There are thousands of historical homes standing that were built with nails. This current craze to screw everything together simply adds more time and costs to projects. Nails and 2" staples provide plenty of holding power. Adding an occasional screw in parts where movement and vibration occur is a good idea, but the current trend to overbuild everything like it has to last 1000 years is foolishness.

For myself, I've found that when my skills and knowledge are lacking, I overbuild things because I am not confident in the results. As I gain experience, I am more confident in using the right tool for the application, which makes everything more efficient.
