Got to take a thrill ride in the TRD Pro at Barret Jackson Auto Action in Scottsdale AZ on Saturday. It was amazing. Having a 2023 TRD Pro, it pales in comparison to the new version. I am sold, will be ordering my Pro in September.

The pro and trail hunter looks like they lost all the back seat storage area from the 3rd gen, because of the batteries under the seats. That kinda of sucks.
@lucristianx
@lucristianx 2 ай бұрын
If it’s anything like the Ford Maverick, you cannot run powertools off the outlet. Just charge batteries. It’s an amperage draw. Maybe Toyota addresses that issue.
@ALMX5DP
@ALMX5DP 2 ай бұрын
@@lucristianx the Maverick only has 400 watts out output so makes sense it could not power stuff likes tools. This will be 6x the output so should be able to run most anything short of a welder or something (but perfect for coffee makers, blenders, drills, saws, microwaves etc).

I do really want the hybrid, just comes down to the price. The extra power, better mpg, and larger inverter are all very appealing to me and I do trust Toyota s hybrid technology reliability. I would love to hear your impressions of the power difference and if it is very noticeable and worth it.

I will be ordering a Hybrid after they are out for a couple years. I want a TRD sport model to try to not spend 50k+ on a tiny truck. Very interested to see if a normal size human can fit in the back of the 4th gen, and how the front lines up in room too. Toyota has been building hybrid cars for 15+ years so I trust them way more than Ford or Chevy.

Toyota has been building hybrids for over 26 years. Do you think Toyota hydrogen vehicles have been a success? And with that kind of thinking, Chevy and Ford have been building vehicles for over 100 years and that doesn't mean much these days.

I may get a TRD off road someday. The new Tacoma would be as big as I’d want to get anymore. I traded my 22 platinum Tundra for a 23 Silverado and just got into an old school 2024 4Runner and it’s not perfect, but I love it. It’s all I need I just don’t tow or haul anything to spend 66k on a full size truck. I’m too old to be cool anymore.

I haven't seen any difference in the payload and towing capacities between the hybrid and non-hybrid, and I wonder if the weight of the batteries would negate any difference if there is one. I also need back seat room for my 100 lb Pittie/Mastiff, and plan to do a rear seat delete (I have a '22 Bronco BD 4 door, so he's got lots of room, and the rear seats have been folded down since I got it home) and build a platform for him. I'm waiting till maybe the summer to start looking for a '24 Taco OR, and Ice Cap with upgrade package is what I'll be looking for. I'll then sell my 2023 Tag XL Boondock teardrop and put a Tune M1 on the Taco, and off we go! Sounds like they're using the Prius battery system which is great news. Lithium ion is great for all electric however degrade too quickly then become too expensive to remove. In my garage i build Lithium ion battery packs for bikes. The issue is removing the old packs from under the frames. You need a specialized mechanic, which costs you more. I approve of the long term reliability put into the hybrid system. Makes me feel better about wanting to buy one.

those half ton emissions compliant diesels won't last long unless you do a delete. and the extra cost for diesel fuel will offset any mpg gain unless you tow often. The hybrid is a huge step up in power and capability from the gen 3. The regular iForce has about the same 0-60 time and the same mpg as the gen 3. Driveability and low end are improved according to reviews. It’s going to be a high price of admission for the hybrid though as from what I have seen on the trim packages you have to go full premium package on the OR or Sport before you can get the hybrid. Otherwise it’s the Pro or Trailhunter. Probably approaching $70k for those.

@Eastsidegeorgiaboy

Just get the one that you want. Makes no sense to get a truck you don't need just because it had a similar price to a smaller truck that you do need. Remember that the price of full size trucks has gone up. Your argument would have more merit to it if you were just talking about base models, but you are talking about halo and holy grail models. Those will always be in a fringe price point, as they are more towards the specialty vehicle spectrum. Useability is way more important. If you hit trails a lot, and don't tow anything too large, a midsized truck would work way better, unless you are transporting large sized adults around in the backseats. By large, I mean obese/fat/tall or a combination of them. Don't get the truck size thats going to piss you off the most. Honestly, there are more headaches to be had with a larger truck in general. Insurance is more, more surface area to get damaged, parts cost more, harder to maneuver, harder to park, harder to see out of, burns more fuel, repairs tend to be more, harder to drive safely, can be hard to get in and out of, tend to be larger targets for thieves, more likely to be stranded off road due to size and weight, tires cost more, more likely to roll over in a crash, more likely to kill someone in a crash.

How much will the tow and payload specs be reduced by the weight of the batteries and hybrid motor. The extra power is great but if you can’t use it for what you want to haul or tow then it’s kind of a waste unless you’re taking it to the drag strip!😂 Will they increase the GVWR to accommodate the hybrid? BTW, the Hilux (Tacoma’s cousin) has much higher payload and tow ratings. Couldn’t Toyota match those ratings in the Tacoma?

It will go down a bit due to the extra weight. But we all know it will Tow alot better for sure with that power.

@@TRDJon More for passing lane maneuvers--and that FEELING. Amusement parks are built in that premise that human brains enjoy G-forces and acceleration. They are literally G-force generating parks. Of course I own and haul Ducatis and 180-HP snowmobiles on the truck....The Toyota long bed option gives some thought of downsizing trucks.....the Hybrid motor can maybe keep the thrill alive.

Tacomas no doubt are great trucks,, but the insane pricing will keep me away.. everybody talks about the great power in the hybrids but any long term customers think about what it would cost to replace these hybrid batteries?? $6, $8k just a guess but prob more… if you research you will see the Toyo hybrids are needing batteries between 8-12 yrs. So 2-3 mpgs more you’re getting now are going to be poured into the battery replacement on the other end. To me it just doesn’t make sense, imo stick with the regular I-Force if you plan on dishing out all the $$$ and perhaps the only major repair will be the turbo one day.

The non-hybrid iForce Tacoma 2024 OF Premium available in Canada is already close to $71,000 in Canada. I can't imagine the premium they will be asking for the iForceMax model. Most likely close to 15%, which would bring the total price close to $81,650 with tax... a little bit too much for me!

The torque is good on the 4 cyl iforce max (465) but "insane" horsepower at 326hp? That's not insane. That's honestly barley above the competition. The non max iforce is underpowered compared to the rest of the midsized market. I hope the max performs since others stepped up their game.

@TRDJon it's absolutely better than the previous gens minivan engine. I wish toyota would offer a truely special engine for the pro. The ranger raptor (if they ever build it) will have 405hp and Jeep (ew) shoved a 392 in their midsize. People would buy it.

All the current turbocharged crop in the midsize segment are pretty insane in my mind. And lets not forget, peak power is only the tip of the iceberg. This iForce Max should have a hell of a lot of power down low as well given the torque comes in at such a low RPM.
