Should I Buy a Ferrari 812 Superfast?

Let's talk about the Ferrari 812 Superfast; is this the car that's going to scratch my V12 itch? After last driving Ferrari's super-GT almost 2 years ago, it's in a shortlist alongside the GTC4Lusso or Aston Martin's DBS. Turns out, it's just as fantastic as I remembered...
During a track day held at Silverstone by Topaz Detailing for their clients, I took a better look at this 812 to get a feel for whether it could be the one. A V12 engine is a notable absence from my garage and car collection after selling my former Vanquish Volanted and Ferrari FF. These are engines that won't last forever and we're in a great period of performance and experience before regulations make these kind of things impossible in future.
The 812 Superfast as the name suggests has an 800hp V12 and goes super fast. It's a 2-seat grand-tourer with a front-mid engine that both sounds incredible and drives phenomenally well. When I first drove an 812 I was hugely impressed and in the time since I wondered if I would feel the same way on the second outing - and it turns out I do.
In the Ferrari line-up the 812superfast sits alongside a GTC4Lusso that would be the natural progression from my FF; offering a lot of the performance of the 812 with even more usability with the rear seats and extra luggage space - while sharing a similar naturally aspirated V12 albeit 100hp down. The Lusso also has the notable benefit of having been on the market slightly longer and therefore some cars are available at a lower price point following early depreciation.

I disagree on the basis that I have driven both for a month each including on track and in the end; somewhat to my surprise, it was the GTC4 Lusso all the way! The “performance” factor is marginal and you live outside my home country Germany, you will never, ever be able to test anyway!

Baloo Bagheera Thats what I’m saying! Between the two, the 812 Superfast is obviously the more stunning car, definitely a bit quicker, and more insane. But the V12 GTC4Lusso offers you seating for four, a practical loot, oh and 680 hp which is still absolutely nuts. The 812 has better resale value but offers one to two dimensional driving. While the Lusso offers you a ton (snow, rain, track, weekend, general).

You need a v12 Ferrari. Left hand drive 812 or Lusso (812 is better investment than Lusso btw) with full carbon interior spec and bring the car to a road trip across west coast of Spain, then to the south passing through Marbella, Barcelona and finish in Monaco for Top Marque weekend 😂👍

I'm a big Aston fan too, but between these contenders I honestly think the V12 Ferrari is the better choice in your line-up. The Aston is a better cruiser, but since you're looking for a proper V12...Ferrari without a single doubt. The GT4 Lusso is surely more practical (despite its length...), but it's nowhere near as sexy as the 812. Do you really need those 2 additional seats? I don't think so. I think this car just needs to be a V12 tribute. Let the "practical car" be another one entirely.

@@chiefdenis Pagani's engine IS the Mercedes engine. It's a turbo and it makes no sound compared to the 812 (obviously i'm exagerating, but not too much...). It's also got an entirely different pricetag. Mercedes itself mounts its v12 on saloon cars... Not an option. Lambo's v12 is a good one. The sound is very well tuned too. But i think that's the least practical car you can imagine. Ok, practicality comes second, but that's not even remotely a Grand Tourer.

@@jorehir im actually very aware of the amg engines in paganis since inception, i just wanted to mention the brands individually. The m120 v12 with equal length headers in the zondas is hands down the best sounding v12 I've ever heard in my entire life, the 812 superfast and la ferrari v12 is a close second. The sound track was tuned differently in the huayra to mimic the soundtrack of an air plane in order to complement the heavily aviation inspired cockpit and control surfaces. While the zonda sounds absolutely mental, the sound of the huayra has a particular charm to it

The thing with the 812 is it might be the last Ferrari v12 which is naturally aspirated. I don’t think it will depreciate all that much. Maybe I am wrong, I don’t think so.

Both the 812 and the Lusso look amazing. But IMO, 812's FR layout and 9000 rpm redline (Lusso "only" has 8000) make the 812 a tad more special and organic... It's all up to you at the end of the day, hehe

Tim, the 812 Superfast is a beautiful machine and Nabile (sp) has a beautiful car there, but I really think the GTC4lusso is what will fit best. You have several 2 seaters and nothing with 4 seats until the G63 gets here. The GTC4lusso will give you 4 seats and a V12, not to mention a perfect vehicle for all those funny situations where you just need more room on a trip! I would love either car but think the Lusso will fit the collection better and years from now it very well might be worth a little bit more because it is just the quirky kind of different that someone will be looking for in their collection.
