I purchased a Toyota Crown Limited in April of this year. Having driven it for 6 months, I can confidently say that I love this car. It drives so smooth, it's comfortable, very fuel efficient (compared to my previous ford edge sport), and it is technologically advanced. I am consistently getting 46-52 mpg on my daily drives to and from school, which is fantastic. I live about 45 minutes from the university, so I needed an economical car to cut down on gas expenses. The crown has certainly done that for me. The real selling point for me though was the overall design of the car. It's stunning, bold, and so unique. I opted for the heavy metal color which in my opinion is one of the best looking silver colors I've seen on a car. It's dynamic and multifaceted in different lighting conditions. I know this car is being marketed for an older demographic, which I do not understand to be honest. Being 25, I think the overall design of the car is appealing to young adults. At least it definitely was for me when I was looking for a new car to purchase. I test drove many Hondas, Hyundais, Kias, and even a Tesla. But none of them compared to the feeling when I arrived at the toyota dealership and saw the crown for the first time. It instantly caught my eye. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase. This is my first ever Toyota and I am very satisfied with the brand thus far.

Hi Mr. Car care, I was wondering if you could answer the difference between the models? I live in Canada and the choices are crown XLE, crown XLE with limited package and the crown max. I am a senior in my 70’s and was thinking about a crown, the prices are very high, almost too high. My choice would be the XLE Limited, if I bought one, or a new Camry XlE hybrid. I now have a 2018 Camry XLE hybrid with 85000 km, just over 50,000 miles. I really enjoy watching your shows, enjoy that you tell it like it is. Looking forward to your comments, and ideas of best thing to do.

Well I drive a Toyota Sienna hybrid van commercially several hours a day. It’s amazing. These things idle for hours and then hours on the road at 75 mph with up to 5 guys in it. Thing gets 32.5 mpg average. Has plenty of power and AWD. I have seen some in the fleet with 227k miles on them and they drive like the new ones. They never break down. They go and go and mileage is amazing. I never liked hybrids but now I am very impressed. If these Crowns are anything like the Sienna vans I would like to have one. I bought a new Subaru Forester Wilderness and love it but the mileage is not good. Get like 18 to 20 mpg in the few miles I have been driving it. The big Toyota van gets double the gas mileage and that’s with a lot of idling and loaded up with all the passengers. It’s just amazing technology and the reliability is amazing as well.

After seeing this video, I’m resolved to enjoy my 2001 Prius that much more. You’ve said in the past to avoid the first generation Prius but I found mine from the original owner with a high voltage battery failure after 177k miles and 22 years of her ownership. Records show everything she’s done to maintain it and surprisingly it’s on its original brakes & rotors, original factory everything except the battery, as I’ve overhauled it with 38 cells from a 2022 battery. 403 miles driven on 9 gallons of fuel my first tank after overhauling the battery, I couldn’t be happier. It’s not pretty but it does the job.

I have owned my fair share of vehicles for all the wrong reasons through the years. I have found most vehicles to be uncomfortable to drive as I’m over 6’ tall or I wasn’t happy with them for some reason or another. Buy, be discontent, sell, repeat was my vehicle life. It was draining to my soul. I was critical and miserable. When I found this 2001 Prius for $750, I towed it away determined to find every possible reason why I appreciated it without criticism or pride involved. A car is a tool after all, like a rake or lawnmower. Why should a badge, seat material or external design matter? The more I have worked on it, the more I appreciate it for what it is - a building block of engineering that was the foundation for the modern hybrid. Even the newest 2024 Land Cruiser is being built using the same battery chemistry two decades later. My 2001 Prius is a classic that runs smoothly, is comfortable, is deathly quiet in electric mode for about 1.5 miles at a time and above all, I don’t have a car payment and my total expenses to drive and own it are below $100 a month. I’ve had car payments. I’ve been upside down on vehicle loans before. Never again as long as this thing gets me from A to B.

Hi AMD, thank you for the wide-open honest review of the Crown and differences between the models drivetrain. I was so struck by the 0W-8 oil cost that I had to see how much the oil cost cut into savings in fuel. At nationwide average $3.87/gallon, the XLE or Limited would use 39.3 gallons less between 5000 mile oil changes or $152 less in fuel. The oil (0W-8) costing about $15/quart more (assuming 5 qts/change) is about $75 more expensive than very good Mobil1 0W-20 EP (that I use in wife’s minivan). So half of the fuel savings in XLE or Limited is lost to the oil cost! Thank you again for the excellent reviews!!

The WORST thing right off the bat is the 21 inch rims. I have a 2013 Venza with 20s and the ride is rough! I can feel every bump, and when I do, it's harsh. My old Highlander with 16s and even my 2002 Tacoma with 16s may have had a "floaty" ride, but they were comfortable to ride on any street.
@richscott2483
@richscott2483 Жыл бұрын
The Crown is a Clown, better off with a Lexus. When your tires have less side wall, you do notice the difference in comfort and handling. Bigger isn't always better. Newer isn't necessarily better as there was a time when the old stuff was made with quality, and craftsmanship, to last. Today it's a consumable market of buys and throwaways as repairs and DIY is the pastime. Everywhere is a landfill or place of hazardous waste/materials. The ocean is the largest dumping ground, it killing whales and more. I have a Camry, did not like the Avalon and why would I like the Crown. Enjoy life, and get a vehicle that suits you well that won't break the bank. If you happen to buy a new vehicle and plan on keeping it for 5 to 6 plus years then get the 10-year VSA - warranty. You can call any dealership in the USA to get a Warranty Quote. Most times your place of purchase dealer/financial manager will quote you a price of more than $2,000 for a 10-year/125,000-mile $0 deductible warranty. Do not pay more than $2k for 10 yr/125K miles, so I recommend calling and shopping around for the best price. If you Do Not Intend to keep the vehicle beyond 5 or 6 years ...Do Not Buy A Warranty as the Manufacturer's Warranty for the most part will cover it. Manufacturer Warranties are most times better than any 3rd Party Warranty. Now if you live a few hundred miles away from the nearest authorized (for example Toyota) then maybe consider a 3rd Party Warranty.

The hybrid drone is NOT due to the CVT. It is due to the Atkison Cycle enigine (long stroke). The Checy Vega had the same problem for the same reason, but the droney part wasn't constant, as the engine had an ordinary transmisssion. The reason peeps find it annoying in most hybrids is that when accelerating, the engine is held at the most efficient RPM for both acceleration and fuel economy. Alas, it is also the most droney RPM. It is held at that RPM as the CVT (silently) adjusts the "gear" ratio as the car goes faster. I have had 3 such cars. A 2007, and 2016 Prius and a 2017 Prius Prime. The drone doesn't bother me that much, as I know why it is happening and what it is doing. Saving me money at the pump. I just don't like to hear it blamed on the eCVT. Too many also equate it with the DAF CVT (rubber belts in a tiny car with a tiny engine) and later Subaru, and still later MANY others. Totally different animal! And MUCH better. I am sorry to see so many going back to (as the one reviewed does) to what Honda called the Integrated Motor Assist. Peeps like the feel of the MUCH less efficient shifts because they don't know any better. CVTs with artificial shift points (to make the unwashed happy) really make my blood boil!

I remember riding in it back in the 60's and early 70's when I visited him and it was a really comfortable, luxury car. Perhaps, as you say, if Toyota is planning to introduce an entire line of cars under the "Crown" label, they plan on doing it to replace their Scion line that was discontinued? Only time will tell. Camry XSE AWD is a very good choice but depends on your granddad's health and height. Camry is low to the ground at 5.7 inches of ground clearance. If able to afford a Lexus ES could be better or look into Mazda. Stay far away from Jeep and KIA. Questionable would be the Hyundai Sonata or Tucson. The Crown is a Clown. Toyota overpriced this piece of garbage. Stay within the budget. Financing APR/ Interest Rates are much higher, almost doubled in 2023 than they were last year. Never pay markups. You can always negotiate the price, do not pay MSRP... you can get $500 to $1,500 less than MSRP. Besides the dealer not paying the Destination Fee, you are. Do not pay for tires with Nitrogen as it is a ploy or scam by dealerships to make you pay more. Do not Trade In any Vehicle, unless it is falling apart and nearly not worth fixing. Trade-In is like going to the Pawn Shop and settling with getting 25 to 40 percent of what the item is worth. For example, you paid $3k for a guitar 2 years ago, walk into a Pawn Shop and they offer you $750 when you could have sold it yourself for $2k. Do Not pay for a Warranty (Toyota VSA/ Toyota Care) if your granddad plans on keeping it for less than 5 or 6 years. A 10-year/125K mile $0 Deductible Toyota VSA can be had for less than $1,900. You can call any Toyota Dealership in the United States to get a VSA QUOTE that you are satisfied with and that Toyota VSA is good at All Authorized Toyota Dealerships. Do not get cheated and pay more for a Toyota Care VSA Warranty. Be aware that Interest Rates / APR are higher or nearly doubled in 2023 compared to 2022. Good luck!!!! Have fun shopping and learn how to buy a new car. Leasing is not a good thing unless you can write it off as a business expense. You think you are saving money by getting a Leased vehicle, yes! the monthly payments are low but in the end, it is like tossing money out the window.

But not for much longer. Besides with up to two years wait for most Toyota products, who cares what they do? I know 5 friends who dumped their order and bought something else. Mazda or Subaru for instance. Honda is doing the same thing it seems. Going down the 'wrong road'. It isn't by accident. This is a 'plan'. it is the future. Very thorough and well done review. My father had a Crown back in Japan and he loved it. I grew up with the legend of the Toyota Crown. Before he passed, Dad got a Lexus ES350 as it was the closest car to the Crown he could get. He still wanted the name "Crown" on his final car as the name ES 350 didn't speak to him. I have been looking at one of these as a homage to Dad. However, after seeing your review, I have surmised that the first reissue of the Crown in the US is a transitional car for Toyota. I may just wait until Toyota works out the kinks (mechanical and styling wise). Maybe I'll wait for the next update to the Crown.

I imported a 1997 Toyota crown from Japan earlier this year and after watching this, I can say that I'd rather drive that than the new one. Under the hood is a inline 6 (2JZ GE) and a simple 4 speed auto. Everything is simple. The interior and even the door panels are wool and super comfortable. And best of all is the styling. I'd recommend anyone reading this comment to go to Google images and look up 1997 Toyota crown. In my opinion it's such a great looking car and has badging for the crown emblem in the grill and C pillars. I don't know why Toyota decided to ditch the crown emblem when it's such an iconic symbol for this lineup. The crown is supposed to be even higher than the LS so it's disappointing to see the new one come out like this.

I'm not intimately familiar with hybrids, so maybe that is common practice. But I did read that about the Crosstrek. Because they put the motor in the transmission, they did away with the converter as it was and put in a planetary set.

@@jamesemanner9671 As with any vehicle, they would prefer you use what they recommend. I have heard Toyota dealers putting 0W-16 in these newer cars that are calling for 0W-8 because is simply can't be sourced in high volumes. In all actuality, it's not a huge difference in viscosity and some prefer to use a heavier weight oil. The climate where you live could also play a factor. I can see how people would be scared away from using what's a different oil than what's listed on the car.
