Should we prepare for world war 3?

The signs are not good. We have wars and unrest raging around the world. Should we start taking the idea that we could become immersed in WW3 more seriously? The Swedish government certainly think so based on the leaflet they just sent out to all households. If we are to prepare what should we be doing? I discuss the issue and the sensible steps we can all take to keep ourselves and our families safe in these uncertain times..

Better still be prepared and then live your life. I doubt many people thought that the recent health event could happen even though historically it has all happened many times before. And thought I had become part of a self-sustaining community during COVID (other anti-lockdown people I met at demos etc.) but so many of them also turned out to be highly exploitative. ☹️ It was soul destroying quite frankly. I'm not really a hardcore prepper but I think that where you live and the conditions you face year round is a pretty important thing when looking at all of this. If you have to spend huge amounts of resources to keep you alive due to rubbish weather for part of the year then you're already on the back foot imo. Also how our property is set up can be a huge part of it. I only really started thinking about prepping when the health issue was starting but probably about 90% of what we needed we already had due to the property we have and the fact that I'm into camping/fishing/4wd'ing anyway. Really all I had to do was store some food and other supplies and we were pretty much sorted. Also keeping it simple and storing shelf stable stuff rather than fridges and freezers full of frozen stuff cuts down on the need for generators etc.

Very down to earth and practical. Bug-out is useful if a really bad storm hits your area and you need to get somewhere safe for a while. The kit helps you travel and survive until you get somewhere safe in a day or three. Big war? Like you say, stay with your known community, unless it's really bad, in which case there's not too much you can really do. The roads will be too crowded, mass transit useless. Keep your head and like you say, stay in shape which has enormous benefits.

Bit off topic, but...I have a Lithuanian friend who is in UK now but grew up in Lithuania until earlyish teens after it became independent and there was an effort to reverse this . Said it was terrifying when there were vehicles with loud hailers driving around urging people to move any heavy farm equipment to the streets around the radio towers to prevent them from capture - gaining control of the communications was an aim of the effort and it was to slow down military vehicles from getting to them.

Giving specific advice for certain situations is incredibly difficult depending on all of the possible scenarios so being dynamic and being adaptable is essential. Prep good relationships with your neighbours. Organise a suitable way to get rid of bodily waste for all members of the community. Use any perishable food stuffs communally first. Get root veg back in the ground, if that means digging a hole inside your house to stop fallout getting on the food until such time that the weather has started to wash away as much contaminants as you can suitably wait for and do not bury root veg anywhere near human faeces. No doubt the first few days are the time when the most modern systems will slip away how quickly you can suppress the impact the highest possible chance of survival will be.

Water filtration, long life food, stored water for sanitation purposes, heating options, power banks. These are the practical matters above all else. But don't forget your pets needs either and games/books to stay sane. The next level is if a war goes longterm or nuclear, defence against people trying to steal your provisions would be important. Iodine tablets, geiger counters and plans for nuclear fallout aren't far fetched if you're really into being prepared. Within two weeks of fallout, you'd already be able to go outside for a few hours a day. It might not be the apocalypse most imagine.

I have spare fuses, batterie, leads, plugs etc. I do have a go bag - in case of emergency evacuation - this is a different build and mindset than bugging out - which is utterly stupid unless you own some woods with a decent cabin! Then you're pretty well off for many emergencies. Then you can add on for comfort. I like you pragmatic view points and all are valid points. The only thing I would suggest is everyone's situation is different, so plan accordingly and realistically. I am a tool maker from the American Midwest, were manufacturing is still king. Barring a nuclear exchange wiping out Detroit, Flint and Saginaw, as shown on a lot of nuclear strike maps. People will still need goods manufacture during and after a war. Thus business will dramatically pick up and so will the need for jigs and fixtures to build everything we need as a functioning society. #mandatoryovertime. As for guns, again, as an American the "better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it" mentality comes into play. A 9 mm pistol for self defense, a 30 caliber for hunting (optional), and a AR-15 / M16 for the formation of a home guard / organized militia (optional; the US Govt has deep stock piles of firearms and ammunition). Personally, I feel in the event of a national emergency, I would be pressed into service working for General Motors Company or Ford Motor Company (again) building assembly lines for vehicles and factories for the war effort. Given my background and years of experience having already done so.

Having watched the video I’ve come back to comment this. I thought about it before doing so but here’s my take on it all. Apologies in advance if this comment is lengthy. I’m ex-British Army, I also have skin in the game in that my wife and daughter are Ukrainian. I’ve been back-and-forth for ukraine since about 2015. During this time prewar, there were many British soldiers in Ukraine, in an around, chatting with a lot of them, didn’t give specifics as to what they were doing but basically they were there as military advisers training the Ukrainian military post the 2014 seizure of Crimea. Now nobody expected Ukraine to put up a fight like it did in 2022. Myself included, I thought Kiev would’ve gone in no time at all. But it didn’t. And they put up one hell of a fight. Now this is down to 3 reasons as I see it, firstly the Russians were nowhere near as well equipped or good as They thought they were. Secondly Ukrainians were fighting for their lives. It’s very difficult to defeat an enemy on its own territory who is determined. And thirdly what have NATO done for 80 years? All they’ve done is to learn and train how to repel a Russian assault, and they’ve been giving this knowledge to ukraine since 2014. But mainly it’s down to the determination of the Ukrainians that Russia didn’t get where they wanted to be as quickly as it wanted to be. They had their asses handed to them on the outskirts of Kyiv So here’s the thing, Russia cannot beat NATO in a conventional war. It doesn’t have the equipment the same capability, and it doesn’t have the Numbers. NATO would find it very difficult as everybody in history has to invade it as far as Moscow. But as was learned as early as the first Gulf War when the Iraqis were using state of the art Russian tanks et cetera, the western tanks could outgun them by 4 kilometres. So conventional war would turn nuclear pretty quickly because the only way to Repel armies of the size we are talking about is with nuclear weapons. The Russians would not allow a NATO army on their territory. They would nuke it straight away. And that’s what nuclear weapons are for in reality. I am quite surprised that the man in charge of Russia has not already made some sort of nuclear demonstration whether it be an atmospheric test or something over the Black Sea, but Russia does not want a war with NATO because he knows it cannot win and it will become nuclear very very quickly. Likewise whilst they are posturing it is not in China’s interest to go to war with the West because they are too reliant on us economically, and they are completely currently opposed to the idea of using nuclear weapons. I think one of two things is going to happen. Russia will make some sort of nuclear demonstration, which will end the war very quickly because unless he nukes city, we’re not going to send any back at him. or the change of president in the United States will force a peace deal which may not be what Ukraine wants right now, but it will be better than them being completely overwhelmed and overrun which they will be eventually in the game of attrition I may be right I may be wrong, but that’s just my opinion and I have some skin in the game. Apologies for the length of the comment. You have touched a very interesting subject with this video my good friend. North Korea South Korea is an interesting thing that could possibly go pretty quickly. Also Syria is almost falling in the last week. That’s another scenario. But yes you are hundredpercent correct, the world is breaking out tomorrow more conflicts all over the place

Putin showed his hand when he launched the ICBM at Ukraine the other week, he warned all nuclear powers that it was going to occur because he knew if he didn't there was a real possibility of every system in the world picking up on the launch and counter launching all our Nuclear weapons at Russia. Also, Putin's children much like the children of the other Russian oligarchs live in Western Europe on huge amounts of cash in their European bank accounts far away from his totalitarian regime, would someone as vain and authoritarian as Putin really risk his lifestyle and position of power by effectively ending the world, how long would he be alive in his nuclear bunker before someone takes him out. All in all the Russians have been threatening the West with nuclear war since the Cold War, it's a play right out of page one of his Soviet leader handbook, he either kills us all or he doesn't and that's that, and just finally anyone who thinks they can survive a nuclear war without a huge subterranean nuclear bunker that has enough food, clean water and air for upwards of 15 years is a sandwich short of a picnic.

Ukraine could surrender now only to be invaded again later... And why would anyone want in on the Russian way of life, no surprise Ukrainian homes were looted.. Ultimately this is a resource grab by the Russians, the West dragged this on rather than supplying the Ukrainians with adequate materials upfront.

This is a cool and sensible video. I do though disagree with your assesment about being able to survive long term outside in the UK if you have an ok kit (Im not talking about a load of expensive gear either) and know the area. Its definitely doable. Even with family. The UK climate is actually pretty well suited to it, not too hot not too cold. Prepraring an area to an extent (shelter sites chosen, burial of equipment, pre understanding of food sources/wildlife/plants/water etc) is sensible also. I am on with it. Its possible to survive for extended periods off the environment in the UK and I would suggest it will be prefrable to urban environments once people become terrified and hungy and the survival of the fittest, or nastiest becomes the game.

You made some very good points.I think having a bunker could be a mistake because with icbm's going off in Russia,China,USA,etc., seaquakes and earthquakes will be triggered all over the planet and if you are in an underground bunker water might come flooding in or cut off the air supply.I will buy some water filters.Excellent subject. Thanks for making the video.

Let's say today you are at work one day and the electricity goes out and does not come back on. Now you are in a community of people (whether rural or urban) who are in the same boat as you. The internet and communications are down. The water becomes stagnant in a matter of days. All your refrigerated and frozen food will rot. Forget so-called pandemics, disruption of sewage infrastructure will cause major public health issues. This got me drilling down further. Am I even going to let my own family know where my stash is, on pain of friends and friends of their friends knowing about it? Do I let their kids starve? When I read about Hurricane Katrina or the Siege of Sarajevo and what happens when the government doesn't/cannot help I shudder. I don't even want to go there. Though I still think communities of like-minded people would help each other. My very first priorities are: 1. What will I drink? 2. What will I eat? 3. How will I bathe? So maybe I would think about long term food that wont go bad, a water filtration system and maybe containers to collect rain water. >water >food >alcohol/cigarettes/sweets for bartering >ways to defend yourself >light sources/fire starters/cigarette lighters >medicine (of all kinds) >tools for cutting, chopping, splitting, moving, etc are preferred too. >situational awareness - learn about your neighbours, particularly areas lacking civic pride etc. This got me drilling down further. Good video. I agree, in the event of a nuclear conflict, I would be done for too as I live not so far from Lakenheath and Mildenhall. Have you seen the film 'Treads?' - it is a terrifying depiction of what a nuclear strike and the aftermath would be like. I am not exactly a prepper but I try to have power banks charged, lots of candles and enough food for a few weeks - just powdered stuff (Huel). We also have sleeping bags, torches and a wind up radio and importantly know where they all are. I live in a rural environment, and even if there were to be a power cut for several days (t's happened before here), all this would come in handy. I think it's wise to be prepared at some level for any event, not just conflict. I have wondered about the EMP threat too - not involving areas targeted directly, but taking out all of the electronics by detonating a nuke high in the atmosphere.

Also, If you can afford it, useful to have a bit of petty cash - had situations here where the shops can only take cash, or where my cards have been blocked due to fraud. Going up to conflict level, again, depending on whether you can afford it, may be useful to have a few gold sovereigns.

I get your point on "bag out" but it is always wise to be prepared for EVACUATION from point A to point B - on foot as well. There are scenarios where leaving your home saves your life. Gun - it's always a good idea to have it at home. Not to fight military, but to scare off scavengers. After all your supplies mean nothing if someone will just violently take them from you. I'll add my advice as well: DON'T USE CAMO/MILITARY clothes. Look clearly like a civilian - otherwise you put a target on your back and can be killed either by friendly or hostile military.

When people think of nuclear war they think mutually assured destruction, that’s worst case scenario. What’s more likely is a limited nuclear exchange, one or two nukes lunched on both sides before calls for ceasefire/truce, that’s a very survivable scenario with no long term damage aslong as you are not in the blast radius, depending on the winds and if it’s a ground or air burst detonation you would only have to shelter from fallout for maximum 2 weeks as after about 4 days radiation levels should have decreased dramatically, possibly to safer levels to be able to venture outside, provided you have the correct PPE like cbrn suit, gas mask, Potassium iodide KI tablets, and Geiger counter/dosimeter to check radiation levels are safe first and a way to decontaminate you’re self. An even more likely radiological disaster is a terrorist setting off a dirty bomb. And an even worse scenario then a nuke is a nuclear power plant going into meltdown weather that be from a cyberattack, EMP, or physical attack. But yeah there’s many reasons why having cbrn equipment wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Obviously food, water, medical is a must. But a bug out bag is also important as it allows you to grab the essentials and leave your home fast incase of fire, natural disasters etc.. and get to a safer location, Bugging out is a last resort.

A full out nuclear war... Nah. No preparations can help you from that. When that is said. I always been a prepper. But a mental prepper. Like always make sure I know all the small roads in my area. And I needed that actually staying in the Philippines during lockdown and running out of medicines. Other knowledge, how to easily make primitive gear to be able to fish, hunt a bird etc. How to make candles etc etc. Stock piling canned beans? I don't have the space, nor the resources. But knowledge is free and easily available today.
