I don't know if I SHOULD, but you make it look enjoyable enough to make it a hobby - at least.

With the support of my boyfriend, I was able to leave my 15 year job as a retail pharmacist to pursue starting my own virtual tour business. I am so glad that I did. I’ve purchased two of your books so far and they have been very helpful. My business is just starting to take off and I know it will continually get better with more work I put in to enhance my skills. Thank you for creating those books and always sharing great knowledge with us. ❤️

Thanks for this. I’m considering making the change in careers to RE photography and had these exact same concerns. As a long time graphic designer, I’ve learned many skills (photography, photo editing, composition, video editing AND I have a Part 107 drone license) that I think would be of tremendous benefit.

Another great video Nathan. Read your books at the start of my RE photo career. Since then, they have helped me build a side business that I honestly can't keep up with. Time to make some decisions on how to build the business further and possibly transition out of my main career (airline captain). Exciting to say the least.

Awesome as always. Actually it's a good pep talk. During our current lockdown I have been practicing 360 images, drone footage and just getting things like editing actions made up on PS and LR to make things faster. Practice works!. My last job was 14 images - 1hr on site, the owner was amazing and had followed the preparation guide suggested. Still a bit slow on the editing side but getting better. In the end the owner was very happy with the results.

Thank you Nathan, I have been taking things seriously in the past month and been really motivated to actually go for it in real estate photography! I have done some practice shoots for my portfolio, and now I am working on booking my first few gigs in this discipline. I hope I can get to the point you talked about where I have to decide between my day job and photography. I think I know which it will be!

Great video. I like your videos. They are very helpful as I am doing my research in this field. I am interested in doing real estate photography as a brand new beginner. Waiting to purchase my phone, camera, and computer. Next I will practice and learn the basics of photography and lighting. (Such as your books) I will also need to learn how business works. This is a new journey for me.

Great advice! But how do you handle a job where you know you can't do the home justice in the condition that it is in (clutter, damage, etc). Sure, you probably discuss this with the agent - but do you turn those jobs away since you'll need to spend a lot more time during the shoot to do the best you can? Do you have a video discussing these challenges? Thx!

I am having the same problem. I’ve had a couple of builders and agents that wanted pictures of houses that weren’t completed. Not even a driveway, steps, or power. Dirt on the floor and work equipment laying around. These were higher end houses too and it looked awful. Things are crazy.

Thanks! That's a bit off-topic for this video, and relates to safety and other issues as well. I talk about some of this in my business techniques book (link in description for the video). But it boils down to what you feel safe to shoot, and what you want to shoot. I shoot unfinished homes and construction sites, and dress appropriately, since this is a common request by builders (for before or in-process shots). If a home is unclean, then that too is in my business techniques book, in particular, when referring to checklists and the chapter on safety. You can see that info on my website as well. If you encounter a home that, for whatever reason you do not feel safe entering or setting up your gear, then kindly decline.

This video spoke to me directly, as I am transitioning into real-estate photography. I plan to upgrade from my d5200 to either a used Z6 or the Nikon D4 which I'm getting getting good price on that's the same price as the used z6. What can you recommend between the two? Also do I need a camera with dual memory card alots?

Since you are transitioning to real estate photography I'd recommend downloading at least e-book #1 (interiors) in my real estate photography series, which answers not just "what" but the "whys" behind gear choices (and more), and how to apply gear and skill for this particular genre. Here's a link to the series if you'd like to check that out: amzn.to/36nkZsO

Hello Nathan, Thank you for putting these videos together. I am interested in RE photography, and this video is helpful in motivating me to pursue my passion as a career. I have many questions, but was wondering how you present your screen when you’re doing a video. i.e. when you are showing how to edit a photo, only your screen is showing. How is this accomplished? Thank you! Ben
