I can’t wait to get into electrical. I’m 26 and have been salaried in retail for 6 years, but never truly enjoyed it here. I’m excited to start at the bottom and grind away to work my way up! My newborn daughter is really what convinced me to make the leap and do something I am interested in and something that provides better for my family. Thank you for the advice, man!

I got in the trade in 1974. Passed my journeyman exam in 1977 and retired from the trade in 2013. In all those years I was only out of work 6 weeks in the summer of 1975 due to a construction slow down in my area. 3 things I would suggest. 1 learn motor control circuitry. 2 hone your trouble shooting skills. 3 learn to read and understand prints. Quick story in 1976 while still an apprentice I was specifically sent to a job because of my ability to read blue prints. The electrical rough in inspection had failed 3 times and the master running the job couldn't figure it out. I was given 2 weeks on this building. Achieved the goal. Never knew what became of that master electrician after that

I’m 41, married, 2kids. It’s not easy at all having to ‘start over’ and be REALLY low on money currently. I am in the UK and started my electrical journey as an electrician in June 2024. I’ve started to gain confidence in working on a building site and doing independent work. It’s starting to come together now. There’s going to be challenges, but it’ll make you stronger. Go ask them to be an apprentice. They'll start you off and show you what to do. Or just watch KZbin videos like me and start actually learning stuff and then go. But you need to learn it for real like codes and stuff too. Not just change 1 light switch and think you're done. I’m moving back from living in Spain for a while, I just finished up a course which enables me here to either work as a basic electrical installer and or with solar panels, and I’m about to do 300hours of an apprenticeship. I’m also getting ready to move back home within the year to San Diego, CA. I know that things are done much differently back home from here, but would you have any idea if it would be possible to get some sort of work with the education I’ve got from Spain, or would I have to start from scratch? I’ve seen back home there’s a trade school that starts everyone off working as an apprentice, while going to class two nights a week. What’s your opinion on that?

How you doing Kyle! I’m really not sure to be honest with you, but if you already have your electrical license from Spain it possible they might allow you to transfer it. I know it works differently state to state, I would call in your local area and see what they would recommend. They might allow you to go to trade school but not sure if you would have to start all over.. Sorry I couldn’t be much help, Everything will work out. One day at a time..🙏🏽

What’s up Andres! Congratulations on graduating High School! You have a few options you can go to trade school for electrical if you would like or you could start with a company with know experience & learn like that. It really depends on your situation, if your parents are ok with you going to school it’s nothing wrong with that either. I went the route of just working with know experience because of my situation. I would pray on it & you’ll make the right decision. Don’t be to hard on yourself, You Got This!🙏🏽

I’m not sure where your located but in Texas We have TDLR, TEXAS DEPARTMENT LICENSE REGULATION which is the website where I ordered my license from. Look at your state & they should have something similar & apply for the electrical apprentice license, mind was 20 dollars and came back in a week. It’s just good to have so when someone hires you, you will already have it..
