Andrew sits down for a running podcast with his coach Hernan Rozemberg as they prepare for the Austin 3M Half Marathon. This is the second episode in a three part series called BREAKING 1:25:00. Episode 1 was "running inspiration." Episode 2 is a podcast with his coach. Episode 3 will be the actual race and race recap.
In this podcast, Hernan answers running questions about how he writes and communicates weekly training plans, his philosophy on progressive runs and if getting a running coach is right for you.
He also answers a few not so serious running questions because Andrew is not so serious of a runner, not to be confused with a Serious Runner.

My beginner mistake on my first half marathon was not training enough. Hit the wall at 11 miles and finished at 2:05. That was last May. This April I am shooting for a 1:40 to 1:45. At 56 years old last year was my first full year of running.

That’s awesome. I did the same thing on my first HM time trial around my neighborhood (COVID had races shut down). The last two miles were a minute and fifteen seconds slower than what my pace started at

What a great idea to interview your coach! Good question, and some fun, creative ones. You and I have some things in common-having started running late and then discovering we have aptitude for it, but also finding great coaches who believe in us to help us take it to higher levels. Our coaches seem to have a lot in common as well.

That’s awesome. I think I remember in KRC you ran Boston last year too, right? How is the experience? Seems like an expensive trip, hoping to go 2025 even if I qualify this spring for 2024 ($$$ purposes )

@@MidLifeRunner I’ve run it twice: 1st time was the October ‘21 come-back race with the reduced field and rolling start. I now realize how special that was! And yes, again last April. It seems to be the gift that keeps giving (so far at least). I can’t compare the experience to other marathons since the only other marathon I ran was my 1st one which qualified me: Tunnel Marathon in WA. I’ll say this about Boston-the entire weekend is like a giant street party. The whole city embraces the marathon and makes you feel like a celebrity just for being there. Spectators and volunteers are amazing. The hotels are indeed expensive. We use Marriott points for the priciest nights to make it affordable. Hope I meet you before 2025 but it would be fun to meet there, too!
