It's not a good thing. It feels artificial and it basically seems like the car can't change gears. Here's a secret. Many TdF owners have had a TCU update done that makes the car much better in this regard. A big issue is that it actually upsets the car tremendously and brings it out of balance.
@JayRicci7891

I love both, but honestly I would happily pay the extra 500,000 quid for an F12 TDF. It just looks and sounds like a proper, outrageous, lunatic of a car. Ferrari at their absolute best.
@JayRicci7891
@JayRicci7891 5 жыл бұрын
@aaron names Limited edition V12 Ferrari's are often the most desirable. Plus a lot of people who were lucky enough to get TDF's originally dont put too many miles on them, knowing a low miliage car will be highly sought after. Kind of annoying considering these things are built to be driven. Ferrari really need to pick their clients better to stop this shit from happening.
@adodoes8770
@adodoes8770 5 жыл бұрын
@aaron names not only do nearly all rare cars gain in value (especially limited edition ferraris), but i think that you had to own like 5 other ferraris to even be able to buy the tdf, meaning only a couple of people could actually buy it, only after that you add the 450k, which is the price of the car i think it was something like this maybe a car more or less, feel free to correct me if im wrong

@Ranin Zadviylet They have free maintenence for the first 7 years so that's a non-factor. They should make more examples of their LE cars though which would probably encourage more people to drive them and not just store them in a garage to make money on them.

Looking at the prices there so many at 1,5 nowadays. Crazy what a profit James can make with his.
@Speednote10
@Speednote10 5 жыл бұрын
@@SS-bk2zb Where are you seeing those prices? I just did a quick search and 16 out of the 17 tdf's I could find for sale in Europe have asking prices between €800k-1mil, and that includes a couple of RHD cars. The prices have come down in 2019 and as James has a very "standard" spec I doubt he would make any profit at all if he sold his car today.

Can I ask you a Question, I Just received a New issue of Car and Driver while looking through it I came across a Photo of the 2022 Ferrari Purosangue their SUV. What's your thoughts on it should Ferrari have an SUV or should they stick with GT's, Supercars, Hypercars? The article say's it won't have a V12 most likely have a V8 with Hybrid assistance.

I don't like to correct people but I thought you may be interested as I also used to make this mistake. Compression ratio doesn't affect engine braking as a higher compression ratio would also mean higher expansion when the piston is on the way down, so they balance each other out. For example diesels can have crazy high compression ratios without a lot of engine braking. Engine braking is cause by pumping loses, as the piston goes down it creates a vacuum between the piston head and the closed throttle body which causes the engine braking. Diesel engines don't have throttle bodies so engineers have to overcome this challenge, one method is the Jake Brake.

Very interesting comparison between the TDF and the Superfast James. One thing I don't understand though is why the tach was showing 4k or less when you were pushing the car to the 9k redline. Did you have to edit that in rather than capture it at the same time?
@yamenaly3219

I think the TDF has softer suspension because it is lighter in weight so the suspension doesn't have to keep as much weight lifted (if that makes any sense)
@shaunlee189
@shaunlee189 5 жыл бұрын
Reducing weight without adjusting the springs effectively increases the spring rate. So it should be the opposite.
@yamenaly3219
@yamenaly3219 5 жыл бұрын
Shaun Lee I thought that the lighter the car the higher the spring rates put by the manufacturers to make it roll less ?
@shaunlee189
@shaunlee189 5 жыл бұрын
@@yamenaly3219 Let's say that the springs are constant in this situation. When a car is lighter, there's less weight transfer and the same suspension will react less which means less roll. When a car is heavier, there's more weight transferring around when accelerating, braking, cornering, etc. The same springs will have a greater reaction to those forces, leading to more body roll/pitch/dive. So to compensate for the heavier weight, manufacturers would increase the spring rates to cope. In this case, my guess is that Ferrari may have "overcompensated" the spring rates in the 812.

A famous Ferrari owner in the Netherlands who put 80.000 km on his TDF says the 812 is a much better car once you get above 300 km/h. The TDF becomes very light on its feet at high speeds and the underbody aero on the 812 is just more advanced. His name is Thijs Timmermans.

Thanks for the amazing video here J, this felt much shorter than 20 minutes because I was so enthralled all the way through. P.S. I see a lot of people commenting on the 3k rpm footage while J was giving an example of the high revs of the tdf. My opinions on this (copied from a reply I left) are simple. He didn't have a go pro camera on hand while he did that huge pull. You may notice he randomly does pulls according to how clear the road is of other vehicles etc. That spontaneous opportunity grab on public roads would get in the way of any basic filming plan he might've had. I agree it is jarring and he didn't need to edit in a speedometer "Just Cuz" revvss, but I don't believe he's trying to sell anyone anything here. I'm sure the majority of his viewers can't afford anything near a Ferrari and thus he "carries us along the journey" (as he always says) for the sake of giving us a peek into a life dissimilar to ours.
