Though I would like to “build” it one day to shift and lock-up sooner. I’m glad I waited all these years to wait for the adaptation of the Aisen. I put a 2 disc “street heavy tow” clutch in my manual 6 speed. It sucks. Royal pain in the ass in stop and go city traffic. Hard to get into 1st, noisy, rattles the trans shafts due to incorrect damping for the engine. I bought a real truck for heavy tow (Kenworth) with a Fuller trans when I want to shift gears. Smooth as butter. Looking to swap in a built 48RE auto into the little one ton.

Now that I have seen a 68 out the truck I see where the issue is. If you drive hard you need know the weaknesses of your vehicle. Never let any trans shudder or slip, life is lost each time you feel it. This guy here has a ton of dyno pulls posted on his channel of various builds. He builds 48re's and tunes cummins as his main specialty. kzbin.info/door/3o64GuAIYSNUapF-IOBqDw ATS, FirePunk, and Power Driven Diesel are all known for making great out of the box trans built to hold power. Prices start at 4k and go up. Considering the parts list you are getting what you pay for. About a $1000 mark up for the build seems fair considering all 3 of these guys are very experienced builders. I hope you find these ideas useful.

I'm in the beginning stages of deciding what trans to put in my 2014 and it seems that it's $8-$10+ grand either way I go. Aside from a RevMax 68RFE 750 or a RevMax 48RFE (1500 hp capable) what do you think of an Allison 1000 swap? RevMax's fully built Allison 1000 is also rated at 1500 hp and it seems to be about the same if not a little less than either of the aforementioned, including additional wiring harnesses and adapter plate, etc. Also, what about the transfer case? What options are there for us?

Great in depth video man! I just picked up an 07 5.9 MC with the 48RE and only 62K miles. Sometimes under super light acceleration in 1st (around 5-10 mph and normally when on any kind of uphill) I get a bit of lurch, like its wanting to shift into 2nd. It's not going fast enough to need to shift and when I give it a bit more throttle it smooths right out and shifts fine. Any ideas? I'm just west of you in Baltimore, new to the area and will take any suggestions recommendations on performance shops around here.

I have an 05 with a billet TC and a Trans-Go shift kit. It does the same thing. Makes around-town driving a high-stress proposition cause I'm worried that something is wrong. I've been told that it's normal by Suncoast (These guys will have a tech call you back if you call them, unbelievable support, and I don't even have any Suncoast parts), but I still wonder. I've replaced the Governor pressure solenoid and the transducer 3 times because of shuttle-shift and fried solenoid or transducer. Used the upgraded Borg-Warner solenoid. No difference. Last go-round I used the even bigger, heavier-duty Borg-Warner from a GM application with an adapter kit. It makes the Solenoid mount horizontally instead of vertically. Hopefully this will keep my transmission from frying the solenoids/transducers. But it did NOT fix the lurch you describing. I believe the trans is trying to shift into 3rd too soon. My truck does it from 10-25 mph. I wish there was a way to adjust that shift point, but haven't found one that isn't expensive. I even tried a BD pressure controller, which gives the trans more pressure than stock under most conditions. Didn't help. Possibly because my shift-kit already increases the pressure. Anyway, I'm still looking for the fix, or shift-point adjustment.

@A1soldiersaint6 жыл бұрын
All this talk about "stages" is simply marketing. If you compare components and design the Allison and Ford 5R110 trans are much better designed and built. Allison for example has the largest stock diameter input and output shafts. personally I prefer the 5R110 due to the engineering that went into it ( IT WAS NEVER A CAR TRANSMISSION like the 48re). The 48re in stock form is not designed for long term durability and was one of the transmissions that gained Dodge a reputation for having trans problems. ATS has a patented torque converter that is really hard to beat, should see the inside of that thing. ATS has a lot of engineering going in to their products.

When you say 850 hp, do you mean at the rear wheels or just estimated hp at the engine only? That may be a stupid question, but I truly am asking because I don't know. I know some power is lost from the engine to the wheels along the drive line. I really love your videos & channel. Great info. I have a 2016 ram 2500 with the Cummins. I would also like to know if I install lower gearing in the axles, does that add stress to other driveline components like the transmission or transfer case? I just wonder because the gearing that is multiplying my engine's power is at the end of the power delivery to the ground. I can see how a massively powerful engine can damage any weak links behind the power source or maybe even a 4:1 low range could damage components down the line from it. I hope this makes sense. I would really love any information, you could give me regarding all this.
@TurbaTom7 жыл бұрын
To the wheels is how most of the aftermarket transmissions are rated. Installing a lower gear set in my opinion would reduce stress. Many trans companies prefer a change when large tires are ran on a truck

If you want a true bullet proof swap for even money put a built Ford 4r100 from ATS in your truck. Dodge looked to Allison when they were developing the 6.7 and it robbed too much power from the motor. This guy doesn’t know what the F he is talking about past taking a over built truck to the strip and breaking it.
