I worked with a vendor for decades. Hauled supplies to trade shows and swap meets and the open markets. That's all history now.. The Food Truck like U say has registration , maint, engine, repair of drive train The trailer wins. U tow it all it has is brakes and axles. U can even get it ready while it's rolling with someone in the back if U R on local roads and streets. PLUS, when The board of health inspects it the vehicle that tows it is now part of the inspection. It depends on where U R setting the thing. Most places a trailer is ok to set and keep the truck near. There's a plus and minus for any kind of situation that is in the food service business. AND if U have a trailer with a crew and it's bizzy or U need something the Truck can go get it if U R working locally. With a food truck U will find that U have 2 bring a car or another truck along so U can do this - THAT means 2 vehicles 2 gas tanks 2 trucks getting wear and tear. Trailer is better it seems especially in today's upside down leftists takin over the world.. Look at the Carnie's - all their stuff is trailers. Food, Rides, Midway stands. etc. They been at it since it was oxen and mules pullin 200 yr ago.

In my life I owned quite a few restaurants , it will be wise to mentioned fuel expenses on a food truck are horrible , also try to keep your menu small and simply , remember quality before quantity . I am more inclined to DYI my own food trailer , a 6 x 12 will do for my operation . Thank you for the input .

Food trailer... you need a truck to pull it. So now you have two items to put plates, state inspection and insurance on. Now if you already own a F-250 or a RAM 2500 then that's okay (I'm in Texas, most have pickups anyway) and even then you have to maintain the trailer. Brakes, tires, bearings, hubs and operational lights. But hey there's no One Size Fits All, what's good for this crew in this region might be 180° out two states over. Good video and information Sir.

I say food truck. For me, bc as a female I don't have to hook and unhook it It's easier to park and drive U don't have to worry about ppl stealing ur trailer by unhooked it when u park it. It's got a/c in it while your working in the heat
@johnstrickland39332 жыл бұрын
I've seen alot of people run the trailers an never unhook from tow vehicle. Now that might be just in my area but I have seen it they just never disconnect. Truck right there in front of trailer. But I get what ur saying I'm just saying u don't nescarily have to disconnect at all.

I chose the truck because like you said its easier to set up. I do the warehouse district and I'm on the move alot. The trailer would add alot of extra work in my opinion and the truck is more efficient. Plus it's just me working on the truck most of the time.

I've seen alot with trailers never actually unhook from tow vehicle. They stay connected to it they have the tongue jack down but they just don't disconnect. Now if they have to they can. Now yeah backing a trailer in busy area with alot of people around I can see that being a headache.

Biggest selling point for me is a trailer doesn’t break down. If your towing truck breaks down you can rent one and you won’t lose sales for that day. There are pros and cons for both but I’m going with a trailer for my start up. I’ve been cooking professionally for 15 years. Time to do my own thing.

Anyone who asks this question is asking a loaded question. First question is what will the person be selling. Next, how do they intend to vend. Mobile lunch sites,events, or semi permanent location. Only when you know these things should one then ask trailer or truck. I decided some time ago that I will go with a trailer. It will rent some parking lot spaces each week for a few days in a parking lot of a retail outlet space. But that's for my business. A foodtruck totally makes sense if you're always on the move. Folks get to hung up about their equipment before really thinking about how they intend to operate their business, big mistake. Have a great day. 😃👍

@thickymcghee76812 жыл бұрын
One thing I would disagree with is the cost of the trailer being half of the truck. You will always need a vehicle (most likely a truck) if you buy a trailer. However with a Food truck, you don't need another vehicle, so the cost balances out in my opinion.
@charging73 жыл бұрын
You can't overemphasize the problem of when, not if, your truck breaks down; from the perspective of getting the truck worked on, it's a lot more money than you're thinking it is! Medium duty vehicles like the platforms these trucks are built from require a heavy duty shop space, not a regular car sized shop so even finding somebody who can and will work on them can be a challenge. Take the most expensive idea you've got for a repair and double or triple it!

I would think best is a shorter trailer with a super short 5th truck so you don't have to detach it. I know they don't make such truck so it would be a custom built truck, but if you had to you could borrow/rent a regular fifth wheel truck if yours broke down.

If you've ever had to pay for mechanical repairs on a commercial vehicle, you would go with a trailer that can be pulled by a regular ass pickup. I mean unless you are doing big numbers. If you're above the million dollar range, you can afford repairs. If you're new to the game, trailer ftw

I once met a guy who had to have his food truck towed to an event. $500 Cost to tow. but he made out well that day he had to leave his truck there for the night because he couldn't get a tow back to Philadelphia the event ended late. Flash forward he offered to sell me a food truck right before covid for 35k. Fully equipped. I decided on a trailer because I can't afford $500 towing. But a rented truck or a neighbor or friend with a tow hitch wouldn't cost a quarter of that expense. He still had to pay for repairs and tow back to Philadelphia. You can rent a truck at Lowe's, Home depot, etc. I own a 7x14ft and have everything in it I need. Deep fryer griddle commercial fridge and commercial freezer veggie chiller, crockpots, and microwave. And up to five adults can fit and work comfortably.
