Thank you for your video. Background. I've run many mixers for churches over the past 20+ yrs: Mackie SR32 VLZ Pro, A&H MW3-16, GL2400, Yamaha MG, 01/V (terrible), and TF3 (passable) Agree. I agree with you that choosing a digital mixer over analog is worth it because of the I/O flexibility and features (compressor). Disagreement. However, as far as ultimate sound quality, a cheap analog Yamaha MG will still beat any digital desk I've ever heard. Analog just has the headroom and inner detail that digital comes very close, but cannot match. Of course, less than 1% of the people in the church can hear the difference. Oh well. Analog for training. I think that training a newbie FOH engineer is better on analog because knobs (gain, EQ) are more visible. I also think FOH sound engineers need to train their ears more than their eyes, so I give the nod to analog. UI is critical. A live mixer must be first and foremost designed for speed, ie ease of use. Our church uses a Yamaha TF3 which I hate. Besides its mediocre sound (at best), the UI is way too complicated and slows a person down. The A&H SQ series' UI looks very analog to me (ie easy/fast to use) although I have never heard it in person. BTW, I wish you could put up bullet points on the screen. It would help drive home your message. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the message. Regarding training I actually think it depends if you have ever used a desk before. I think learning on analogue and then switching to digital is hard. If you have never touched a desk before I think it’s much easier just to dive into digital. I’m not too bothered about dials on a digital desk if it has a good touch screen. I find adjusting setting on a touch screen much more intuitive but if you are used to dials on analogue then this way of working can feel strange.

TBH presonus isn’t a brand we see much at all in the UK. Seems to be much more of a US thing. I’ve never used one so wouldn’t like to say really. Sorry

The Allen & Heath SQ series is a great choice. The QU series is also a nice transition from analogue.

I’ve not used the DM3 so I’m not too sure on that but I don’t like not t having physical controls. Yamaha seem to make a single encoder to do everything on their desks which I’m not a fan of. But that’s more personal preference
