It's hard to answer that question because it's apparent to me by the lower-than-expected preliminary CFP TV contract figures and the subsequent meetings and decision on the CFP playoff format for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, that the fans, the athletic directors, the presidents, the commissioners, power boosters, etc don't control the destiny or future of college football or realignment. The TV networks do. But what's unclear to me is what's ABC/ESPN's end goal? It almost feels to me that instead of paying the inflation and upward value for the media rights to these conferences, they are dictating and readjusting the value of these deals based on their own evaluation and other metrics. The networks are realizing that the current target generation demographic is not consuming live sports like the generations prior due to more TV and streaming options. ABC/ESPN will ultimately dictate the faith of the ACC. Great stuff by the way Couz!!!

Personally if it were me, no one will like it, but as a K-State alumnus my preference would be Virginia Tech, Louisville, Duke & UCONN. From a BB point of view the conference would be an absolute powerhouse. I know the last two aren't that great in FB, but they have the major name brands. From my perspective this would put us in the NYC Market backyard, plus put us in ESPN's backyard. They live and breathe by UCONN and Duke. NC State would be okay & Pitt would be okay, but I wouldn't add them unless we went to 24. Then if they could swing it add Clemson & Miami to round out the conference. It's not likely, but those would be my targets if I was Yormark. 12 east, 12 west (you would probably have to put either Iowa State or Houston in the east. Most likely Houston considering they have a large airport making it easier for travel). Winners of each division play for the conference crown.

If the end number of members for the B1G and SEC is 24 each, the schools that you think are coming to the Big12 won’t be there to take. And probably 3 to 4 schools that are in the Big12 will probably be leaving as well. On a good note however, if the B1G and SEC stop at 20 members each and end their expansion, the Big12 is safe and secure.
@warrengque8 ай бұрын
I agree. The ACC teams that most in here are mentioning, are ripe for the picking by two big dawgs. The SEC and B1G are just laying in wait to see what happens with the FSU-ACC case and then will see who reaches out after that. If the ACC does go by the way of the PAC-10-Dodo Bird, then FSU, Clem, UVA, UNC, VaTech, GaTech, Miami and NC State are the targets of the two bigger fish, sorry Big XII.

TV ratings for Virginia Tech are terribly skewed. 3 or 4 of their games were on ACC Network which is not used by Nielson. I also think the U.S. News numbers are older. Most recent numbers I saw had Virginia Tech at #40 overall and tied for 20th of purely public schools.
@warrengque8 ай бұрын
I agree with you @VBHokie. ALL of these shows from other conferences underrate and under value VaTech and the rest of the ACC for that matter. Regarding VaTech as a brand and it's tv market, most try to only use Blacksburg/Roanoke as the TV Market which is completely wrong! VaTech's largest alumni bases are in DC, VA, Maryland and Charlotte. VaTech is the the most watched Football team in the VA-DC-MD tv markets. It's not Univ. of Md. and it's not UVA. I would also argue that VaTech commands a large viewership in the Charlotte Market as well being that it is only a 2-hr drive from Blacksburg. It's funny how the Big XII fans seem to think they have a stronger football conf. After Texas and Oklahoma leave, whose left? None of the remaining teams are national brands and other than Ok. State, none are consistently good. Since some of the people in the comments bring up academics, VA Tech, NC State, UNC, Miami and Pitt would easily be the top academic schools in the Big XII. The Big XII only has two schools that crack the top 100 (Baylor #93 and TCU #98) by comparison, Duke #7, Va Tech #47, NC State #60, Pitt and Miami #67 eclipses all Big XII schools academically. In addition, these same ACC teams with the exception of Duke would have the biggest stadiums in the Big XII and despite what most of you think, better football is played in the ACC. FSU can leave. Other than this year, when in the past 10 yrs have they truly haven't been all that relevant. If Clem stays in the ACC, no one seems to be clamoring for them anyway, the ACC can survive. Yall let us have WVU and Ok St and maybe UCF. You can keep the rest...If the ACC does go by the way of the PAC-10-Dodo Bird, then UVA, UNC, VaTech, GaTech, Miami and NC State are the targets of the two bigger fish, sorry Big XII.

At this point maybe we all just need a super league for power 5 and a super league for G5 and a super league for FCS. Maybe it should be done in an NFL format where the “league” schedules 6 regional opponents for you 2 permanent rivals you play every year then 4 “non-conference” games where the college can scedule home and homes and still play maybe 1 or 2 FCS schools to get the money flowing downward. That would make everything more “even” and be easier on the athletes and protect rivalries. Also every power team should be required to play at least 10 power 5 schools put of a 12 game schedule to qualify for the playoffs. 2 cupcakes a year is enough.

Could see Big 10 picking up Notre Dame and FSU soon. Notre dame is feeling the pinch in the new playoff system I could see SEC pick the other top two ACC programs. Then the SEC and Big 10 close ranks and adopt a nfl style playoff system and do away with division championships but completely cut out the rest of the college world and grab big $$ franchises m ESPN and Fox

If the ACC falls apart PITT will be begging to play the backyard brawl regardless of whether they get a BIG12 invite or not. The Backyard Brawl isn't going anywhere. It is too valuable to both schools.
@tarheel74068 ай бұрын
Why did PITT wait so long to resume that series?
@frictionhitch8 ай бұрын
@@tarheel7406 Because PITT used to have more value than they do today and WV used to have less. When football started YALE was the largest brand by far. Times change. The fact that they renewed the game is evidence of that fact. PITT needs to rebuild their brand. Rivalries help with that. WV needs to continue to build their brand. Rivalries help. Both schools will continue the game. It is good for them both.

@tarheel7406 most likely, the backyard brawl was discontinued over bitterness over how the Big East collapse played out.

IMHO, the ACC does survive because Notre Dame realizes that it cannot be independent in this new playoff era. Notre Dame will join the ACC since all of its other sports are in the ACC. Best fit: FSU, Miami, Clemson and Georgia Tech. FSU and Miami because they're state-funded schools like UCF and Florida wants to keep all of that travel and tourism money. Clemson and Georgia Tech because the BIg 10 doesn't want them and they're too scared to go to the SEC.

I would say the SEC and big ten will only take two teams each. That will be Florida State Clemson Notre Dame Virginia or UNC. But I don't see any team really been a good fit in the SEC because they already have the Gators and South Carolina. UNC and Virginia doesn't seem like a very good fit but that would give them a good TV market. Most of these teams would fit in the Big ten better but you're talking a lot of travel time probably worse than the Mountaineers have and most of these teams are already bad at football excluding FSU and Clemson. Travel time for Notre Dame would be fine. I think the SEC would be better to grab Miami and West Virginia.
