Been using CEREC for 3 years now. Cannot imagine a world without it. Implants are too easy with the scanposts and TiBases. Never thought I would practice without temporaries or impression materials. Keep up the good work!

Hello, I wanna ask you an urgent question , a dentist told me he needs to do me a crown lenghthening surgery, but another dentist told me with Cad cam, he can put the crowns without the surgery due to its technology, is that true from your point of view?

This is a great question and really highlights the differing opinions among dental providers today. Historically, crowns require that the tooth be cut down to a specific dimension and what is left needs to be a certain height to keep the crown on the tooth (there is more to it than that but that is a simple explanation). We have made huge advances in bonding and the scientific evidence is very supportive of less invasive techniques that depend more on bonding than mechanical retention of crowns. What the first dentist would call a crown, I may call a partial coverage restoration. But to answer your question more specifically, yes you can do conservative, bonded restorations without the need for crown lengthening. I work in an office with 6 specialists and most of them think like the first dentist you mentioned. In my opinion, that is an old way of thinking and current, modern day dentistry has the ability to do more with less. That being said, there are specific protocols that have been proven to give better outcomes. If I were in your situation I would look for someone who understands biomimetic principles of bonding. You can search for these providers on the website of Academy of Biomimetic Dentistry. Good luck!

@@TheComprehensiveDentist thank you so much for the quick answer, I have to decide soon, yes one dentist told me he can put the crowns without the need for surgery and he mentioned the Cad cam, and the other said this doesn't work at all because I have two teeth that need surgery around them to be able to put crowns and he said that this hurts the gum later , so of course this whole thing made me so confused, and this is what led me to make a research and found your video now and asked you right on!

The Mona. Well I wish you the best but I mean what I say about the biomimetic bonding techniques. If the dentist using cad cam does not have a firm understanding of bonding, then I wouldn’t let them do it. My two cents.

What i know that crown lengthening means cutting some of gum, is that right?

@@vsdasd yup.. Cutting from the gum so that the dentist will be able to put a crown... (terrified to do this)
