Personality and attitude wise, yeah they really are. The thing is that Matt LeBlanc and Jennifer Aniston HATED the idea of their characters getting together and felt that if it actually happened it would be totally breaking the show so fought back a lot on it actually happening thus why they only got together for... like two episodes in the last season then had just broken up and didn't try again. But yeah if you're judging them on just attitudes they would work better as a couple especially Rachel at this point having evolved some and you know Joey did feel like he was trying more with her in those last few seasons then at most other points of the show.

Yes, I love them so much. The reason I watched FRIENDS in the first place was because I watched the scene where Joey follows Phoebe as she is sad that she hadn't had the perfect kiss in "Tow they all turn 30" and he kisses her. It was so sweet.

For the sake of story line, do it or don't do it, it doesn't matter because either decision will have their own fanatic fans. The problem is, it left on the fence, dragged for one and half season long. Whenever this episode shows up regarding Rachel x Joey, I tend to skip it. It just felt draggy and not real episode.
