The Z8 is currently selling for Rs. 2.78L only body, the Z6iii would be atleast Rs. 2.15-2.20L. The gap is very close for professionals who earn money from photography & also for hardcore wildlife enthusiasts. 2.78L for a 45MP stacked sensor is an excellent deal.

As someone that uses Nikon and Sony, the fact of being able to adapt Sony lens to Nikon was a big factor for me getting a Sony camera over Canon. Though not a perfect fit (currently no lens correction for Sony via the ETZ adapter) in all scenarios, the "issues" can be solved in software, making Sony an easy choice. Canon has some nice RF lens however, they don't adapt to Nikon and for me, that meant I would have to have lens for both system and Canon lens aren't exactly reasonable priced with some being large. The Z6 III is long overdue, I'm hoping Nikon is working on making a lot of them to have inventory when they launch, if it ends up being a standout like the Z8 and Z9.

Hi Frames - with all those considerations my guess is that they are just going to go all the way to August as I have been saying and the camera will be out sometime between August and October and will be a true 4 year life cycle since Z6II - the difference is that I expect that there will be more good FW updates for Z6III over the next 4 years keeping it much more current than the poor Z6II which in the last 2 years really fell behind the times. -PD

Regrettably, Canon RF mount lenses are incompatible with Nikon Z mount cameras due to a slight variation in throat diameter. The RF mount's diameter of 54mm is only 1mm smaller than the Z mount's diameter of 55mm. This slight difference prevents the adapter from accommodating the necessary electrical contact tabs due to the lack of space. On the positive side, the Fujifilm GFX medium format is the only widely used optical system that is mathematically aligned with the distance scale and compatible with the Nikon Z mount. The Fujifilm GFX system includes the G Mount, with a diameter of 65mm, and the Z Mount, with a somewhat smaller diameter of 55mm. The Fujifilm G Mount has a flange back distance of 26.7mm, and the Nikon Z has a flange distance of 16mm, which provides sufficient space for the adapter.

Let’s hope Nikon is taking longer to finalize the features and specs of the Z 6III to make sure it will compete very well against other manufacturer’s offerings at a similar or lower price point. At least I’m hoping that is what’s taking longer to insure that they don’t disappoint their costumers after waiting such a long time for a significant upgrade.

Just to be clear: Flange distance "is the distance from the mounting flange (the interlocking metal rings on the camera and the rear of the lens) to the film or image sensor plane" (wikipedia). It's not the rear element of the lens. Otherwise the lenses that take teleconverters would have a different flange distance to the - let's say Plena.

@@Sebas-sg1kj I shot an indoor dance event / low light action with my Zf this past weekend, the results look amazing even at 6400 and higher. Amazing sensor. I imagine a stacked 24 would be even better. Just a hunch about the Z6III on my end of course 🙂

@@csc-photo I had the same hunch as you since day 1. I had a Z6 for years, i´m very happy with it but i think is the line that has had less innovation, a dissapointing mark ii version, and is a very important market for Nikon i think, just in the sweet spot. Hope you are right with the z6iii.

I pulled the plug on the Z6III. I am not waiting until late 2024 or early 2025 until it is fianally on the shelves. I purchased the Zf yesterday.

It would be nice for us users if converters were officially supported but I can't see that happening. Even sony, the one that started the whole thing started crippling everything that isn't theirs and connected to their camera's like limiting frame rates and refusing to work with tele converters. Nand and Dram manufacturers are practically cartels that collude so prices don't fall, I think it was 2022 when samsung slashed their nand production by 90% because prices were going down. instead of making bigger harddrives that could use the extra capacity and millions of people like us that create digital content want and need. I don't know about other parts, but I think it's very unlikely that it's because there are shortages but more a case of there still being a healthy stock of Z6II's and people buying them.

Seems that Nikon has reduced the price of the Z 8 by some 10% or a bit more even. This makes the "positioning problem" for a Z 6iii and Z 7iii bigger again. In my opinion, if there would be a Z 6iii and Z 7iii, these will retain a similar sensor and just get a new motherboard with EXPEED 7. With CFexpress Type B, they are better positioned in the prosumer market segment than a Z f. Which forces another scenario on us. Why would 24MP Z shooters need a Z 6iii, still? Remove that from the tableau and it will be easier to position a Z 7iii between Z f and Z 8. And to repeat myself again, a Z 7(ii) is millimetres smaller than a D500. Nikon's software developers never gave DX mode in the Z cameras a lot faster capability when the actual MP shifted through the camera can be a lot less, especially in the 45MP camera's case. No, these 3 should not work together - one of them had "kill the other one" as strategy for a long time. With that history collaboration is never going to fly. When it comes to Red being a Nikon-owned brand, I remarked before, it would be great to see a variant with Nikon Z mount. Potentially next to the Canon mount. Nikon selling cameras for Canon lenses is not likely in the longer term. If Red is paying license fee money to Canon for using the Canon mount then Nikon will end that sooner rather than later. A corporation hates to spend out of pocket money. It seems to me that Nikon had two objectives in acquiring Red. (1) Bigger footprint/potential in the professional (lens) market that has a reputation oil stain on water effect. They used to be perceived as the professional choice in say 1980s when 80% of photo journalists worldwide shot Nikon. (2) Get an insight into how Red was designing their sensors, AD-conversion, raw processing, etc. In the professional video market, Sony used to have a big position with their (analogue) television cameras and when Nikon started to work with Sony Semiconductor as their foundry, there was no conflict of interests. Sony's acquisition of the KonicaMinolta camera company changed that. But as KonicaMinolta got incorporated as a legal entity separate from Semiconductor, the relation with the foundry did not end. I'm not sure if Red was seriously competing with Sony in that market, either in today's video version of TV or in the digital version of movie-making. But here again, Nikon can compete. And let's face it, when Nikon start offering the Red cameras with Z mount, and their lenses get sold in the pro markets that way, it also generates spill-over into today's mirrorless market.
