Right now, the only way to buy a Switch 1 would be a reassuring announcement from Nintendo that some new Switch 2 games will work on S1 as well. Kinda like take this first party game that works at 60 FPS on S2 but if you want it, it will run on S1 but at 30 FPS. So yeah, S2 will be expensive at launch and maybe not get too much price reduction until late in S2's lifetime, but is still worth the price. Makes more sense to wait for S2 because right now, most of the people looking for a Switch are actually the people that want to play the big games, like Mario World, Bros, Wonder, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Kart, Zelda BotW, TotK, and Echoes of Wisdom. And if you want to play them only, then wait for S2 because these games could get a remake. Or better, they might work if S2 supports the card system of S1 and it's actually backwards compatible. I wanted last year to buy some cheap retro handheld like MiioMiniPlus, because I knew about the new S2 then and wanted to save money for it. Of course it didn't get released and only about last month I decided to buy a handheld, and so I went with Anbernic RG406V. I can play a lot of games on it. Anyway, I also use my PC as a retro console. It has an RTX 3080 paired with an I9 10900K and 32 GB ram, so it;'s pretty capable at Switch emulation. Buy S1 only if you don't have any handheld and you want to play S1 games, it's more worth it to play them on intended hardware than to emulate. But if you want it, buy it new. Just think about, a second hand S1 saw a lot of charges in its lifetime so that battery will NOT be so good after so many cycles.

I also just bought a switch oled. I didnt see any point in waiting for switch 2 when its very likely going to cost more than the current switch and it will likely instantly sell out getting hold of one is going to be difficult so for me the switch oled was the best option.

if you don`t own a switch by now i would just wait for the 2. the hardware is what? ... 8 years old ? may aswell just wait since its most likely backwards compatible.
