I left Pakistan in December 1970 for America. Never looked back and felt guilty. Why should I? Whatever I decide to do something, I do my due dligence and Istikhara. I belonged to a poor famliy in Karachi. What I achived in America would have been unthinkable in Pakistan, Alhamdulillah. I have sponsered 60 some odd relatives to also let them settle here to realize their dreams.

Thank God I left Pakistan in 1970 , I belong to the rich class and have no intention to return and after witnessing the current situation I have dropped Pakistan citizenship and live as an American .. I do not want to be called a Pakistani ,numerous 0f us preferred to called as Indians. I began as a patriotic youngster who wanted to utilize her talents for the service of the country. Then I served 4 years in a government job in education sector where even giving my 200% didn't change anything because of the corrupt system we are engulfed in, not to mention the meagre salary that was paid. Eventually, I moved to UAE, where citizens are treated and valued as humans ought to be. I still love my homeland, and my heart bleeds to see the beauty of it going to waste in hands of corrupt establishment, but how can we survive in a country as corrupt unsafe and unjust as Pakistan? The injustice and cruelty my family had to face here, thanks to the non-functional judiciary, wasted their lives. And now the only thing I regret is why I didn't move abroad earlier. All those who think the youth needs to stay here and change stuff by doing their part are deluded. The change here will only come after another occupation, maybe. 😂

I understand the data analysis of class system but the reality is anyone with even 3 people in a family (husband, wife and child) cannot run the house on 50k and if they do they are considered middle class if 22% population is earning 3.5k in this era then they are mostly likely to be considered lower lower class not just lower class. In todays world for a man with 3 kids even 1lac is not enough if the family lives in bustling cities like Karachi, Lahore etc

Shezad, your statement of Balochistan and tribal belt and what's happening with people in the major cities is different and undermining the suffering of middle class is shallow, devoid of empathy and tilted. Yes, it has been going on in Balochistan and tribal belt and their the attrocities are more because they were remote areas. The area was cordened off. People kept hostage. Our homeland lasted for 24 years from 1947 to 1971. We're left with the Indus and Bengal separated. At least the Bengal is free from the establishment. His argument is a great one and he speaks about true patriots who have fought for the rights of our citizens.

You can even argue with the same logic that may be partition should have never happen and we should have a unites "states" of India type federal republic where each state is highly autonomous.

@@babrdwod7464 I don't disagree with that. The government there is definitely authoritarian in many ways. It is economically progressive however. Bengal is still doing significantly better compared to the other part of old Pakistan. There were still talks in 1947 with the Attlee government considering allowing all states and provinces having the option to be sovereign. This came about when Suhrawardy and Bose got Jinnah's approval to keep Bengal united and independent. It was opposed by Nehru and Patel though. Ironically, they were in support of the independent option for the frontier. Pakistan at that point was the only viable political solution left and the right one considering circumstances. It would have been better if they stayed on track for the original June 1948 timeline but what can you do.

The whole point of the 1940 Resolution was to have Muslim-majority provinces be sovereign and independent. Jinnah even supported an independent and united Bengal in 1947 proposed by Suhrawardy and Bose. It was the Congress that did not want to see Bengal as united and separate. She was completely deluded and incorrect when she said that. Lastly, I'm probably more Pakistani than Pakistanis.
