Actually that's a best case scenario, and our early schedule has all very winnable games. Ideally, would love to see Wynn, Brewer and Driscoll (or Jones) all get comfortable in the system early in the season, and then have the luxury of bringing in Williams in mid-October, and suddenly having quality depth on the O-line.

We should sign him. I could see him possibly filling two roles. LG and Center. We wouldn't have to rush him back and allow him to intergrate slowly. I can't see a problem with having a healthy Williams at the seasons end vs. the start of the season when we will surely need him.

Wynn is unquestionably the starter at LG. Connor's two roles would be center and RG.

I remember early last year there were issues with Connor Williams and bad snaps with Tua. However, after how bad things went with the line, if Williams can play, then they may as well sign him and start him on the PUP.

I think if both Connor Williams and Brewer can play, Connor should play guard (his position when he was with the Cowboys). Brewer doesn't fit at guard where you typically need more strength and power but can get by with less agility. Brewer's game is agility, so if he is playing he should play center. Williams can do either, but if you play the best five, both are on that line and Connor moves to guard.

I would agree that if Con W comes back he should play center. Brewer would be an option to return to guard (his original position). The good news here is that his agility would work well in the guard spot with our zone blocking scheme that forces OL guys to make quick adjustments with the feet and contact spots as they react to their blocking assignments (rather than have predetermined assignments in 'man on' schemes). Brewer's strength has been his run blocking due to his agility so this would work well, provided he can pick up his pass protection. That's the one drawback from the guard spot if you are below average strength wise. Another option for guard I would consider is putting new guy Patrick Paul in the spot opposite presumptive incumbent Isaiah Wynn. Scouting reports on Paul mention his strong leveraging skills despite his long arms which can impact power from the guard spot where contact occurs quicker than at tackle. He is raw but has good feet for his size. Most career OTs start their careers playing guard, unless they are top 10 overall pick calibre. Years ago Laremy Tunsil was this calibre (and a pure OT coming out of college like Paul) yet we used him to our advantage at guard his rookie year while standout LT Brandon Albert wound up his career there. I would not designate Paul to be a Tunsil clone but I think he could still do the job for us there. It would be invaluable experience for the player and would give us a potential weapon at guard.

I think so, for the right price. Hopefully he still can be the player he was before the injury. The snaps and holding penalties can be corrected. Gives the fins depth which is never a bad thing.

Yes.... although Brewer would be the backup center if Williams is unavailable, and Driscoll / Jones would be the backup at RG. Honestly, Eichenberg becomes expendable if we sign Williams.

Either way, we have two guys who can play center, which is something we didn't have last year, and it cost us dearly!

Eich can play against weaker fronts who can't generate pressure and are just going to get pummelled by our offense. Beyond that, he can't do it - at least up to this point. Many of us said the same about Austin Jackson before his breakout year last year. Maybe there is a miracle waiting for Eich to but don't count on it. AJ has had less time than Eich on the field (due to AJ's injured 2022 year). Eich has failed at nearly every spot on the line as an all around starter. I have little confidence in him right now overall and zero in him facing the better fronts at the end of the year. Give him another shot this camp but we also need to be considering better options, even for depth purposes. Oh yeah, SIGN CON W!! We need a CW back on the team!

I wouldn't upset the apple cart. If he can play one spot, he should be able to play the other, given he has played both in his career. I don't think any lingering consequences stemming from his injuries last year would contradict this. Therefore, let him do his thing at center for us where he just punished defenders for getting in his way. Then put everyone else in competition for the two guard spots. I would expect Isaiah Wynn to nail down a starting job and I would be thrilled if rookie Patrick Paul proved he could play at the other guard spot (Paul at LG perhaps?). Now some have seemed dead set against this believing that Paul simply cannot play guard due to his traits and pure OT college experience. But I think both of these rationales are wrong. Paul's scouting reports view him favourably for applying quick leverage (despite his longer arms which many cite in dissent) which is important for guards. In terms of college experience, many pure OTs have started their careers playing guard before switching to tackle. Highly talented rookie Laremy Tunsil did this for us in 2016 before assuming the LT role the following year. If Paul (or someone else) bumps Brewer out of a starting job then I could see Brewer becoming expendable (via trade) or simply become a higher priced depth guy. I'm ok with either option that way. Conversely if Brewer does win out a guard spot then I could roll with him to start with and go from there. But unless traded away, I think he will see some kind of action sooner than later knowing our OL history!

I 100% agree bring him back! Best case he starts at C or RG, worse case he gives depth until he gets back into form. But if he goes a different direction we still need to address the OL, who else is out there that can we can pick up at C or RG? This team is so close to being complete, it's always the OL that seems to be the last to be addressed properly.

Van Roten is the only other viable starting caliber IOL that I'm aware of. I think signing Williams is the best approach.

Brewer can only play Center and we paid him a lot of money for 3 years so they most like him a lot but I agree to bring Conner back but I think he now plays guard for us which he can also play at a very high level

Not true, Brewer can also play guard. However, it might be better to play Brewer at C and Connor at RG. Hard to say... they can both play both positions, though. Just depends which one they think is the most optimal.

It all depends if Williams is holding some discontent against the Dolphins for not giving him an extension last off-season. If his attitude is good and team oriented then maybe a good idea to try to work something out, more of a safety net. 🐬🆙️

I would only bring him back if he is 100% committed and there's no carry over of bad blood from not giving him an extension last off-season. For the right price he can start off as the back up center gradually working his way back to full health. Then start him. 🐬🆙️

100% agreed. After Williams was gone on that Titans game Miami stopped running inside the tackles, Tua suffered way more...remember how they were running against BUF? It affected McDaniels's offense way too much.

Why do we need 2 guards? We have Wynn at LG... he was great when healthy. There's no way we're signing 2 O-linemen. It will be either Williams or Van Roten, if we sign any. We have Jones and Driscoll at RG for now, and both are viable starters if needed... but would be nice to upgrade.

from what i've seen, brewer isn't really viable at guard. even though williams is better than brewer, williams is also better than anyone else we'd have playing guard too. plus wynn will eventually go down, so it could be williams brewer jones/driscoll.

Miami has shown consistently that in December injuring decimate our run game, our secondary and oline… it’s happened for several years now… at this point Miami needs to already plan on a team A and Team B for the second half of the season and add the depth accordingly.

I still love Williams intelligence and aggression. I think it’s a useful investment. I don’t think he’ll be ready by 1st week, but if he shows signs that the knee is progressing, I’d invest 3-4 mil, with an option (if acceptable and with good incentives) to bring him back the following year for more. I like Brewer - different player and his skills align with what Dolphins are trying to do. You really can’t have too many good players in the middle. Can you say with confidence that Winn will make it to week 18? Between Brewer and Williams, you’d have coverage.

Well I'd like that too. And have him cover center if necessary. Still I think he gets out played by Jack Driscoll at RG. Maybe he can win LG over Wynn. Either way if we brought him in he'd help give valuable depth and compete across the line.

@@cnelsonlv99 The heck are you talking about dud. Driscoll has a +70pff in both run and pass whenever he was deployed at guard. Williams wants to play center and has adapted there. So yeah I'd have him and Brewer compete there once he returns from injury. And Wynn is probably the biggest ? On our Oline because he played ok but not great last year before injury. I think he has a lot of potential but to say he is miles ahead of Driscoll is just dim.

based on Doug from last year, his snaps are terrible and we should get a REAL center...we sign a "real" center, and now Doug wants the injured "not real" center 👽. I'd be happy if we sign him and put him back at Guard, and keep Brewer at C...that would get Eichenberg out of the starting lineup, and put him as 3rd/4th option at Center meaning it would be less likely he would be going in at that spot, and would be a backup at other positions.
