@@Typical_Garage Not the throttle body. They go up through the intake valves from reversion. Every 4 cycle engine has reversion, some more than others. A good example is direct injection engines. Look up, carbon build up in direct injection engines. A major problem with them is carbon build up in the intake tract and on the back of the valve, because there isn't any fuel hitting the valve, to clean it, it builds up a lot more than other fuel systems. Sucks the carbon up, just like it would, rust.
@Typical_Garage
@Typical_Garage 5 күн бұрын
@@funfun8095 I always thought carbon build up was byproduct of crank ventilation which is why guys run catch cans.... I feel like the argument against rust falls short once you consider every car manufacture uses cast manifolds which do rust so if rust was a catastrophic issue, these oem cast manifolds shouldn't exist, right?

Mild steel has never given me issues like stainless has, it’s so much more user friendly. You can weld up a 1/4” gap with flux core and rusty exhaust pipe and it’ll never fail, but if you breathe the wrong way a stainless pipe will crack and if the gap isn’t non-existent when welding you’re gonna have a bad time

Weight really has to do with the wall thickness, too. Same wall thickness, with any metal, usually weighs the same. Like chrom moly. CM is lighter than mild steel, it just has a thinner wall thickness per cage rules. .083 CM vs .120 MS. The Chinese stainless we get is lighter, because it's thinner than the MS. Cut a 1 foot section of each and weigh them, then measure the wall thickness. ;)

"mild steel rusts"...... Sure it does, eventually. You think a 16g mild steal hotside is sitting with a bunch of water in or on it? Look at EGT, won't be moisture inside or out and it's not like these damn things are sitting caked in road salt
@funfun8095
@funfun8095 5 күн бұрын
@@raider9170 Running e85 or methanol your hot side will rust in a week. Watch turbo john, when he was running MS. He first run after sitting for a week, he would blow rust out of the exhaust. He now runs SS Salt has nothing to do with the moisture inside the pipes.
@funfun8095
@funfun8095 6 күн бұрын
MS is not more durable. That's why you really need to run SS and as thick as you can get, with turbo system. MS breaks down a lot faster with high heat, especially in turbo applications. If you run a whole season, hard, with MS your headers/system, will be worn out, by the end of the year. I have a lot of friends that have done it. 2 of them tried MS on their turbo kits and one had to replace his after 8 months and the other's broke when he went back on in the spring. They both went SS and have been fine, going on 3 years now.
@raider9170
@raider9170 5 күн бұрын
This makes no sense at all. The only reason this would be is if they took a lot more care making the SS hot side. Please elaborate on what you mean by "Ms breaks down a lot faster" ...... Metallurgically speaking. Average IAT on a turbo car are far less than the temp necessary to harden MS and MUCH hotter than a temp that would let moisture collect..... So what are you talking about? I have done hotsides in mild for people that have gone anything from mid 4s in the 1/8 to 11s in the 1/4 for YEARS without issue

@raider9170
@raider9170 5 күн бұрын
@funfun8095 I didn't say it was more durable. I said stainless wasn't mysteriously amazingly better and that mild steel hot sides aren't going to suck exhaust rust into your car and kill the engine lol. By your logic..... Why aren't cylinder heads stainless? Why aren't all blocks stainless or aluminum? Why are there millions of vehicles on the road with iron blocks and iron heads and mild exhausts? Who is going to tell them they're in trouble!? You still haven't given a performance benefit even though there are apparently articles all over explaining it. I'm just over here with Josh waiting to be convinced that I'll gain anything by doing a stainless hotsides that it significantly more expensive and significantly more of a pain in the ass to weld.
