I experimented with their HeroBook Air and their GemiBook. Both were pretty good machines for their price, but they both had the same major flaw-driver support. Essentially, if you attempted a clean Windows install on these machines, you were in trouble because things like Bluetooth, WiFi, camera, audio, etc., used drivers that Windows couldn't find by itself, and Chuwi also refused to provide them. The only thing they would offer is their complete Windows image. If you were looking to install a Linux distro, you were even more out of luck because not even the keyboard worked on the Air. And making something simple like sound work of the Gemi was a painful experience. So unless you really don't want to mess with anything and just use then as they are, I would get something else.

I just bought one of these a few weeks ago to use exactly as you said, as a companion machine to my main desktop, with the main advantage of the Minibook being the extreme portability while still maintaining a keyboard size that's still viable for me to type on at full speed. I use it in my car on my lunch breaks to watch youtube, play PS2 emulators, etc. It's been a fantastic value. Also, you mentioned the screen is 50hz, but I learned from a thread on the chuwi forums that it is possible to set the screen to refresh at either 60 or 90 hz using a tool called "Custom Resolution Utility", but beware, you have to use exact reduced mode, and some units may not be able to achieve over 50 and it may require a complete re-imaging of the SSD in order to get the display working again (or an external monitor I guess). It feels so much better to use at 90hz, especially for web browsing, scrolling through pages etc. Mouse movement alone is way better. Not everyone will have a golden sample that can do it, but if you don't mind tweaking and a little risk of having to reinstall chuwi's image, it's worth a shot for the improved user experience.

@@Rain_Addict0 Sorry if I wasn't clear, but they're limited because not every panel can hit 60hz, some really only can do 50. It's like processor binning, not every chip from a given batch can hit the same speeds, so they set a lowest common speed and lock them all to that even though some can go higher. I speculate that they ordered a lower grade shipment of panels and just put them all at 50hz to waste as few as possible.

It lasted about 2 months. One day the battery ran out and she threw it on the floor. I asked her why an she told me when her brothers controller batteries dies they'd throw them to the floor and she thought it would make it work. 12 year old logic through the lens of a 4 year old. Lol. It was a nice machine though. It even played old school minecraft. I would place it on a shelf at night and connect it to the flatscreen I hung in her room (32" 1080p, nothing fancy) so she could watch her favorite movie, Frozen, while she fell asleep. I set it to shutdown when the movie was done. She loved it for as long as it worked. She cried when she realized it was dead. But of course, I got her a wireless gamepad, mouse, and keyboard, a normal laptop, and placed it on the shelf permanently. It worked out a lot better.

Wonder if they'll release an N200 or N300 variant? The form factor - this has an awful lot of advantages. Short vertical height means it may be usable in confined spaces such as train seats, etc. where larger laptops aren't plausible. I've carried laptops since 1989 and can attest to the form factor, despite the author's misgivings about netbooks I found them to be genuinely extremely useful - was just doing some scripting on a 2009 era Samsung atom single core system under Debian 12 (it has a wonderful keyboard and is genuinely nice to use, albeit woefully slow). This thing seems - SEEMS - to be about the £315 mark which is actually remarkably cheaper than I was expecting for this price point, Aliexpress sourced pocket PCs with this chipset (or lesser) are going for close to this. The ram at 12gig is... odd... Seems related to embedded chip choices I'd say, 512gig SSD is more than I expected indeed, that said I can't see if it's NVME or just SATA connected. One thing to consider in the form factor - this can function as a slightly thicker tablet for reading, video, etc. and may suit women if you carry a handbag (so a full laptop for incidental use, that can be more useful than you imagine especially if you have a longer reply to write than is practical on a phone keyboard). Would I use/carry one of these? Absolutely. It can be used to capture ideas, test code concepts, undertake courses and most of all - use otherwise idle or wasted time with something more tangible. You can use it a viable companion/satellite system too (so big grunty laptop or desktop and the little one for carrying around incidentally when you don't need the power).

Update - You'll need a magnifying glass to read the text in the BIOS area. It has the lowest amount of settings to change that I've ever seen in a BIOS. I got this device and discovered a quirk it has with any version of Linux. It will (by default ) rotate the display view 45 degrees (counter-clockwise) - so, all your images will be sideways - whether you're working from your installer USB drive or from your hard drive final installation. You will have to do research on your distro or original upline disro - on how those users solved the problem. They may have you install some extra background apps, edit some system files - - or if you're lucky, the distro you picked, might have its own display rotation app built into the settings area. I was lucky - my distro had that option to rotate the screen - and lock it. So, all your scrolling boot up process text (including your distro's log-in screen) will be sideways - but after you login, the screen auto-rotates to the correct orientation. This device having a touch screen, helped tremendously in working with a sideways layout. If you don't have that touch screen, you're going to be driven crazy trying to move the cursor with the touchpad - it doesn't move in the direction you would want it to. Good luck.

@660hp9 ай бұрын
My experience with the netbooks was the same, hated the performance but loved the form factor, for this chuwi laptop I'm actually impressed by the performance, more battery would be better.

I would have considered it so I can have a small and lightweight laptop to use while doing PCs repairs in customers' homes and such, but I'm apprehensive about the non-replaceable memory. Until I can find a recent one, I'll just try to use my dad's old Dell Inspiron 11 with a Pentium from 2015 (P20T). That CPU is actually still usable in basic tasks in Windows 10, just need to upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8 GB and replace the hard drive with an SSD.

This is a nice machine, with better performance than I anticipated when I saw the video title. Other than that, I think a second hand Lenovo Yoga will be a better value. You can pick up a 5 year old Yoga X380 for example for around 300 bucks (or less). It will perform better (while not for games) and have a better build quality in general. Only if size really matters, this Chuwi laptop is not bad.

I don’t know, man, I think Iceberg won this battle. 😏 However I have always wanted a modern netbook to carry around for writing, and while I wish they had an option for N300, this might fit the bill.

Not enough to replace the 70€ laptop I bought used 3 years ago, might only be an i3 5th gen and GT 740m and came with 1 4GB RAM stick, it also came with a 120GB Samsung Evo and Win10 activated and I had another 4GB stick from another broken laptop I found. Amazing price/ performance just sucks that thing is quite a bit bigger than it´s 17" screen and on the chunky side, but for just 70€ (3 years ago) nothing to really complain about.

I got my sister a CHUWI FreeBook with the same chip but slightly bigger 13.5" display for a little less than $200. With 12GB ram and 512gb ssd it's good enough for reading pdfs and web browsing which is all she need. Only problem with chuwi is their battery life is way lower than their advertised values.
@michaellegg93819 ай бұрын
The intel u300 CPU would be a better Chip for such a device. Its more powerful 1 P Core with 2 threads and 4 E Core's with 4 threads.. its way more power efficient and has better performance being 5 cores and 6 threads with DDR 5 memory support and all the newer instructions set's ect.. its the same price as N100 chip so it should not increase the production costs (maybe by a little bit) as it will require DDR 5 memory but can handle duel channel.. its power consumption is way better than the N100 so it will run longer and faster.

This really doesn't seem like a great deal for a whole 370 euros! I understand buying new is going to be more expensive than secondhand but the performance seriously seems anemic for that kind of price. The 3 hours of battery life as well? yeesh idk

I have the chuwi mini book x as a super portable machine. The screen colour accuracy isn’t great and trackpad is a bit small and clicky. But for the money is really quite good… just don’t overtax the cpu ..L fan is actually fairly quiet

Small netbooks are awesome. If you have a need for a small computer, these are amazing. This is almost as fast as my main rig, it's insane running gta v on a netbook in 2024 :o

This small laptop has good specs, and I am in the market for a Surface Go type device but will never buy Chuwi again. I had a Chuwi Hi11 once and its charging port failed. Chuwi wanted the laptop to be sent to China at my cost and the turnaround time was huge. It was fixed after 2 months but failed again 1 month after warranty. No local repairer was able to fix the charging port as Chuwi used a non-standard circuitry which I could not procure.

This is an incredible little machine, but it is important to know if it can be connected to an external monitor, plus it should be around 250€, not 370€.

i bought one of these from ebay- its a tablet with a removable keyboard, an N4120, 8GB of memory, and a touchscren which is like 2160x1200 or something like that (i dont recall off hand) and for the price its AWESOME....i think i spent $150 and im telling you its nearly as good as the microsoft surface books i use at work except those have screens break CONSTANTLY on them....yea this is some cheap stuff with a weird BIOS but im telling you its worth every penny for those tablet things on ebay at least

having 12 gigs of ram in an n100 laptop is a blessing, my country gives out free n100 laptops to students from lenovo, hp or dell, but they always have 4 gigs of ram which makes the laptops barely usable ( you cant even upgrade them due to all of the laptops having soldered ram)

May I suggest including games like League of legends and Dota 2 in your benchmarks for devices like these? I'm actually considering getting one of this for out of town work and light gaming. Thanks

Hello, I was hoping you are allowed to evaluated this device using Batocera with emulation. I love the form factor of this laptop. Been looking at GPD devices but felt those were too small for what you are paying for. I was looking for a device this small, and 720p is just perfect as you will not see more resolution at this size anyway. As far as games on a device like this, platform games, Racing games, arcade flight sim, and fighting games are perfect on Windows, so I was hoping you could test games like Injustice, Street figter ones, Mortal Kombat. The only FPS games I play are CS2, BF3,and Valorant; nothing too hard to drive. Would be nice if you could test older versions to hopefully get playable fps at 720p.I don't intend to do serious gaming on the go, just looking for a device that can do most things at decent playable fps. Also would be nice if you tested Steam streaming and or Xbox/PS streaming. If all looks good, I'm planning to get this and a 4tb nvme drive; it should enable to carry all the games I play, and should be a handy browsing and quick light weight lightroom device.

12GB of RAM is an interesting way to save a little money, you dont really see "asymmetrical" memory configs anymore. speaking of money, though, you didnt mention one of the most important aspects of a machine like this: how much is it?

I used to use a Chuwi Intel Atom quad core 2GB RAM 8" Windows 10 tablet and it was good for the price of '$92' back in 2016.

It reminds me of my Lenovo 100E. 11.5 screen. 4G of ram only 64g ssd. It has a touch screen and can be used as a tablet. That only cost £110 new. I have faster laptops, but I love the size of it. No good for modern games, but I use an Xbox for that. It works fine for office work , browsing and youtube. I actually liked netbooks. KZbin helped kill them off. If you tried to use an Atom processor today it takes about 2 mins to load the home screen.

Thanks so much for your excellent review! Two questions... 1) I've seen reviews that describe the Windows 11 OS as "unlicensed"??? Is the OS clean or is back-filling / patching necessary after purchase necessary? 2) Is there any reason to believe that the computer might not be compatible with the MS Office programs? Thanks again.

This is really aimed at the geek who has everything. For about the same dollars you could get a slightly used 8th gen-10th gen Intel big name laptop that will beat this on performance. If it wasn't for the price I would get one just because it's so cute heh!
