I recently purchased a Canon 1DX II and it rocks. I'm very happy and it compliments my R5 perfectly.

Just got a 60D on eBay for $175 after tax and shipping. The camera has only 3k actuations on the shutter and looks immaculate and new. I'm very happy with it.

Considering the part of the world we're in, and our lovely weather, a big advantage of going second hand is that you can get a fantastic weather sealed body like the 1dx series for decent money. I just did a bit of consolidating of my older bits of gear, and traded in my 1dx-mk2. A bit disappointing to get so little back, but it is an old camera at this stage, and it was purely a backup these days just gathering dust (I'd hope someone starting out will get great use out if its instead). Since the trade-in value of my old 7dmk2 was so low, I actually gave it to my old football club, and they love it (and it meant they could spend the money on a decent lens to go with it instead).

The main decider is how much video functionality you need. Broadly speaking, mirrorless cameras are more versatile if you regularly require moving images, for stills only used reflex cameras offer a lot for the money. Personally I would avoid auction sites and private sales, and buy the best example from a shop or specialist reseller. That way you can get an extended warranty that will take a camera to the end of its natural life. Especially true of models that have a high shutter count.

Buying 2nd hand good maintained DSLR camera go for a top end models. but lower end dslr models the companies that repair DSLRs might have an issue in a shortage of parts to repair from low to middle level dslrs especially in European countries and that include some fast lenses

Man… I miss shooting with my 5DC. I was so obsessed with the way the photos came out when pairing with a 50mm sigma f1.4. I’m sure I could find a super cheap one to play with but that model body will be super used and hard to get some repairs done, when needing maintenance.

When I was looking for a full frame Canon, my choices were the R5 or a used DSLR. My pro photographer friend STILL uses his 5D MKIV. He said if I didn't care about shooting video, go with the 5D MKII. I did. The pictures it takes are more than good enough. If you don't know the qualities of taking a good picture, all a modern camera will do is take higher quality images of your bad skills.

Just bought a 1DX3 in very good condition for $3000. Since I was using an older 60D, actually moving to anything newer would be a huge leap, and considering my lenses are all modern FF lens from Sigma, they should continue to serve me well for a long time. My idea is that either the body or the lens has to be of high enough quality to last a long time.

Separate question, but since you were mentioning second hand gear. Have you ever had a go at the old canon 200-400 for sports photography? I remember when it came out, it wasn't even an option because of its price, but now that it's older I see the prices 2nd hand have fallen significantly. While the size and weight are a factor, it's probably not that big a jump from a 400f2.8. So, im surprised I don't see more of them for the versatility of that zoom (and built in teleconverter).

most defiantely not try a Z9 for a while and you will see how much better it is than a dslr!!! like 10x better

Lucky me, the Canon 6D does everything that I need since I shoot all manual including focus and one shows up on my local market place dirt cheap once a month or so. Shutter count you say? Who cares when I can drive 30 miles and pick up a "new" body for less than 200USD and sometimes 100USD. Who would have thought 10 years ago that someone would have no problems tossing a broken full frame body in the trash, even if it was a low end one?

I bought a hasselblad X2D ... even though I originally set out buying a DSLR... but the image quality doesnt' compare.
@Juventinos3 күн бұрын
what do you mean it doesn't compare? of course it compares. Mirrorless cameras do NOT have better image quality. Out of what ass do you pull this bullshit out? I actually have a Hasselblad dslr body that wipes the floor with your x2d. To have the money to get a Hasselblad x2d and to know nothing about photography is amazing to me. the major advantage mirrorless has over dslr is video.
@Sams9113 күн бұрын
@@Juventinos calm down man, you're going to get a coronary ... Nothing to do with the mirrorless aspect, the X2D has a better color and image processing than the DSLRs sold today... 16 bit color, 102 MP and HB's proprietary color processing.... this is why it's better. If you don't agree, then don't fucking buy one.

I am a football- and a wildlife photographer in Norway watching your videos regularly. When I switched to mirroless I said to myself. -This is like cheating. Why? Because the eyes of the birds were so crispy. So if you consider to buy a secondhand DSLR now and cannot afford it, try to save some money and wait for a while. Then buy mirrorless. Other reasons not to buy a DSLR; the autofocus is much faster, the sound of the shutter, more megapixels, the size ++ If you buy a DSLR for 2500 pounds now, in two years time you will probably get a 1000 pounds for the same camera when you purchase a new mirrorless.
