Japanese gamers really know how to take care of their things. I don’t mind paying a lot for the stuff they sell because it’s always immaculate even the “good condition” things. American sellers will throw their 3DS in their uncle’s pick up truck, let it collect dust and grime and sell it to you for 300 bucks with a busted screen because they think that’s valuable. Oh and no low ball offers because they “know the value of their stuff”

FYI if you have 2 systems from the same region, you can transfer the nnid from one to the other. Then you can use cfw to swap regions on the empty one. This will allow you to have the menus in English while retaining eshop access in the region of your choice. I used this method to give my sister the region swapped one, keeping the second one for myself.
@car3448 Жыл бұрын
Do they have to be the same type of 3ds or can they be any? For example lets says I have a JP 3ds but I have two NA New 3ds xl. Can the region change be done?
@zaqueroberts1975 Жыл бұрын
@Car iirc, they don't have to be the same type. You would need 2 JP 3ds to make 1 NA 3ds that can access the eshop. Or you could use this method to change one of your NA 3ds to any other region. If you don't care about the eshop, you can skip the transfer and go straight for the region swap, but I think you would need to search for games/updates manually or dump them from another 3ds.

I got a Japanese New 3DS LL for $80 when I was studying in Tokyo last year. One thing to note is that even if you run CFW to play North American games on it, some games will still serve certain region-specific content based on your system region. For example, my physical North American copy of Animal Crossing New Leaf gets Japan-specific events when I play on my Japanese 3DS, leading some event dialog to being in Japanese, despite it being an American copy. This type of behavior is pretty rare, but just be aware that occasionally things like that happen. There's probably some way to fix it, but I know enough Japanese to get by and it's fun to get both North American and Japanese events on the same save. I just thought it was worth pointing out.
@sitmisfit4841 Жыл бұрын
You gotta mod your system and change the NAND to USA
@kbhasi Жыл бұрын
Oh my. That's interesting. I'm guessing you didn't do a CTRTransfer? I'm reminded of how region-locked Nintendo systems sold in Singapore were U region instead of E region, resulting in a long story for me but I basically wanted to import E region consoles so I could play the NOE English (UK English) localisations that I prefer instead of the NOA English (US English) localisations. However, now that the Nintendo Network is mostly dead at this point, I could probably get away with buying a locally purchased U region console and modding it to convert it into an E region console. However, I'd still need to be careful with the physical copies of games I'd buy in order to get UK and Australian copies instead of US copies, but I can identify if the model code on the game card contains 'EUR' or 'AUS' instead of 'USA'. Alternatively, I could go… somewhere… that I won't talk about here.
@raider4341 Жыл бұрын
I actually wanna see what the Japanese events in the US version looks like lmao but tbh if it’s not game breaking or anything it’s not a problem
@valegory Жыл бұрын
@@raider4341 It's really funny because the dialog for the events is only written in the languages the region it's made for speaks, so in the case of Japanese events a character will be speaking English in one dialog box and then in the next will be speaking Japanese. It's also worth noting that all the game's textures are the Japanese versions as well, so store signs will be in Japanese, for example. It's not gamebreaking in ACNL, so I just leave it the way it is since it's kinda fun to the see the Japanese events. Plus, it's good practice whenever it comes up. In the case of a few other games though running the North American version on a Japanese 3DS can be gamebreaking (usually the game will just crash at launch) so I've learned I just have to use the luma locale changing app and it runs perfectly normally.

@kbhasi Жыл бұрын
If I recall correctly based on a KZbin video I watched back in the day, New 3DS had a late launch in countries covered by the 'U' system region (North America, Middle East, and Southeast Asia) because some… people… at Nintendo of America thought that it would be too small for the hands of gamers based in the US and Canada. However, the New 3DS XL did launch in that system region. This was a problem for me in Singapore because the Nintendo systems sold to us here were U region rather than E region, and I wanted the smaller N3DS for its replaceable cover plates. I also wanted an E region 3DS and Wii U so I could play the NOE English (UK English) localisations instead of the NOA English (US English) localisations, but at the time I couldn't afford to get them imported. The region lock shock was also a problem for me when trying to play Wii Fit on a console my school had in their special needs resource centre as it asked for measurements in Imperial units instead of Metric that we use here, while my family members I'd visit in Australia had theirs display Metric because they could get E region consoles.

Late to the party, but I was skeptical about this New 3DS LL i saw on ebay for $79, seller was very fast and responsive even with a somewhat obvious language difference. Shipped in about 2 days and was at my home in the US another 3 or so days later. It was listed as very much functional but cosmetically flawed, about a 2 inch chip in the paint, which is even less noticeable in the real world than in the listing. Homebrew and region swap took about 90 minutes total and i have an amazing console for 80 bucks. Would recommend!

Seller had like 98,9% positive ratings and plenty of items sold. I would have though it was one time slip if not another japanese seller that sold me "new, never opened" PS Vita that had a lot of fine scratches on the back (visible if you tilted console in the sunlight). Obviosuly prices for "new" are 30% higher and you get at best mint item. Maybe its not true for all but then another seller from Japan was supposed to send me TPU shell and he sent me PC one. I had taken pictures etc and got it returned (seller tried to make me pay for return!) and delivered correct one in the end. Do note that Japanese (or Asian region) 3DSes are prone to yellowing screens, particularly on the corners and edges of the screen. Likely due to higher humidity levels in tropical climates. In fact in the video above where there are two 3DSes side by side, you can clearly see the yellowed corners on the screens. North America/Europe models are also susceptible but much milder. It's probably hardware 'ageing' but some say its just the adhesive used in the LCD panels. Thankfully it is not an issue while playing a game unless the game has a predominantly white background. I use one of my 3DS-XL which has the worst yellowish tinge to play darker themed games like Luigi's Mansion and Metroid Samus Returns, or games that do not have white menu screens. Just have to improvise instead of crying over spilt milk.

Japanese people are, in general, just plain cleaner and better about taking care of their electronics than Americans, who will get everything from Cheetoh dust to dandruff and soft drink spills and food crumbs all over their system and never clean them. Seriously. It extends beyond the electronics, too. Do you know that in Japanese schools you may be expected to stay behind after class, all the students, and clean up, rather than leave it for the janitor? The streets are cleaner, people's homes are neater - there are ALWAYS individual exceptions of course - neat Americans and careless individuals in Japan - but we're talking general case here. SO, it's not really surprising. I've gotten used things from Japan before and it's always been exactly as described, nice condition, often damn near pristine, as though they'd very carefully handled the case whenever opening, say, a Playstation 1 game, carefully avoided any scratching of the discs, and dusted regularly, such that the thing would arrive with the jewel case basically flawless. Meanwhile, you get a PS1 game from a US based seller, you're lucky if there's not scratches on the disc, a cracked case and so on.

I bought a loose US New 3ds XL (console only+ charger+ some games on SD card) on ebay for about $200. Right when I did that - a local one with games popped up for $180 on FB market place. Ebay has tons of them, but to wait that long and deal with the cons - I'd just pay the extra. If you could get a deal maybe the LL is worth it , but I did't see one for less than $160 after shipping, so I just don't think the discount is worth it when you can realistically find them for $200 on ebay or locally (most places in the US at least)

How do you know to look for dual IPS screens?
@hunt7533 Жыл бұрын
So uh, I was curious with my Metallic Red New 3DS XL and it actually haves dual IPS Screen, I'm pretty lucky for sure.

Do all 3DS LL systems have IPS displays, compared to American 3DS XL only having TN displays? Or did they replace the screen themselves?
@DeadAugur Жыл бұрын
It’s about 10% of N3DS XL’s to have an IPS screen, Japanese or not. Certain models like the yellow Pikachu edition have a 0% chance due to when they were manufactured, while later manufactured ones like the Hyrule edition are far more likely to have at least one IPS screen
@shawndasilva8 ай бұрын
It seems to be the same ratio as other regions. The bottom IPS screen seems to be the most rare. For example: I currently have a few N3DS LL in my apartment right now, here is the break down. Majora mask edition Top IPS Black Top IPS Lime x black bottom IPS Blue dual TN White pearl dual TN White pearl Dual IPS Small N3DS Mario marker dual TN

Hi, I’m new to these stuff and i just bought a 3ds that is region-locked for Japan because there’s this Japanese game that I really wanted to play. So my question is.. Is it possible to change the language to English without changing the region?

I have Pokémon crystal on my 2ds and saved data and other stuff. Been thinking about getting a Japanese 3ds and switching region to US. If I do this am I able to transfer data and profile from my 2ds to the 3ds?

The game data is on your carts but can’t transfer your Nintendo profile.

At this point, modifying your 3DS is a foregone conclusion. You can unlock the region with this method.

Does anyone know that if i were to buy a “region free” 3DS from eBay would i technically be able to play any game from ANY region on it as the descriptions of the product claim??
@ngantnier7 ай бұрын
Yes. They have already been region unlocked saving you the effort for the premium.

I just purchased the exact same 3ds and I didn’t even realize it had different screens until I compared it to my American 3ds. We’re you able to buy games from the Japanese e shop? It’s telling me I have to buy a prepaid card with yen and I can’t use a credit card. I’m honestly confused and I want to download some games before the e shop closes.

Hack your system, there's an easy to follow guide on the dedicated site. Google is your friend for further information.

Yup, makes me laugh. Everyone jizzed in their pants when the Switch came out(which is fine, new system, new excitement), the only thing is that the Switch DID NOT replace the 3DS(both could've totally co-existed). So everyone got rid of their 3DS consoles to become Switch bound, NOW everyone is craving a 3DS game console. Long live the 3DS!

You could purchase a US Reigon Motherboard, Then Take Apart The 3DS And Swap The JPN Motherboard For The US One, Then You Will End Up With A Cheap US 3DS And Safe Access To The eShop, Although That Probably Won't Matter After The 27th... But It's What I Do.

Usually if The product is below $800 it’s sent like any other piece of mail but if you happen to buy something over $800 and you’re trying to get your item to the US you have to pay custom fees I had the same question but I literally just bought a 3DS and I had to pay no custom fees whatsoever
