Nice honest review, but I think more critical thinking is needed in regards to *who* would drive it. It won't just be young families, but perhaps older people who like this car for it's higher seating position...easier to climb in and out of, yet small enough to drive and manage compared to a massive 4x4. Not all cars are designed for families with prams!

For women it's small size really appeals. I'm only 5' tall and it has a cozy feel. For a short person the tailgate opening to the side is easier to open than if it lifted up. Also, the white roof interior makes the inside lighter and brighter.

​@@matthewlee9728 I own the 2020 version aswell, since March. I haven't gotten any problems so far other than some noises from the glasses holder on the top of the car. The car drives greatly, it's smooth and, as long as you dont get reckless with it, it's not expencive to run. I've averaged over 15KM/l living in Italy in an area where we have a lot hills to climb. The main complaint I could have with the car is the 8" touchscreen with fordsync 2.5, got it stuck several times over the months, not responsive at times and pretty much had to shut down the car and wait some minutes to get it to work back again. And, as the guy in the video said, if you want a spare wheel you have to sacrifice a lot of back visibility which the car already doesn't have as much in my opinion which is a boomer.

The Ecosport is very NICE looking vehicle. Resembles a previous generation Ford Kuga / Escape (2013-2019) but shrunken down to 75% of the size.

Would I buy one? Definitely. Fords of recent years drive so well, my only concern is that apart from the Mondeo, which is just SUPERB in pretty much every way, the interiors are a bit of a mixed bag, both in terms of design and material quality.

Loosely related: i drove a 2018 ford transit custom as a rental to London and back. Along the A roads to get to the M62 from Brighouse it was a massive laugh. I absolutely love the steering. The steering is tight and responsive; something which is often praised in transits. I also do like the infotainment system, it's bright and modern.

I agree not suitable for a family, but as a single person living in an urban area I am really like my 2021 Ecosport. It's easy to park and can u-turn in under 18 feet. The seating is raised so easier to enter and exit. Agree the power is sluggish and definitely won't be spinning any donuts but I think it looks adorable, although not terribly "masculine" : D

Spare wheels mounted on the back of the vehicle have the following benefits. More space inside the vehicle. Do not need to unpack the boot to change a wheel. This is helpful if you are touring and have luggage, camping gear etc. The extra space inside the vehicle can have the following benefits: A larger fuel tank, underfloor storage spaces, a flat floor when the rear seats are folded down especially with only two rows of seats. The main disadvantage is perhaps the adverse effect on the cars handling caused by the high mounted spare wheel. Thanks for your videos they are interesting.

The 1.0 ecoboost is known to overheat the coolant and then breaks down anything plastic. It is in contact with i.e expansion bottle, heater matrix (as had plastic clip with an o ring in it), degas hose and then when low on coolant the engine goes causing it to be scrapped... I know from previous experience as my old focus needed 3 dagas hoses, an expansion bottle, a heater matrix replaced and then when the engine went it was time to get rid before the warranty ran out... Never will I touch another ford again

The EcoSport was a cheaply made, rush job. They realised that the small crossover sector was blowing up and they needed a rival for the Capture and Juke. But like I said it was a rush job, the fiesta on which it’s based is the best small car you can buy, mainly due to the drive. No idea how the managed to lose all the sporty edge the platform can have.

I'm on 2nd Ecosport. Just traded an '18 on a '20 model. I like it. FWD 1.0L gives me outstanding fuel mileage. I average way above sticker rating. I wouldn't call it a rush job either. Did Does need a baby SUV in America? They sure did! Did they have anything? No really? Ecosport is nothing new. Been on sale worldwide since 2012 as '13 model. Was due for an update and makeover in 2018 worldwide. Wasn't difficult to put US spec bumpers on it a d sell it in America. The 1.0L is a marvel of an engine. Won many international best engine awards. Like anything they had some problems early on with the engine. Those have been sorted out. Over a million of those 1.0L engines have been sold world wide. It's that popular.

Sparewheel on the tailgate more bootspace and easier to get off the car?. Your review is very subjective. Anyone on a budget buying 2nd hand- either buy a Japanese petrol or anything made by skoda, if you aren't bothered by much other than reliability and cost to run like parts you might need to replace and mpg, then that's it, at a push, an older ford like a mondeo will do and you'll get those cheap but has to be old and therefor probably bodywork issues like puffy arches etc but an old 1.8 petrol is a good buy if you can find one now.

I got one cause as soon as i saw it i wanted it but mine is exclusively driven by my dad and its been thru hell and back. Its very quick though. It takes lots of damage and keeps going were at like 100k miles now still going fast too with the turbo. But ours is very abused. I still loveit very nice vehicle.

One major disadvantage of this car is that when it needs a cam belt change the car needs to have it's whole engine removed and front end. It's a costly job!!!!!

Painting the roofs seems to be a common trick, when the new Suzuki S cross came out a few year ago they werent selling as well as expected, the company i worked for at the time aquired a large scale contract to paint all the roofs a different colour in a hope to help sell them, not sure if it ever worked though.

I think that the ugly looks work for it in a manner that it is supposed to be a fun jeep type car, the backend of jeeps were never good... Plus I think the majority of people icy driving around in these cars are people who want to drive around town, easy to park, but want to be higher up in the air, and of course be part of the SUV Phenomenon... My mum has one on HP finance with 68k on it (bought it with 40k). Its been fine apart from a weird grinding noise coming from the front right wheel on hard acceleration and misfires/stutters (which was from a loose coil pack cable). I always tell her to get the oil changed every 5k (since delaying oil changes causes the belt to deteriorate much quicker) but she downplays it ALOT.

Good reason to avoid this car is the unreliable Ecoboom 1,0 engine, and if it doesn't self destruct look forward to a huge bill when you have to replace the cam belt which runs in oil.

The driver position îs better in the Ecosport. In Puma if you are a tall person you will not see the dash instruments. I have a Ecosport, tried to trade in for a Puma mainly because the engine quite thirsty on gas. As he said in comments, the car îs not sporty nor eco. The Eco has a better interior space than in the Puma, so I quit on the trade in.

Thanks for the review, the wife has had a couple of fords with this or a similar engine , last yr had the fiesta st line , that was ok , but she now has a standard fiesta , however it is geared wrong , very long gears for the power the 3 cylinder turbo engine , it seems easy to get the thing to labour , it’s happy in second gear at 40, mph put it in 3rd and it labours and vibrates , I think it’s geared like this so at motorway speeds it’s low revving, and quiet, I can happily be in 4th gear at 40 in my 1600 turbo 4 cyclinder car just seems strange to me , either way take care and look forward to your next video Shane uk 🇬🇧

The wheel on the back of the door so you can have a four wheel and continue your journey as you have been doing, the only reason why they don’t is the most have space savers, the wheel mounted on the back of the door means you can carry a full and correct wheel and continue with the task you were supposed to have. If you put the four wheel in a normal SUV, particularly the new family ones that have been released you lose a lot of space

Lots of these on Motability which is OK as the faults aren't for the owner to pay for. The Powertronic auto (double clutch) seems to be improving after years of criticism and reliability problems but the engines aren't that strong and reliable. So many on Autotrader and ebay now as "spares and repairs" with engine failure. Lots of garages won't touch them. They are too complex and too fragile. If you park in a disabled space then the rear opening isn't a problem but in any other car park space it would be a real annoyance. From new on a 3-year PCP with warranty throughout then I'm sure it would be fine but I would buy one any older than that or any more than 30k miles.

A couple of months ago I got one of these - a 2018 Titanium with auto gearbox and - wait for it - only 5,043 on the clock. I find it well screwed together, very comfortable to drive and fairly nippy; the rear "barn door" doesn't worry me a bit and the boot is plenty large enough for my needs. It's a great little car, and a pity Ford have discontinued them - but as an old fart, this one will probably see me out.

This car is made for developing countries like India and Brazil where we need a hatchback on stills for the bad roads yet compact due to the space constraints. The door opening side ways was done because we have a wheel on the back 😂. They didn't change it for non wheel models 🤦

Yes these thing sold were in India when it came out but with dragon series engine which is a 4 cylender engine and a auto box but the 1l eco boost were never sold well as many Ecoboost were imported and has engine gasket problem

I'd love to dive headfirst into Bentley ownership. I'm considering doing that soon actually! I'd love to give up my day job and just do this, but at the moment I have to keep doing it to pay the bills :)

I've never understood the SUV thing. I've been in a couple and there doesn't seem to be much more room than the standard hatchbacks they're based on. Sticking a 1 litre engine in these bigger cars is nonsensical - the MPG will be rubbish because ..... power to weight ratios. Even the excellent Honda Civic 1.0 engine is nowhere near as economical as the 1.5. But, stick the half-word "ECO" in front of something and a small capacity, and it somehow becomes more efficient ......

Exactly! Quite often they're not any more efficient. You'd be better off buying an estate car for extras space

Yup. I also think a nicely designed estate looks better, but perhaps that's just because I'm an old fart and grew up around them in the 60s and 70s. I particularly like the big Merc estates. Most SUVs look like an unholy cross between hatchbacks and vans to my untutored eye - and the price premium is unbelievable.

Shame they stopped doing the B Max, my wife has one. It's a proper Tardis, reasonable boot, the sliding rear doors make it easy to get the dog in and out and loading in car parks.

Verte late to the party, Buy here are my two cents. Ecosport is a car developed in and for emerging markets, in South America (Brazil). Europe knew the first gen as (I think) Fusion. This Matt is driving is the Third and last gen. Car got killed after a very successful life, even inventing the small crossover segment. Never liked it, but it sold loads.

The Kia Sportage is so much better looking, not sure about the price comparison? I also think the Toyota CHR is much better but it's down to purchase price again. This Ford looks like a rush job when it comes to styling and I don't like the back end.
