I don't think it should be banned, of course not! That would be awful. However, if there were people circling the arena, or stationed in the stands, whose sole responsibility it was to use levitation charms on players who have fallen off their brooms, and save them from a potentially lethal fall, that would probably be better. Then again, as Sirius Black would say, what's life without a little risk?

Voldemort gave it to him shortly before he fell from power but he didn't tell him that it was a Horcrux just that it was "enchanted" because Voldemort knew it would make the Chamber of Secrets open, unleash the Basilisk and send it on a Muggleborn killing spree. Voldemort probably intended his Horcrux to cause chaos around Hogwarts but never got round to using it before his attempt to kill Harry destroyed his body and reduced him to a wandering spirit. So as Dumbledore explains to Harry in Half Blood Prince Lucius believing Voldemort dead planted the diary on Ginny in Flourish and Blotts because he was pissed about Arthur beating him up in the middle of the shop earlier before. Lucius planned for Ginny to be framed for everything the Horcrux in the diary would cause which would bring bad publicity to Arthur's Muggle Protection Act and get it scrapped, have Dumbledore sacked as Headmaster for being unable to stop the attacks and get rid of the diary itself since it was a piece of evidence relating to his activities with dark magic and you could say it was proof that Lucius was a Death Eater too.

I agree, Quidditch is a very dangerous sport, but as you said - everything in the wizarding world seems to be more dangerous, and they also have the advantage of being able to heal injuries a lot faster and more efficient than muggles (growing back all the bones in your arm overnight, etc)

This channel has so much potential and I'm a fan of your content. It's just that you really just briefly scim over the topics you discuss, it comes across quite lazy like you're just trying to pump out videos as quick and as easy as possible. For example, with this video you literally just explained the ins and outs of quidditch without really going in depth and expressing your views and ideas. Admittedly this topic hasn't got a huge amount of things you could discuss but the point still stands. Wasn't there somebody that did a "How to fix Quidditch" video? I think there was. Who was it, SuperCarlinBrothers or Seamus Gorman ... I don't know, but one of them did it. I am sure of that. So yes, it needs fixing. A way to end the game that doesn't necessarily require catching the Golden Snitch would be ideal and a height limit on how high you can fly on the brooms. That's the two changes I would start with. More padding and safety gear requirements for the players would be a good idea too. So yes it needs changes, but I wouldn't ban it. I can't wait for the pro Quidditch video to come out. Great video!!

For anyone confused at the points system: The snitch serves as an end marker, especially when the snitch is caught in large scale games, such as the Quidditch world cup. Then, whenever you get into the 1000 point or more games, it doesn't really make much difference, so the best team wins. In school, with smaller scale games (less points), a win is almost guaranteed if you catch the snitch. Say if the Bulgarians vs the Irish in the Quidditch World Cup, the Bulgarians have 1215 points, the Irish have 1370 points the Bulgarians catch the snitch, they still lose, because they didn't have enough points to beat the Irish. they still only had 1365 points. Then picture this scenario. Hogwarts: Hufflepuff vs Slytherin. Slytherin-160, Hufflepuff-20, Hufflepuff catches the snitch, Hufflepuff wins because they get 150 points. which makes their score 170.

it's old already, but I vote for changes: 1- no seeker position > everyone can catch the golden snitch and that ends the game 2 - golden snitch only released after 30 minutes of play 3 - if in 90 minutes of play the golden snitch isn't caught, the game ends this small changes would make the game way more competitive and give the chasers an actual value it also allows for more tactics to be used: a team could opt to have someone to be focusing on the golden snitch, but then they would be in numeric disadvantage in the case of goal scoring.

I think that you highlighted the risks and the trained aspects of the players pretty well however there are a few changes I would make. Yes, there are referees there to keep track of unfair roughness, but what about people that are healers being there in case of serious injury (remember Wood taking a bludger to the head)? Or have people on ground level prepared to catch players with their wands should they actually fall the 50+ feet? I mean, I could MAYBE understand raising the stakes for professional players in the Quidditch league, but how about giving the kids a break? I mean, Harry nearly died in 3rd year because he fell off his broom. Another thing I might change, non-safety related, is the points of the snitch. I understand that it is given such a high point value because it is REALLY hard to catch and only one person can interact with it per team where as the rest of the team are working together, sure. But I do think it is over pointed. Maybe 100 points instead of a 150? It seems like it is rendering the chasers fairly pointless in half the games. NOt to say they aren't important, I would be a chaser, but even still.

It needs some key changes. The main thing is a time limit. 4 hours is more then enough time. The snitch makes no sense really. It shouldn't be a game ender but gives the team of the seeker an extra 150 points. Once the snitch is captured the seeker who captures it should be left in play while the other teams Seeker must leave the pitch for a set amount of time (5-10 minutes) in which this time the winning Seeker becomes a Chaser. At the end of this time the other Seeker rejoins the game as a Chaser and the game continues till the 4 hours is up. Before the snitch is captured the Seeker/Chaser can either look for the snitch or act as a Chaser. Possibly giving one team a one up on the other in way of having 4 Chasers which could lead to more points then if said Chaser was to act like a Seeker, but keeping in mind that if the other teams Seeker does capture the snitch they would be down a player for said amount of time. If at the end of the 4 hours the snitch is not captured then that is 150 points neither team would get. In line with this if at the end of the 4 hours the score is tied and if the snitch has been captured a new snitch would be let out and only the Seekers would be on the pitch. They would have 30 minutes to an hour to captured the Snitch if at the end the Snitch hasn't been captured the game ends in a tie. Just my thoughts on how things should be changed to keep the game in a manageable time frame and make the snitch worth having in the game and giving it real point value.

The only change I can see is having like a force field covering the ground below about 6ft high, so if you fall off you'll hit the force field and go though it, but as you do you'll slow down. Just means falling is no longer s big an issue

i would change a few things. One beater in each team and one bludger on the field would be enough so the game is not interupted too much. Golden snitch should be worth 70 points so that actual game means something and when the time passes, snitch gets slower and slower so game would normaly not exceed 5 hours where snitch becomes easy to catch. Its also not a bad idea if there would be a pool with deep water instead of a grass field incase of falling off the broomstick

Assuming that the game is being viewed by wizards and witches, when someone falls from their broom, there are plenty of folks to stop the player from hitting the ground hard as Dumbledore did in PoA when Harry fell hundreds of feet. I am sure there are some minor changes that wouldn't ruin the spirit of the game but could make it safer. Great channel.

Hey, I've been watching you for a while and I've noticed something through all this. Just my own opinion but I don't like how you say the title of the episode at the beginning and than play your intro. It just seems to make the video feel less professional. This is just my opinion, I think it would help make your videos seem a little more professional if maybe you just used text to use as a title. I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion, I just wanted to put it out there. Besides that I LOVE your videos. I love Potter, I have since I was a child and it really changed my life. Yes for slight change for safety reasons but definitely not ban because there would be a lot of uproar in the wizarding world if it was and also they really don't have any other sports that we know of except for gobstones but to me it seems quite boring . Although in the wizarding world it is a lot easier to heal people so I feel like that's why they're so relaxed about the safety of the game . In the late nineteenth century the ministry of magic created safety rules and added steep penalties if they were compromised which the people vehemently opposed launching a protest at the ministry of magic . The target of these rules were the beaters who often applied brutal tactics making it their mission to clobber the other teams players to win. The ministry of magic doesn’t have to ban Quidditch however the sports department can create additional safety measures and ethics to reduce injury and prevent sabotage from rival teams encouraging good sportsmanship. But as fans of Harry Potter series have come to realize , wizard culture tolerates brutality usually mistakenly associated with strength. Recall that dueling competitions allow competitors to duel to the death, a tradition that Cornelius Fudge was advocating for Wizard-kind to end and received a lot of pushback from the organization of Dueling stating that safety regulations would impede innovation of creation of new spells. Prioritizing life safety was perhaps the only good virtue that come out of Cornelius’ disastrous tenure and other than paranoia this may be another reason why Umbridge taught theoretical DADA as it was in line with her boss’s long held beliefs.

While i dont think that Quidditch should be banned, i could see some refinements and field adjustments that could make it safer and more repeatable. firstly none of the play roles should be adjusted outside of a time limit for controlled matches. field adjustments can be in the form of a slowing barrier as a safety net for any one falling from their broom. there are likely other features that could be added to refined the game to be more controlled.

With how easily magical medicine can repair mundane injuries, they are barely even a factor in post game. At best I would only be concerned about immediate death situations like falling from the broom and hitting the ground- which a referee can use their wand to prevent. Head injuries would be the greater threat, and it is possible that the healers can handle that damage.

Short answer: No, it should NOT be banned! Longer answer: I have a massive fic in fanfiction.net, "Or Die Trying", which retells the Canon from the point of view of Ravenclaw Seeker Cho Chang. In my opinion, the risks of Quidditch are exaggerated by non-players and Muggles who don't appreciate the fine points of the sport. Anyone worried about risks seem to have missed that each match has no fewer than three referees who can look out for players who do not or cannot look out for themselves. Quidditch would not still be around after nearly a millennium if it were unreasonably risky. Quidditch serves as an outlet for the derring-do and bravado of witches and wizards whose innate talents may well be limited to flying. And it is just another aspect of how life in the wizarding world mirrors the Muggle world; to quote Cho in my fanfic, meeting Harry about 6 years after the Battle of Hogwarts: "I made an obscene amount of money flying for Tutshill."

Presuming that there was only one secret keeper, would Voldemort have found out either way? If all the secret keepers die then the location wouldn't be hidden. I believe that Quidditch should continue with a few changes, first they shouldn’t play when it’s thundering and lightning. Second they also need some safety equipment like maybe a helmet or pads or something, in American football we don’t play when it storming outside, but we didn’t play when it’s just raining and we also play when it’s very cold outside and it’s snowing on the ground, but we don’t play when it gets very very nasty when there’s a blizzard. They shouldn’t play Quidditch up in the sky like that when it’s storming because that is very dangerous, but if it’s just raining outside then I guess it’s OK, because in football we play when it’s just raining and there’s no lightning or thunder.

Any non magical wounds can be instantly healed by a skilled healer wizard.And I'm assuming that Quidditch players are versed in safety spells like levitation. If you remember pre school kids have been known to show their magic power by levitating.

quidditch should get rid of the golden snitch rule and put a time limit on their games but i think the golden snitch is a neat idea it should not be a game ender, perhaps if it gave the team who catches it a advantage or something without just giving a flat amount of points and game end

yeah its dangerous but healers can do a lot to help the players. i mean really, a school nurse is better than any (and every) muggle doctor so what is a live changing injury to us is practically a scratch to them.

They could put a time limit but I think that if anythhing else is changed it wouldn't be fun. Personally I think they should include muggle sports for fitness

I wouldn´t say that it´s more dangerous than modern motorsports. The human error is minimalized by the skill of the driver and the danger is minimalised by the team of technicians bumping up the safety. I think that if every player has an apointed wizadr ready to "arresto momontum" him it should be as safe as rally for instance.

Your concept is correct, but you say that physicality is not banned in quiditch. It is, its one of the many fouls listed in Quiditch Through the Ages. Nice video btw, I think quiditch is a dangerous sport especially the bludgers

Well Quidditch itself is ok although they could perhaps put an upper time limit on it since spectators are eventually going to get bored no matter how diehard they are.

I think the potential for danger in Quidditch is dulled a bit by the fact that a lot of injuries sustained can be healed in a split second by magic.

Any real changes for Quidditch should be for player safety. A Quidditch Player's Association (QPA) should be established to represent the players & their interests (safety in the game, proper salary & contract negotiations) especially at the proffesional level (The NFL & NHL have such union type organizations to name a few). Rule changes in the sport especially for the bludger should be considered. Helmets should be manditory. Flack jackets/similar protection gear should be added (flack jackets especially are used in the NFL to protect your ribs). The game does not need to be banned at all, but it needs to evolve & change in some key ways to better address player safety.

this is a world with healing spells. sure if muggles were to play this they would die quickly. however with spells that can fix bones in seconds and even grow them back completely the risk goes down. with this magic falling 1000 ft is like falling of a bike sure it would hurt but no long lasting damage that cant be fixed

My changes to quidditch... Make the players wear HELMETS and other HEAVY PROTECTIVE GEAR. The game ends if you either catch the snitch or one team scores with the quaffle 15 times which would equal 150 points since each score is 10 points. Have a safety net or a cushioning charm at the bottom of the pitch to slow the players' fall. NOT MAKE THE BLUDGER OUT OF IRON. And that's all 😊
