Last year I sent a E-Mail to NIO suggesting that they should put Austria and Switzerland on their priority list because they are both small countries which do not require excessive number of swap stations.Further there is a lot of tourists and transit traffic so combined with local sales plus the strong Swiss franc and no high taxes car imports.I also gave them the name of the biggest and best car company they should deal with.I received an answer from them via Germany representative short and sweet. Switzerland is foreseen mid 2025.I have said it many times that NIO needs a professional Marketing executive with sales knowledge and experience in the car industry.

Exactly Marcel, #NIO missed to prepare enough #PSS in Europe in the very beginning. Also enter more countries like Austria and Switzerland very early, hopefully that will change soon 🪫🔁🔋🏁

I heard it was due to the bureaucracy and the fact for example that Germany does not allow to build swap stations in city centers. Not sure whether anything has changed about that recently. If I remember correctly, there was supposed to be ~120 stations in Europe by the end of 2023. But the fact that NIO is exploring other regions, such as MENA and still expanding in Europe even in countries where they have not established car sales, such as Belgium, gives me hope or shall I say confidence they're on the right track. The competition in the EV space is fierce, but NIO has the moat and should benefit from it as the number of stations grows further & more and more cars roll off the production lines. Do your own DD. :)

If they also enter into partnership with European car manufacturers they could expand and share their battery exchange stations and therefore have a dual use of battery exchange for cars and energy exchange for the network avoiding fluctuations . Thanks Marcel for this interesting video 👍 🔋

Likely to start in 2025 but expect volume in 2026 / 2027. Its up to the partners to develop the cars. That takes about 2 years in China and depends on their R&D funnel

righthand drive countries EV sales are booming. Honestly, Nio would have had sold a lot more cars had it expanded to South East Asia and Australia, and with much lower operating cost, they would have much better margin.

1. Contribution to the grid is negligible. 2. The revenue from the Grid Balancing is barely enough to cover the Cost of the BaaS station; remind you that a station demands certain regular maintenance, repair and, in harsher environments or climate, these become even more expensive. So at the Best the GB should cover these cost. This is nothing to sneeze about and I regard it as a positive in a grander scheme of the operation cost. German industry is paying a heavy price for some (not all) green decisions! I agree with your comment regarding NIO expansion in Switzerland. I suspect they have very tight or restricting regulations!! Like you shouldn’t breath after 10:00pm😅 Cheers!

I think NIO should only put swap stations at dealerships, then swap your battery about as often as you would an oil change. Use charging stations at home or on the road, I don’t see why you would need to swap your battery that often, just swap the battery to keep it up to date
@Hans-F6 күн бұрын
NIO card and swap goes hand in hand. Why buy a Nio if there are no power swap? The power swap network has to be better, people don’t understand what the point is before they see it. No power swap no sales. For further expansion Nio should start with their swap stations before building Nio houses.
@simvikmat40625 күн бұрын
They made a big mistake by going into Denmark 3 years ago. They hired a lot of staff and built one swap station. They have over 100 cars on stock. And sell no cars. Max 2 this year. Sounds like bad decision.

Nio needs to be profitable and sales need to increase. Infrastructure needs to grow to accommodate demand and use…… Nio will take many years to grow into Europe but it can be done, it is the best product out there. 🙏🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
@Burgermonster6 күн бұрын
You can't really build a global brand when you ignore Europe. I think they were focused on introducing NIO to the green-conscious countries first, thinking their product would be most likely to be accepted there. I hope they stay in Europe although it will take a few more years before they become profitable there. Maybe Firefly will help?

NIO Power Grid balancing services in Northern Europe will start in 2025. This will set the base for further expansion as it will be highly profitable. Germany unfortunately is highly regulated so it would take some time…..

Hi Marcel, doubt that swap stations could have stand alone business case just from grid balancing (reaction to your idea of building swap stations before nio goes wild in sales of cars in GER)...
@corellian20115 күн бұрын
Do your homework. NIO already has one swap station in Norway I believe that turns a profit just on power swap with the grid.

It was a strategic mistake to enter into Europe. Because the Europeans are too poor to afford Nio cars.
@silys52536 күн бұрын
No they are not too poor. The problem with Europe is brand awareness and anti China sentiment. Europeans first need to be convinced that Chinese products are safe and high quality and worth the money. This takes time. Gaining market share would be easier if it wasnt a premium product that comes with a price tag. Hence my high expectations regarding ONVO and Firefly
@David349816 күн бұрын
Europeans are definitely not too poor. However rich Europeans tend to buy cars that are way more expensive and way less advanced than NIO, because Chinese high-end products are not popular and known (yet).

@David349816 күн бұрын
What mistake have they made? Not enough swap stations? If you don't like swap stations then I don't see what you see in NIO. Without the swap stations NIO is just another Chinese car manufacturer. But battery swap is very promising especially in China.
@dutch-g5p6 күн бұрын
@David34981 byd made solid state batteries and swap might be like a typewriter is compared to a laptop
@dutch-g5p5 күн бұрын
@@David34981 Nio's main problem is that the battery swap stations are expensive to built and can operate less services compared to a simple charging station area. Also the battery technology in China is developping so fast that a few days ago they develop a battery that can charge in 7minutes. 7 minutes is more than Nio's 3 minutes, but I think people are also hassistent to have batteries with unknown amount of use. If future charging technology improves in time than 7minutes might reduce more and make swap stations inferior. The only way Nio has a chancs of working with swap stations is to built a massive amount of swap stations and increase sales at a rate of tripple digits or the scaling of swap stations will diluted shareholders and maybe 4.50 usd might look cheap but if Nio again dilutes shareholders by another 100% you will own less of the business.

The Nio Houses would be completely empty if the access was only for users. I see it as a big advantage that people hang out there, even if they can't afford the cars. Soon Nio will add the much cheaper Firefly car to the Nio houses. That car could be interesting for those who hang out there regularly, especially younger people.
