I got in the trade in 1974. Passed my journeyman exam in 1977 and retired from the trade in 2013. In all those years I was only out of work 6 weeks in the summer of 1975 due to a construction slow down in my area. 3 things I would suggest. 1 learn motor control circuitry. 2 hone your trouble shooting skills. 3 learn to read and understand prints. Quick story in 1976 while still an apprentice I was specifically sent to a job because of my ability to read blue prints. The electrical rough in inspection had failed 3 times and the master running the job couldn't figure it out. I was given 2 weeks on this building. Achieved the goal. Never knew what became of that master electrician after that

What the best route you think I should Do want to get into the electric field but just don’t know to start I don’t know to do trade school
@TheApprenticeToJourneyman5 ай бұрын
It really depends on what your situation is, I think that it’s best to try to get with a company & learn on the Job to get the experience. But if you feel like the school route would be better right now that’s cool too. I think you’ll be fine with either decision, pray on it!🙏🏽

Computer, Appliance or motor companies. Helping with automation manufacturing. Or solving a problem and creating a product to sell and a company to source it.

Do you at least get two days off per week? Because I’m considering this trade and I’ve been working seven days a week for the past decade.
@TheApprenticeToJourneyman2 ай бұрын
@@xMister.Misterx Yes sir I do, I think it depends where you’re working. I know in Industrial they work 4 10’s & sometimes 7 12’s.. I guess it just all depends on your location!👍🏽

@@TheApprenticeToJourneyman So, just to be clear, does that mean 4 days of 10 hr shifts and 7 days of 12 hr shifts? Sorry, I’m not familiar with the jargon yet.

I’ve heard mixed things about the Union from other electricians. I’ve heard that they won’t allow you to work on certain things until you’re a certain year into your apprenticeship.. I mean how are you supposed to learn if you can’t put your hands on it.. I have heard the pay is good though!👀👍🏽
@joshlavecchia988810 ай бұрын
@@TheApprenticeToJourneymanjoin the union once you are a higher level apprentice, or journeyman. If there’s lots of work in your area you won’t regret it. I believe starting non union for a smaller company is definitely the best way to start as you get your hands on lots of different work, all the time, it’s not always the same thing everyday and you’re on 1-2 man jobs all the time so u will always be learning.
