

Hi Josh. It's true that you always remember the instructor! I have two categories and I have always changed instructor once. In my experience there are two types of instructors. 1) wrong type for me - they lecture everything with a serious face like a minesweeper and physics lecturer / head of the sect 🤣 2) Helpful with advice but without exaggeration and with some distance hello ultimately it's just driving a vehicle, thus giving a positive impact on learning. I think you're type 2. I'm thinking about becoming an instructor...but if my introverted nature won't be a big obstacle...I'm not as cool a talker as you are 😎

Liked the video. I currently work for Royal Mail as a postie and im sure you're aware of what is going on there with the strikes and job security. Im coming up 50 next month and being fairly unskilled my options are becoming limited. My current wage is around £20k and im getting sick of working for bullying bosses. Like you I want to be in control of my life and would be happy to earn (after expenses) something around £25-30k eventually on around 35hrs teaching time? . Is this achievable without doing all hours god sends? I do realise I wouldnt start off with this type of money.
@JoshRamwell Жыл бұрын
Hey Meverley sorry to hear you are having a tough time. yes that's easily achievable. Based on around 25 per hour after expenses X 30 hours a week, should bring around 36k per year if you worked every week of the year.

I sent my criminal record check away and got it back. It's fine, but when I log into my portal to register it still hasn't updated. I have no idea how to update it.

There are other PDI'S having the same issue. I believe it's due to the backlog, it should get updated in time. You could email or phone them to check this.

I have emailed them with no reply. I did think it would take time because of the back log.

@@ThomasKempton I received a reply back. They said it’s usually 60 days (or up to 8 weeks) but they are experiencing back logs. I’m stuck on stage 4 police records check. Apparently this is the stage which is taking the longest due to back logs due to the virus. Cheers

Definitely NOT. I’m a PDI with RED - their Franchise Fees are extortionate (over £250 a week + new pupil fees on too ). AVOID AT ALL COSTS
