As I watch this video my 2004 (built 11/03)crv has 310,862 miles. I bought it with 235,000 miles on it back in 2018. I drove it to Alaska from Michigan in 2019 and it is still kicking strong. It is my daily driver.

I bought my 2005 Honda CRV in 2016. I got lucky because the air compressor went out as I was driving off the Honda dealership lot after just purchasing it.. lol so Honda put me in a rental car and replaced the compressor. I love my Honda CRV . I’ve owned it for over 7 years now and the only thing I’ve had to replace is the battery and tires so far. I stay on top of all regular maintenance . Bought my 2004 CR-V new. After nearly 20 years and 340k miles it finally needed expensive engine work. Auto trans still going strong. I donated the car to charity to auction it off. It was like parting with an old friend. 😢

The aftermarket has developed a piston type compressor as a replacement to the oem or oem replacement compressors. The oem are the scroll type which do tend to fail at about 100k miles. I replaced mine with the redesigned one and has been running great for over a year now. It also does require less refrigerant than the factory specs so watch out for signs of overcharging when you do the switch.

The 2002-2006 Honda CRV 2.4L compressor is a commonly replaced compressor in the market. gpd offers two options for this vehicle: · gpd # 6512653 piston replacement for the scroll compressor · gpd # 6511495 HS110R Scroll O.E. Awesome review and I also have a second gen and they are comfortable and just keep going! I like the 4 speed auto trans a little better than the 2005-2006 models as it doesn't have the same tendency to whine. These are also great rigs to flat tow behind your RV.

I own a 2.4l sport diesel second generation CRV. It’s done 190,000+ miles. It’s been serviced once in about the last 6 years and even then it only had an oil and air filter change. I don’t even wash it. It had a new battery and 2 injector seals replaced which I did myself because it was so easy. It’s last MOT (uk) it failed on a brake light bulb, and the headlights had a thick layer of road grime on them. I drive it every day and I thrash it everywhere. The engine management light has been on for at least 3 years but it almost never misses a beat and starts first time even in the winter. Occasionally the accelerator loses communication with the engine but it’s an easy reset and then it won’t happen again for months. I love my virtually indestructible runaround.

I have the same Burgundy 2003 CR-V with 140k miles and it runs great, I've never done any major work to it. Just brakes, tires, oil and flush the trans and dual pump fluid. But these suv's have lots of road noise and I would recommend the 2013-2014 for someone who wants a smoother quieter ride. Also the newer RAV4s are very nice - 2014-2020 are very smooth. My sons have owned them and were very good suv's.

Got my 06 in 2020 Dec. Daily driver, drive it every month or two 1,500 mile road trip. Runs like a champ. Only thing is AC doesn't work. I had researched that this generation had AC problems, but did not care because where i live never gets over 65 F. Regular oil changes every 3,000 miles. I actually got a 2nd gen because it doesn't have a timing belt, has a chain.

I have had to do regular maintenance, and replace a few things, like an alternator, a radiator fan, VTEC solenoid gasket, but that's normal for any vehicle to need parts replaced. I don't use A/C in cars anyway, so who cares? And what did I pay for it? $3,000 cash. Talk to me in 5 years.

The air conditioning compressor can be replaced and installed on a Honda Stepwgn K SERIES. I did just that and forgot about the problems with the air conditioner. The only downside is the air conditioner pulley is a little larger, you will have to bend the aluminum tubes or make new ones. And you will have to take a slightly longer bypass belt

I’ve a 2003 crv with 193330 miles on it, I’m in the UK. It’s my daily driver and still has the original exhaust and no rust on the underside, now considering we have tons of salt on our roads throughout the winter that’s dam good! I do have the drivers chair rock but generally that’s the only fault, I have replace 4 sensors now but they’re cheap enough. Love my car just a bit heavy on fuel compared to new cars, but I can go anywhere in mine! Ideal for driving round the farms on shoots

@@maureenkreisher3421 on my old CRV it was knock sensor and 3rd gear sensor, on my current CRV it was APs (accelerator position sensor). The most expensive sensor was the APS and that cost me £250! But I’ve got I’ve 150k miles on, so hopefully can get another 100k plus with no problems 😊

I have 2005 CRV all wheel drive which I bought in 2008 from Honda dealership. It has 210,00 KM on it and still drives great. It has a remote start, I never had AC problem in 15 yrs and ice cooling in no time. Heating also works great. Besides periodic maintenance I never had any break down or major repairs. I want to buy a new SUV but they are very expensive to finance and I am also retiring in two three years.

Excellent vehicle I had my crv 2nd generation for 8 years. I bought it 2nd hand it was 10 when I got it. It's probably the oldest car I've had but there was no major mechanical issues. We just recently upgraded to the newer model but I strongly recommend the mark 2.

If every one of all the old and new generations was in the store with the same price, i would go with the 2 generation cr-v manual gearbox every time. They are much better than the newer ones in my opinion. I bought one of them from a guy who didn't care about maintaining it. Engine still works like new. im currently doing the clutch on it. was easier than i thought it would be and is actually the first time i have ever done that on a car. and the AC is not needed that much because the climate in my area is not really that hot most of the year. Don't be too scared of the miles, most important is its condition and you don't wnat to buy it if it has alot of rust

I bought my 04 crv 5 speed manual AWD 133k miles for THREE GRAND all original parts and the car was sitting for some time I’m third owner. I love this car so much Iv rebuilt the entire front end suspension and brand new clutch kit this car has never failed me other than the a/c compressor..😅 spent lots of money on they unfortunately BUT IS DRIVEABLE I found a perfect size built that runs without the a/c and keep it handy juuuust in case because I’m traumatized now. Other than that not problems whatsoever

I bought my 2006 2nd gen almost 2 years ago and really like it. Mine is an AWD 5 speed that was kept immaculately clean. It did have kinda high highway miles, 187k, but the service records were all there and the dreaded A/C death had been dealt with the year before I got it for like $3500. It is relatively gutless but gets pretty good mileage. I would love to add a supercharger, I think you can get one that’s almost plug and play for around 3-4K. They are great!

love my 1st gen 5 speed, i agree its the most practical all around vehicle out there. i like how the 1st gen looks vs the 2nd gen and im fine with a more simple non vtec engine, also nice to have the double wishbone front suspension vs the McPherson of the 2nd gen. mine just hit 200k and is down for some routine maintenance and upgrades, but other than that its been very reliable. i will say some of the stuff on it leaves a bit to be desired, but overall im happy. it will tow 3000# without a sweat, ive done it many times. a few issues with the 1st gen, not sure what got fixed on the 2nd: *wiper linkage is based on plastic ball joints and wears out fast *window motors are weak *mirrors dont go out as far and up as far as they should for a tall person *rust issues under plastic fender trim *rear license plate holder is very fragile and is easy to accidentally grab instead of the door handle, one time is all it takes to break it and ive never found a used intact one *1st gen engines valves must be adjusted regularly or they will get burnt valves, manual says 70k some people say 30k *timing belt every 100k is a must *5th gear synchro's aren't the most robust *u joints for the rear drive shaft are pretty small and non serviceable / greaseable, pretty common to fail. they want you to buy a whole new driveshaft too because the u joints are staked in place and dont have c clips. *why oh why did honda put the dipstick hole in between the exhaust manifold and impossible to see in any lighting situation

Not only replace the compressor. But condenser/radiator. Evaporator. vacuum, and flush clean all the pipes. Regas.

Hi there! Youre the one who inspired me to look for a 2nd gen CR-V. Meanwhile, I searched a lot on the internet and I see that it is a really great car. I want to upgrade it for overlanding. Install a 2 inch lift kit, drop kit, bigger wheels, and roof top tent. What I wanted to ask you is that when it breaks (and something will break eventually - like wheel bearings and joints), what do you recommend? OEM parts or aftermarket parts? OEM ones are much more expensive...A loooot expensive.. :D Thank you! :)

MPG is some of the worst for Honda (18-21 - sometimes lower, rarely higher). Terrible access in engine bay. Honda has discontinued various parts (eg: PVC hose) Lots of road noise. Wheel bearings are horrendous to replace. Not for off-roading, despite what ppl claim/do. Rear seats do NOT fold flat, although they do recline a bit to create a lounger. Claims All-Wheel Drive (4AWD) BUT, it's actually front wheel drive with (allegedly) electronic transfer to rear wheels if stuck/spinning (see 4:46) AWD is an expensive and unnecessary add-on (makes tire purchases more expensive). 1st Gen has true ground clearance; but, 2nd Gen ground clearance is reduced due to fuel tank Fun car but know its limits.

@@joepearlzz8504 Yes, I did change the oil every 2-3000 miles actually. They are programmed to run good to 250,000 miles and then one needs to start babying it. my car had 251,000. One day I looked at the dipstick and no oil showed up on it! i immediately put a wuqrt in and drove it 7 miles for an oil change. One week later a little knock started and it just got worse. Then, it stalled and sat for couple weeks down the street from my driveway. I flatbedded it to the city and had it checked. The knock was too deep to fix.

December 2023 now, the 02+ LX with 200k is averaging 3300, 220k at 3100, 240k at 2800. I have been on Craigslist for months, i love this generation of crv, and its not worth the price currently in my area. I would like to get one at 150k but theyre like 4500. The honda name has made this not worth it. I will wait a bit. If i can get one for 3k at 150k miles thats worth it.

I had a 2006 crv as my first car back in 2016 kept if for about 2-2.5 years untill it gave out on me I had a total 300,500 miles. Honestly I think if I would have took better care of it it would still be going. I miss that car daily and the mileage really speaks to the reliability of Honda. Crazy thing is I had only recently discovered the table and was like there was so much more for us to explore.

Mine is a k20 2.0 engine (Japanese version imported to st Lucia) still runs nicely My driver seats rocks a little I still have the same ac compressor someone stopped me yesterday asking about n ac compressor so I’m hoping mine holds up

Hi, planning to buy one for the growing family. Question on the AC Compressor issue - is it a design issue of this generation where if mine gets broken and i replaced it, the replacement also has tendency to break with the same problem? As you mentioned you’re on your 3rd AC now. Is there a way to use other generation/design AC?

I would say no if your in Australia parts are hard to get + shipping is friggin expensive from America but if your in America yes I'd get one as parts are easy to get over there.

Thanks! They are Road one cavalry tires. 235/75s. I wouldn't recommend them in mud tires though.
