@@mkhan8527 Well, I agree with you in a way, but… the other swimmers were actually allowed to wear the swimsuits Ian Thorpe wore however, most felt uncomfortable by the arms and preferred to wear the ones with no sleeve.

I LOVE Ian Thorpe. He is one of the greatest swimmers ever. It is unfortunate that he retired so early on in his career 😥. Great points on the lack of streamline and long glide in finish. Even his head position at times... kinda high looking almost straight ahead at the other end of the pool. I would never be able to get away with that but somehow it all worked amazing for him. I don't think the suit was that great. I mean can you imagine swimming with sleeves? It just looked so restrictive as far as mobility. Also it is hard to believe that addidas (not really a swimming brand per say) would be that far ahead compared to speedo and arena which specialize in swimming products.

A lot of middle D swimmers have a higher head position or lift before their breath, always something that I have had to question!

Talent speaking Ian is the Greatest Swimmer of all time. His Freestyle technique is flawless, absolutely perfect and pure beauty, unmatched, the only swimmer that had come close Sun Yang and Popov imho. He's one of the very few athlete been able to unite beauty and effectiveness, like Senna, Federer, Alì.

Also, I swam in the era of ultra tech suits (LZR and JAKED/ARENA). As a breastroker I felt that even a hydrophobic legskin had my legs slipping in the water and prevented me from kicking forward with as much power. I feel like adding that to the arms would make it feel like I couldn't pull. Not a suit I would wear.

Sorry to disagree on your opinion regarding these kneeskin or full body suits. I think that sometimes slightly more high tech just attracts public opinion, crowds of fans and the media. If great athletes who train hard are able to make a new WR this makes headlines and also could have new sponsors conveying the message. So I think a bit of a high tech appeal is a kind of turbo for an already fascinating sports. And could inspire some young people to begin their fight or challenge against all th eoverweight issues which are caused by to less motion and sports. So these suits and their tech appeal could also be kind of increasing overall health.

If I didn't recall wrongly Thorpe always glides to finish his 400m race. There wasn't anyone in front of him at his prime, thus he didn't need to do a quick last stroke like Phelps did against Cavic in the 100m fly at Beijing 2008. Of course if he took a quick additional stroke in this race it would be sub 3:40 and the WR his till today.

Having a 'high elbow' has nothing to do with having the elbow as close to the surface as possible, but about having it higher than your wrist, that's it. Having it super close to the surface is even very counterproductive
