To all the people saying “let the cat outside” and stuff, I say: Bengal cats, as you know, are hybrid designer cats, and are worth lots of money. A bengal cat can easily be stolen to be sold, since thieves can make thousands of pounds/dollars over them. And, in certain places of America, as an example, New York, Bengal cats have been banned, because they caused devastation to wildlife, even more so than your average cat. And you could say, “well, use a bell”, there is still plenty of issues with adding a bell to your cats collar. First of all, cats are predators, and predators tend to target sick or old prey, to get an easier kill. If an animal is sick or old, if could not be quick enough to get away, even if it did hear the bell, and if an animal is old, then they could be deaf or partially deaf, and won’t hear it. And not to mention, cats HATE bells. They are humiliating and annoying for cats, and your kitty will probably spend more time trying to rip the bell off than they do hunting, where the bell would actually be some use. So, you are probably wondering: “Then what am I supposed to do? I don’t want my cat/Bengal cat to be stuck inside” I recommend getting a harness to take your cat out on, especially Bengals, or, even better, get a Catio. This is a fairly large, secure outdoor enclosure that you can place your cat in, and add locks to the doors when leaving your cat in it, to avoid your kitty being stolen, or accidentally being released by anyone, young children in particular. Catio’s and harnesses are great ways to allow your cat to get outside, and avoid any risks. Thanks for reading.

I rarely comment on these sorts of topics, but this one strikes me as a bit odd. First, I should share that we are new to the cat ownership arena. I met my first Bengal at a friends house and was immediately taken with the personality, intelligence, and of course, the beauty of the breed. Having never owned a cat, I researched relentlessly for over a year, talked to friends that owned cats, and let a fair amount of time pass to ensure that we were ready for the commitment, and that a cat would indeed fit into the household with our dog. Our beloved little guy has now been a part of the family for two years, and we could not be happier. That said, I had no idea there was such a debate out there surrounding this topic. I had detailed conversation with fellow cat owners, as well as our vet, and the breeder on the topic before bringing our bengal home, and while there are definitely different schools of thought, Some of the comments here seem pretty uneducated. Folks seem quick to jump on one side of the fence, or the other...and it is surprising to me that no one is discussing two key facts... First, this language surrounding a cats instinct, and keeping them in the house is cruel, is simply uneducated. The cats we own today, are not their ancestors. Even if they were, their ancestors were not equipped to deal with 21st century trappings like automobiles, sadistic individuals, chemicals, and all the other man-made issues of the day. The term "domesticated cat" is a scientific term, that exists for a reason. Man has spent thousands of years domesticating, and cross breeding this animal...it is not the hunter/preditor that it once was. They exist in our lives today, because we created them, with the intention of bonding with them...which leads me to the second fact... We all have an obligation to be responsible pet owners. The latest National Geographic studies have the feral cat population in the US at near 70 million. One does not need to venture much further than your local animal shelter, where they are being euthanized daily, to see evidence of the issue. This was a HUGE topic for us as we considered becoming cat owners...all of our dogs have been rescues, so we really felt the obligation to do the same for a cat. In the end, we were so drawn to the personality, and character traits of the Bengal, that we stepped outside our normal behavior. That said, each environment is unique, as is the animal. Our little man is quite content to observe the great outdoors from an upstairs window, for hours. The few times he has bolted out a door with the dog, he does not get much further than 5 or 6 feet from the door, before sitting and quietly observing his surroundings. We allow him to do so, supervised. If he were to start showing more interest in the outdoors...then we will accommodate him....harness, leash, catio, etc... Our little man is a beloved member of the family, and we would no more consider opening the door and letting him play unsupervised in the streets than we would our dog, or our 5 year old son. For those of you that draw correlations between a child and a cat, again, I would state uneducated. If you truly believe your 6 year old cat, has the same cognitive, reasoning, and common logic ability, as your 10 year old child, then I feel bad for your child. Final thought...from the photos in your videos, and what you say, it appears that you live in a fairly rural area, which I think we can all agree brings in different rules. I grew up on my grandfathers farm, where there were always plenty of cats around, that were not allowed in the house at all...My grandfather believed they had a job, and that was to keep the mice out of the hay...and they did their job well, rarely was there an incident when one left and never came back, but it did happen. Point being, different time, different place.

Guide Yes, they do.. They could get stolen, hit by a car, get lost and die, or even turn feral/stray, meaning if you got your kitty back, they would be wild and aggressive, and not the nice little cat they used to be. Cats are no longer “wild”. Yes, they have strong instinct, but they have been domesticated, and now rely on people a lot more than most realise at first.

Cats are naturally meant to live outside, it absolutely baffles me this is even a debate, or that people convince themselves it’s too dangerous. I’ve never had a cat that wasn’t free to be able to come and go. It’s cruel in my opinion to not let a cat go outside. It’s like keeping a human inside it’s whole life for fear of us dying. Cats need nature, they need freedom, in fact all animals do. Indoor cats is a human made concept which is purely about our fear and nothing to do with the cat itself. Cats need to have the option of freedom where they choose to come home to you and most will. If you don’t live in an environment which you feel happy to let a cat out or just purely can’t because you live in a flat then don’t have a cat. Simple as that and don’t even get me started on cats on leads!

They live very short lives outside. I had a male who I had always suspected was partially Bengal, he was very vocal and chirped...paced all the time in my home, and was very “wild”. I let him out and he spent almost three wonderful years being a complete predator. He was so smart he would follow us everywhere. We lost him on Christmas night, he got distracted and was no doubt hunting something when he wandered onto the on ramp for an interstate about a mile from our home. 😭

I am so glad you let your bengal outside. Cats (expecially bengals) are territorial, acrobatic and very self reliant. My old cat (just a everyday rescue moggie) was never restricted to the house. He was out most of the summer (sometimes wound disappear for weeks) hunting and doing what it was in his nature to do. He ended up proudly strutting back with a rabbit he'd killed (so we knew he'd been eating well at least lol). We do live rurally so have a lot of open fields and hunting grounds that were his second home. He ended up passing away at 18 years of age and the vet was shocked to learn his age because of how fit and agile he still was (so try and not take stereotypes about outdoor cats living shorter lives literally). He passed away peacefully and because of he was I researched other cats that matched his personality (I couldn't have a house cat now) and found the begal. My little man has already been reserved for us but even though he'll cost a bit of money I couldn't not let him have the same quality of life that we allowed our old moggy to have. I just don't understand people having bengals of they want house cats? There are other more content and docile breeds that are better suited to houses. I haven't ever personally had one but what I've read trying to turn a bengal breed into a exclusively indoor cat must be like confining a athlete to a armchair.

We had a lovely Bengal boy F4 and he was always an outdoor cat. He would roam on the roof and jump down onto our backs. He made his territory but never went for more than a couple of hours. The biggest issues we had was during duckling season and his prey instinct was so much higher than a moggy that he couldn't help but catch and toy with ducklings. Often killing them. He got the odd mouse and rat too, but he was a playful cat in the house. The other problem was his behaviour in the road. He was alert but expected cards to stop. One day he jumped in front of one and was fatally hit. So sad. He was 3 years. We can't replace him, but so want another. But can't bring ourselves to go the catio route, even though we have a good yard for one. Cats deserve to be out. It would be nice if they could be 100% safe, but its never going to happen. They would only have to get out once or twice and the genie is out of the bottle.

If the cat wants out let it out. You have to respect who the cat is...the cat might live with you but it isn't your property. You can't nurf the world. I had a bengal cat and as hard as it was at times I let him come and go as he saw fit. Sure keeping the cat inside is safer but forcing a cat to live to way you see fit is selfish even though your doing it out of love. I would rather my cat die outside doing as he wants as opposed to jailing him for his own safety.
@bengalcatlove198810 жыл бұрын
Hi Guilhem, I 110% completely agree. I ended up letting my cat outside despite my fears of him getting hurt. Yesterday, he woke up with an abscess on his neck from doing an outdoor activity and I had to take him to the vet to get it drained. I agree though, some cats really want outside and we need to respect that they are their own being and aren't our property to put in jail for our own satisfaction. Thanks for the comment, I know some others do not share this view. I still worry when my kitty is outside but I know he is happier, even if his life will be shorter.

Bengal Cat Love I don't suspect many to hold that view. Unfortunately we live in a world where man tries to conquer and control nature instead of working with it. Over the years Diego came home hurt many times, when he did I would keep him inside until i felt that he was properly healed...he would sit at the front door and I would say "I know Diego, but you need to heel before you go back out there" and he understood...most of the time. As he got older he wanted to go out less, and i was happy to keep him safe with me.

I would rather my cat live than be torn apart by a dog or hit by a car, and I think my cat would agree. Besides that, I signed a contract when I bought my Bengal that stated he must not be allowed to run freely outdoors. I take mine out on a harness and am working on an outdoor enclosure. A cat can be perfectly happy indoors with enough mental and physical stimulation. The average lifespan of an outdoor cat is only 2-3 years! That's just crazy. I paid $1,200 for my cat, I'm not about to let him roam around and be killed just so he can have what, a few hours, days, weeks of "doing as he wants."
@bengalcatlove19889 жыл бұрын
I understand your fears. I personally know someone that paid $30,000 to get pregnant. With that logic they should keep their baby locked up in a closet because he is too valuable to let outside at risk of getting hurt. So long as they feed the kid, give him some movies to watch and talk to him every once in a while the kid should be perfectly happy… especially if it doesn’t know that there is a life outside of the closet. I think the baby would probably agree (although it can’t really talk yet to be certain). It’s tough when our own fears get in the way of letting animals have their freedom even when some cats want it more than anything.
@RR-jg6tl9 жыл бұрын
Bengal Cat Love that makes no sense at all. I'm sure your friend doesn't let her kid out to play in traffic, does she? Much the same way a human mother holds her child's hand so it doesn't run into danger, I keep my cat on a long retractable leash. If you are comfortable with the dangers of letting your cat wonder freely, that's your business. I won't though. Absolutely refuse to let my cat get hit by a car, torn apart by dogs or catch an infectious feline disease and feel awful because I could have prevented it.
@Martyntd510 жыл бұрын
With respect, your concerns are about you, not your cat. Your cat is perfectly capable of looking after itself outside. Of course there are hazards, but that is part of life. Just like you have to let children live their own lives, you *should* let your cat do the same. Yes you can force your cat to stay inside against it's will, but you would be prosecuted if you did that to a child. I know a cat isn't a child and doesn't have the same rights, but it has wants and yours clearly wants to be out in nature. Yes it could run away, it could be hit by a car, it could be stolen (get it microchipped), or any number of other things, but your cat will be much happier living the life it wants to live, rather than the forced life you want it to live. My marble bengal - who looks almost identical to yours - has 24/7 access outside and we live in a town, with roads, other cats, predators, people and all the other hazards you list. He is 8 years old now and I wouldn't dream of keeping him caged indoors. His life might be shorter for being an outdoor cat, or it might not, but his life will definitely be happier. Remember, a bengal cat is still a cat like any other, aside from the purchase value, they are 'worth' the same to their owners. There is nothing special about a bengal that gives it a higher value than any other loved pet. [edit] I've just seen your part 2 and see that you have let your cat outside. Good for you and even better for your cat. Dont worry about the teething issues, it's mostly just your cat learning the rules of his new world and you learning to manage your anxiety. It took forever to persuade my mother to let her snow bengal outside, and she was having panic attacks (my mother, not the cat). That was 10 years ago. She doesnt worry so much now.
@bengalcatlove198810 жыл бұрын
Hi martyntd5, I think you are completely right on 100% of your points. I personally was letting my own selfishness and fears get in the way of giving my cat the life he desired :-( Just because we spend sometimes a lot of money on Bengals, doesn't mean their life is any more valuable than any other cat that didn't cost a lot of money to purchase. After letting my cat outside for over a month now, in a way I have my old kitty back pre-outdoor anxiety. We let him out in the mornings and let him come and go as he pleases for the most part. I believe he is at peace with the other cats. The outside gives him a stimulation that he just doesn't get indoors no matter how much we play with him. Sometimes when I pull up in the driveway I'll see him jumping down from a tree really fast to greet me, and then he'll either come inside or continue playing outdoors. It's definitely a hard transition, not so much for the cats, but definitely some owners. In the end, we just really need to keep in mind what is best for the cat and not ourselves. Thanks for your feedback!

Let me just share my experience. My last bengal (a female) was an indoor cat ; but I felt bad for her and started letting her outside. She refused to be "street smart" ... it was pretty obvious, rolling around in the street etc -- but she simply would not let me keep her in the house after months of being allowed to go outside. Recently, she was hit by a car, and unfortunately she didn't make it. Do I feel bad that I gave my Bengal the outdoor freedom? Nope. I think they are cats, and cats need to be outside. That's just the way I was raised with animals, and I have a negative view towards animals in captivity in general. BUT, her fears ARE well founded my friend. Just my two cents.
@christinetrzcinski45618 жыл бұрын

@leopardbengals81217 жыл бұрын
I disagree; unless the cat was raised outdoors, i.e. as a barn cat or mouser (which I would never, ever do with my Bengals), even with natural feline instincts, they do not have the right level of "street smarts" to survive more than a few years (4-6), & in rare cases may live longer. A Bengal is a much more curious breed of cat & that can easily get them killed - if allowed to roam freely outdoors. Most parents wouldn't dream of allowing a small child to roam freely, unattended outdoors, why do this with an animal(??) - not to mention most cities have ordinances against it. ...I might add that I am involved in Bengal Cat Rescue on a national level & have seen the shocking statistics first-hand.

Look up feral cats in Australia, they are responsible for hunting native species to near extinction, so letting cats out might actually not be great for the environment. Have you ever considered creating an outside enclosure, like in a zoo that would allow them to explore but still be safe? We live in a large city and still occasionally see foxes, raccoons, and even the odd porcupine. All of these animals could seriously injure an urban feline. I hope you find something that works for you and your cats. Also, if you do plan to let them out, there is a Lyme disease vaccine available even though it is less common in cats it is good to be prepared if they will be outside.

Each time we want her we use a clicker and rewards when she responds. Today she has been out with me a few hours while I was gardening. I am finding she generally stays within eye shot of me. I have also found if I come in she will more then often follow me in to. I think they are like children they like doing things they are not supposed to ! But give them a bit of freedom and then the novelty wears off a little. She’s now fast asleep on my lap !

We also considered exactly the same things & came to the same conclusion. My personal opinion is as long as the cat is happy with the indoor environment he/she will live a pretty stress free existence. Every cat is likely different but in our case we got lucky as our male Bengal never went through any real phase of wanting to go outdoors. He does like to sometimes look out of the window & chatter to birds in the garden but is not overly interested in going outside. I guess if he did yearn to be outside we might have had to reconsider things.
@bengalcatlove198810 жыл бұрын
I envy you! I have 2 males which I thought would cause problems, but one is just as happy as can be indoors. He does the same thing as yours... he loves sitting in the window chattering at birds and takes an interest to watching the outside world go by, but never asks to be let out. Given the option to be in our out, he'd probably choose in as he is a scardy cat and extremely shy and timid. When I let Malek out on purpose for the first time after filming this video, he chased a deer off the property within a couple hours so clearly he isn't afraid of much. Part of me feels guilty like him wanting outside so bad is my own fault for one reason or another, but I also think that cats really are wild and some really just need to be outside at the risk of a shorter life :-( I've been letting Malek outside daily now even though it still terrifies me, and I'm happy to report that things have been going much better than I thought. I'll be doing a followup video soon! He came inside today three times on his own, I can always get him in before dark, and when he's inside, he's as happy as a clam which is a 180 from a week ago. Hopefully he will lose interest in the outdoors once it's no longer taboo? A mom could be hopeful at least :-)

Let them out if they're done you don't own a cat it chooses to be with you if you let it have it's freedom and live it's life how it wants it will always come back, although my Bengal doesn't go to anyone but family outside. He's also never been taken out on a lead.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this... Fleas & ticks in summer are a great hazard to cats, not to mention the inside of your house when you let them in.

Many points for and against. But after the 7th operation to remove grass blades from my cats soft palate, (due to an abnormality in his breathing) my vet recommended I keep him in. Well. Try to keep the tide back with your hands. But now, 3 years later, he adapted to being inside, and when the snow covers all the grass outside, I let him out to run about for a few minutes. Heartbreaking at first, but he is well, lots of cat grass (no serrated edges), loads of toys.

Once you allow a Bengal cat outside, you're setting yourself up for a future heartache. We live 5-7 mins from a small city & have an illusive mountain lion, a hawk (takes cats & small dogs), & a very bold, large wolf in our immediate neighborhood!! But, if you must let your Bengal cat outdoors [on a harness & leash], never, ever allow them to cross the threshold of the door by themselves - always carry them across, or they will bolt out at every opportunity! Also, keep in mind, that most Bengal cats do not stick around the immediate area, but, "go off on an adventure" instead. So, if you want your Bengal cat to enjoy the outdoors while keeping him/her very safe, I highly recommend a new & very popular trend, a "Catio!!"

My Bengal cat Scotty, is very good about coming home when I call him in ,he has always come to me , Scotty has all his shots that is very important and I live in the country , he nevers leaves our property . When I 1st met Scotty as a kitten he picked me and he is always with me ,so when I call for him he comes to me . Scotty loves water , he is into everything ,steals my glasses ,hides things , hes loves climbing everything and does so very well at first I was concerned about it but soon found Scotty was fine .Bengal cats ,they are different from other breeds they want your attention all the time ,one gets used to it as they are a very loving breed good natured ,but they do have a mind of there own . My Scotty he loves to go out in the car and is very well behaved while in the car , but do not leave a bengal cat alone in the car as I did come out once and caught a person trying to break my cars window, and on a winters day for crying out loud , she said she was concerned for the cat , I told her the Cat was only alone for 5mins . My take she was trying to steal my cat, so be aware of this as Bengals do attracted people . They are very good company ,buddies and will love you forever more . Scotty is so different from any other cat I have ever owned ,it is like he is my partner or even to me in his mind and he reminds me of this fact daily , he did pick me and he was only 8wks old .

I'd never let my Bengal roam the neighbour hood cos of other cats with diseases, fighting injuries and hunting native animals are not cool, so I have an outdoor enclosure I let her run and play in which she loves, she can play in the grass, get warm in the sun, watch the birds teasing her and sleep all day in....

My Noodles has run outside twice in the last year. Both times she’s was gone!!!! I’ve made it a habit that whenever I feed Noodles I ring a bell. Well I’m trying to teach her to ring it herself, but no luck. So when she ran I was walking around outside ringing this bell. After an hour, both times, she returned. I like to think the bell helped!!! It’s so scary when they run So now I’m more careful then ever!!!!

I provided my bengal with GPS tracker ( after long consideration we chose weenect 2) and I let her outside for 3 hours a day. It has been a month now and she keeps only around my house and garden. I do hope it will stay this way. But the tracker on her let's me spy on her very second. And yes I do it because I'm paranoid when she is out 👀👀.

Quite extraordinary. IMHO only a cruel and heartless owner would not let their cat outside. I have a Bengal cat and she roams for miles, and once was driven 5 miles away by mistake and found her way back home 3 days later. Cats are animals, not fur babies. They can cope admirably.

I'm in the same boat! My cat was a stray though & I took him in in 2011 after I graduated High school when I got my own place. He is the most affectionate boy: ). I moved to another city and it's a very Nice neighborhood but the road can be busy but I have a huge backyard! Sometimes I take him on the deck & he loves it. He got out last summer and he came back luckily! I was worried sick. I love him so much but I would be lost if something happened to him
@bengalcatlove198810 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle! That's so great that when he got out he returned. I believe lots of cats will as they know where their home is, but scary with roads nonetheless. I lived with someone who had a cat that wanted outside bad (she was an outside cat her whole life forced to be an indoor cat at age 13), so bad that she would claw the doors until she was bleeding, refuse to use her litter box, kept everyone in the house up at night, and after she was let outside again, she lasted for just a few months before being hit by a car in the neighborhood :-( Fortunately, a lot of cats don't want out THAT bad, and there's a lot of cats that don't play in the road or can find a balance between outside and inside, or at least staying on the property. Do you put your cat on a leash or does he stay in the yard on his own?

Bengals love to be walked with a leash and harness. Have you done the with your Bengals? I think you would be very happy with that and you won't feel so guilty about leaving your cat inside 24/7.My Bengal goes every where with me ever since she was a kitten. I take her in a cloth bag and she loves sitting inside it with her head hanging out. She her collar is attached to the inside of the bag so she doesn't jump or fall out, but she never tries to. I take her to doc appts. with me, the nurse all go nuts over her..the docs too. I take her on road trips with me. I keep a litter box in the back of my SUV...an open cat carrier in the middle seats and a pillow on the front seat. She sits up on the pillow in the front seat to look out of the window. I started doing this when I first brought her home at 10 weeks old. I have 2 calico cat sisters that I adopted from a feral cat foundation and I trained them to go inside and out. They love going outside and roaming. ( I live on acreage though) I have never had a problem with any of my cats going outside. I've had 3 calico girls 2 at the same time and the third after the 2 passed away. They were never inside cats. They lived to be 16,16.5 and 17 years old. I've seen some house holds where their cats never have seen sunshine and those cats look fat and unhealthy as they also don't look like they have gotten any excercise. Just eat and sleep..that's all those cats do. My cats eat, climb trees, run around in my meadow, Chase deer, and they always come in when I call them. I guess I'm lucky, but again. These were 3 month old FERAL cats when I got them so you can train a cat to come in and out. I guess it's its environment that is the major difference. Of course this may not work in the city or with close neighbors or strange dogs.cats. etc. My Bengal who is now 4 months LOVES to be taken out on a leash with harness. She and I and her calico sisters walk around on my property together. I think you should give the leash/harness try with your Bengals. :-)

I have 7 cats and my youngest one loves to go outside but cant. He's 1 y/o and is really angry at the fact that my other 4 cats (3 of my cats are fully inside cats.) can go outside while he can't. He is a Ragdoll Siamese and Persian mix. Soon he will be an outside and inside cat once we get a fence in backyard. I'm only allowed to take him on walks but he wants more space rome. I have 2 leashes for him. A 5 foot leash and a 8 foot leash. Those still aren't good enough for him. So I absolutely can't wait until we get a fence in back yard for him and he can finally go outside.😊

I let my cat Purrelli outdoors every day. If I didn't he would go bananas. We live in a quiet neighborhood where people let cats out. When he was younger he caused problems in the neighborhood. Purrelli has beaten up every cat in the neighborhood at least once, and even a couple of small dogs (I'm not kidding). But I found that the reason was because neighbors left cat food outdoors for their cats, and Purrelli thought it was for him. Thus, the other cats were in the way of his food. Now that he is older he doesn't get into trouble any more. The neighbors love Purrelli, and everybody knows him by now. He is somewhat of a celebrity and I just couldn't imagine keeping him cooped up all day.

I have recently declawed my Bengal kitten. There are no predators in my small town and we live in a very slow road so I don’t fear for that especially since bengals have large front teeth but I do worry if she is going to run away...I know they are very smart but I am worried. I have been taking her out and showing her the outdoors and where our door is. Because I feel like she will one day get it like Malik did so if anything I hope that helps now she is meowing at me to go out again....I hope she is ok to be outside. I would also like to add if you are looking specifically to steal a Bengal cat you would have to be kinda an expert because while I have done my research I had never before heard of and Marbled Bengal before I met my baby so she didn’t look like one beside from her obvious small head shape.

Please consider building a "catio" for your cats, rather than exposing them to the dangers outside that far outweigh the advantages, not to mention YOUR quality of life when your cat doesn't come home for maybe several days and you're sick with worry and guilt! You can build catios as large as you want & that way you can achieve the best of both worlds - cats can have the outdoors experience while remaining protected. Instructions and/or "kits" are available online. Good luck. Love your vid posts.

Things you get to look forward to when it comes to outdoor cats. Disease. Death (cars, wildlife, trapped in a neighbors garage, I've seen it all) Torture. Fights (with other cats) Poor Diet The inability to observe litterbox use - an important tool in determining the health of your cat. Injuries. People are comparing keeping cats inside as cruel but if you did just the min. of care for your cat (exercising it for as little as ten minute a day) the behavior problems, the boredom, and their quality of life would improve. You can build a catio, I created mine with a $40 Ikea shelving unit and $10 in chicken wire and it has lasted two years. The cats (both former strays) LOVE it out there and rarely do I have issues of darting out the house because they know that their catio is open 24/7. Cats are not children. You cannot tell cats the dangers of the outdoors, you cannot tell them which plants to eat, or that antifreeze will shut their body down. They are companions that require us to care for them and letting them outside is a lazy way of 'exercising' them (running from other cats, killing thousands of native birds and even sending some to extinction, and dodging cars are all great ways of exercise.) Do you let your dog roam free without supervision? Do you let your horse? Your bird? Your four-year old child? Then don't let your cat.
@darkdezire138 жыл бұрын
Totally agreed. You forgot poisoning, drowning and beating from cat haters or people that don't appreciate their garden being used as a litter box. The other thing to consider is when your cat lives indoors with you, your relationship is much closer and you learn your cat's personality much more.
@Panic_Pickle7 жыл бұрын
Never had any of the above issues, and I've had free-roaming cats for 19 years. The major reason I would consider keeping my cats indoors would be for the sake of the local wildlife, not for my cat. If you honestly think you can make up for being outdoors you haven't seen a cat run through a forest. Unless you live in a giant, open, grass floor mansion you cannot replace that. However, if I lived in a more urban area with less forest and mountain side for the cat to explore, I could understand keeping cat indoors. My cats being free roaming doesn't mean I am distanced from them. All of my cats have spent much of their waking hours indoors with me, even with the opportunity to go exploring. They'll go outside if I'm out of the house, but otherwise they like to be around the people. I have had a Burmese, a lethargic British shorthair and two unusually active british shorthairs. I wouldn't get a more active breed like a burmese anymore as they kill the wildlife like nothing else :\

As a medical professional, no your cat should not go outside. A cat roaming around outside, is the equivalent to a small ecological disaster. They can contract soo many diseases, they are exposed to so many pathogens. Just a stray cat walking on your property without your knowledge, can pose a threat. if that cat has a disease ie. upper resp. If your cat has every had it, or if you know someone who has a cat who has had it, you would understand its so contagious sometimes you dont even see the cat responsible for spreading it. If you take your cat outside, supervise it, keep it on a leash, and dont let it near any roads, or animals. Make sure your cat is vaccinated. People may think its cute when your pet brings you little dead things. Think of all the diseases on that mouse next time your pet has it in its mouth.

I keep an eye on her & check on her regularly. Sometimes she goes stir-crazy when she wants to go out, going from window to door meowing like your boy does. Well I've taught her to watch Cat TV & it settles her down so fast. I sit her in front of it like a child & she completely relaxes!! Also bringing the outdoors in is good. Like bringing a branch of a tree inside so they can sniff it & chew on it. :^)

here is what i did and it really worked. it sounds retarded butt i dont really care it trained my cat. i would smoke outside and my domestic short hair always wanted to come out too and not having a screen door really made her mad. so one day i got a cheap small dog leash and i put it on her and took her out with me and put the loop on my chair leg. she was able to walk around the porch comfortably, so after a week doing that i got the retractable leash and pulled it all the way out and taped the button down. took a metal band for drain pipes and screwed the leash to the deck by the door. works really well and havent had any issues. she now rides in the truck, goes camping with us, checks the mail, plays outside while the kids play outside and she took to the leash really well. the harness took a little bit though.

Firstly are your cats fixed and spayed?This removed the spraying and the drive to go outside with mine. I rescued all 4 of my Bengals from a cattery that kept them for breeding in a bathtub.Khai and Ollie the males, Fiona and Livia the females.Ollie died from herpes that traveled to his eye,even removing it wouldn't have helped.Livia has it also and has been on meds her whole life... all this because of inbreeding.A lot of her skin is bare and scarred from it.I don't believe in declawing,everyone should watch a video of how it's done and you will rather replace your furniture.Please people don't breed animals unless you're well versed in it and have the proper vet and space.That wasn't meant for you, just in general to folks. :) It isn't mean to keep cats inside.I've had about 20 in my life time most got to be 16 to 22 yrs of age.The average outside cat lives 5.

You give them a bell collar?…That is not okay! Cats are very sensitive to noise and its Loud for them, especially if they go outside they have to be able to hide and be sneaky, so a bell collar is also not good for that. Bengals are very social as well, it is normal for cats to see other cats. I do not like this video at all to be honest. You should also go every year to the vet and especially if you live in a rural area you can leave them outside. And if you have 2 cats they can outside together. They need a kitty door so if they are scared or there is something they can come in. There are kitty doors with a tag (on the collar) so they can come in but no other cats can enter. You have to let them outside! It is what they need and deserve. No one should decide over any other living animal to deny their freedom. I am soon going to take 2 bengals kittens, first teach them (at a young age) to go out with a leach to discover together and learn them to come back when I call them. Bengals are amazing climbers as well, so if danger is there they can easily climb up. So let them out! Make adaptations to your house, install a kitty door get them gps collars and go to the vet. It is what they deserve. When we go out there are so many dangers as well, and that still is not a reason we never ever go outside. I would also not like a bell in my ears the entire time, so why would you do that to a cat, it is cruel.

Omg you are so lucky your cat wasnt caught by a coyote or fox or coywolf. NEVER LET YOUR CAT OUT AT NIGHT ALONE ONLY WALK ON A SHORT LEASH IF ITS DARK, have a helper for photo shoots outside WE WATCHED OUR BEAUTIFUL BENGAL X LIKE A HAWK FOR 10.5 yrs.. And the 1 minute( literally 60 sec) a damn coyote in a city park by our house charged him.. He fought him and tore fur out of the coyote cut the There are TONS OF COYOTES IN THE CITY OF EDMONTON TIMES HAVE CHANGED MAJOR HEADLINES THE LAST 2 yrs..tons of people are losing their small dogs and cats Our buddy with 3 large dogs was attacked by 4 coyotes last fall Coyotes hide on your property and cats lingering around your home leaves more scent that endangers your pets Good video👍🐥💐 You can get cell phone apps that work with a security camera to keep an eye on your pets wherever you go Swanne eye is what we use

Good decision not to let them out! Their life expectancy is 5 years if you let them out, down from 15 to 20 years, not to mention the possibility of injury or disease. We are in a rural area, and the coyotes would love to kill/eat my kitty for dinner. None of the breeders I know let their cats out, EVER.

Oughto adopt the cats from shelters instead of buying bengals. Yes theyre aesthetic to look at, but high maintenance

Then there are predators. Owls, hawk's, eagles, coyotees. Other cats.

Let them out and pay the consequence. Pretty simple. Train them to walk on leash. A coyote lunches on a cat no problem. So its silly about stressing over how the cat "feels" . Its idiotic to struggle over possibilities. Let go and enjoy them without stress.
