Not everyones parents are kind or nice. A lot of parents are failing today. So should we just let them fail because it's the parents responsibility?

Too add. I had to fight for 3 years with multiple teachers telling me that my kid wasn't autistic and refused to help me in any way. At the end of primary 3 I finally got a diagnosis from CAHMS and finally got to shove it in the teachers face. To then be told my kid was rude and cheeky when in fact that was part of autism. The way adults speak to kids, well he repeats it back and the adults hear it out a kids mouth and sees it as rude or cheeky. Then there also was another time that the teacher and the whole class were laughing at my son. That was his pov. When I spoke to the teacher she told me they were using oil pastels outside and my son had some on his face and looked like a native American and so they were all laughing 'with him' not at him. I had to explain to her that's not how he saw it and she was shocked. She didn't realise that he would have viewed it completely differently. Well guess what that's autism and according to guidelines all teachers in the education system should have up-to-date autism training. Especially! When they have autistic children at school

You can’t “teach” empathy and kindness. You can tell a child all you like to be kind but they aren’t going to understand what it means unless they come from a loving and respectful household. These are psychological traits that are hardwired into kids from a very young age. Traits that are picked up by observing their parents behaviour towards other human beings. A kid isn’t going to start being kind or empathetic towards others if they themselves haven’t received the same level of care throughout their upbringing. Children of narcissism will inherently struggle with this even if their spirit is willing.

Parents should be the main teachers of empathy and kindness. It should be simply reinforced in schools Teachers already have enough on their plates without taking up the responsibilities of the parents as well.

Yes. Parents are their child's first teacher. All the parents who want to pass the responsibility to teachers, don't know that schools are already stressful. Teach ur children the right thing

I think a lot of the hurtful memes I saw of Liam before his passing were from young people. I don’t think young people realise or have the capacity to understand how much damage they do. It’s like the brain hasn’t fully developed to understand consequences

Teacher here too and I totally agree. I have just left the profession and start new career next month. Teachers cannot raise children, citizens and educate then all in one day its a joke what people expect from teachers and schools.

Not a teacher but a parent. Teaching is one of the most important jobs there is and I wish it was more valued. It seems whatever it is nowadays the reaction is the same "schools should do that" e.g. NHS dentistry issues so now many reception teachers are organising brushing kids teeth - we can't just keep loading more and more on teaching staff. Good ones are leaving and what a loss that is.

Oh for goodness sake. There are only 6 hours of teaching time a day. Why do all of society think school should teach every little thing you will ever need to know for life? Parents should teach basic kindness and empathy. End the pressure on schools. Scapegoat of society's issues. Its a cop out for other services in the community and parents and also TV shows like this. The media need to hold themselves account for how they treat celebrities.

When I was in high school we had a social emotional hour once a week that we called homeroom. I remember certain teachers did a great job teaching it certain teachers did not do a great job with the lessons. I think that is a school decides to implement something like this they should do it in a way where they give teachers options in regards to what lesson they want to teach.

Kindness can be taught but when you have a load of kids/teenagers in a classroom/playground there will always be problems. Education is important but bullying in schools will never go away as much as we all hate it. There isn't a solution people who think there is are deluded.

I believe nurture and nature comes into it. I also think having a pet or gold fish whatever can help develop empathy. When I was at infant school 50 years ago we had a White Rabbit in our class room. Probably won’t allow it now. We all loved that Rabbit. Some of us took it home during school holidays. I think infant classes have Teddy Bear that they care for which helps with developing empathy.

Everyone sat saying its the parents job. Yes it is i dont disagree. However not everyone who has kids is a nice person. Sure they might be a decent parent but the kindness end of things is lost on them because they arent nice. Ive met a lot of nasty kids and there parents arw just as nasty. I dont its fair that this lesson is missed on some of the kids who dont have kind parents at home. My son has autism and ive taught him nothing but good manners and thinking of others. He comes home everyday upset because he thinks about others feelings and no one cares about his.

Unfortunately, kids' parents are using anonymity to bully strangers as well. They also taught the I kids to do the same. I don't understand why strangers are bullying people they don't know nor will ever meet. Case in point: Harry and Meghan. Last week, I found myself in the HM hate rabbit hole. It is a very, very dark sight. Please don't go on. That is all I have to say.❤🙏🙏
