I’ve purchased a few and they have been in amazing shape and basically brand new Glocks!

Police duty weapons are normally shot twice a year, about 100 rounds total, and are professionally maintained by agency range officers. Normally they’re a good bet as a second hand weapon.

Once a year for most in my agency

Short answer is "YES" if in decent condition at a good price. If there is anything wrong with it most anyone who is mechanically inclined can completely rebuild a Glock for very little money. Buy 2 new mags and use the mags it comes with for practice mags until you are sure of thier reliability. Replace the recoil spring. The gun may not need anything but these 2 items are the most abused so I change them.

Being an owner of two Glock LEO trade-ins, the answer is hell yes. They are a great value. Not to mention they have "soul".

I locally purchased a LEO G17 and G34 recently and was able to hand pick. They both have the safari smear and glock smile on the barrel but I don't mind the wear at all. It's adds a bit of character if you ask me. The G17 has the local PD initials with 4 numbers following as the serial number which is kinda cool. They both don't look to be shot much, maybe 1-2k rounds which saves me money on ammo breaking them in lol I'm not sure I'd buy without inspecting it though. Some of the ones I passed on had some serious use/wear on them. If the price was right I'd still go for it, being a glock you can make them right again fairly cheap. Still looking for an old Remington 870 police magnum though. I passed on one about 10 years ago and regretted it ever since. Great Video! Stay safe.

Thanks for the input! I would definitely wanna inspect a 870 trade in. In my experience they get badly neglected and tend to get rusted up very badly - especially ones manufactured during the freedom group era of Remington.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat

The Glock 37s that were hitting the market before the plague were an amazing deal. Despite being in a weird caliber (.45 GAP), they were less than half the price of other used Glocks on the market. Some of the .40 caliber versions that were sold off by various agencies were also good values. Swap out the springs, and you are good to go.

Hello, your video came up almost first as I searched “police trade_in gen5 19. I have purchased 2 police tradeins. The first is a gen4 17 I sent it in to Glock to have the springs replaced,I sent in with a bubble wrap & with total charge was $30 The second was a gen5 26 That 26 was absolutely new firearm. When I purchased glocks,I have to install “tango down” extended slide release & back plate. And trijicon yellow HD XR’s. I conceal carry & I will carry the 26 I also bought a TRL6 With vedder holsters & mag holster. Don’t forget to blue loctight all screws. Thanks for the video.

I wouldn't waste my money on a brand new Glock.

I'll have to agree that the EARLY Gen 5's & older are better platforms

Definitely buy another used LEO trade-in Glock especially Generation 3 & early Generation 4 cause they have better finish .

I have a G22 & have well over 2500 rounds through it & THANKFULLY NEVER have had the first Hiccup with it.. I also have a G19 & G26 with just as many rounds through them as well....But my G22 would be the last one that I'd EVER get rid of & I Also have a conversion (9mm) barrel for it
@Balkan1018 ай бұрын
How you like 9mm barrel? Did you change anything or just barrel swap? Thank you
@steemerxaxon16436 ай бұрын
Just a Lone Wolf barrel.. & Fortunately it has worked flawlessly..But most really like to change the ejector & recoil spring & for LONG TERM use would probably be better but I've just used mine like one day at the range but I've used it quite a bit

Yes you should purchase a police trade in, I purchased a HK USP 40 cal for $350.00, a M&P 40 Cal, and 2 Glock 22s, all great pistols.

Outstanding video - great information. Liberty taken to add a couple more points worth considering: Night sights are commonly found on trade-ins. Not always, but often. Rarely will you find something that was intentionally abused or experimented on. I say rarely because I haven't seen or heard of one. I got one with plastic sights, and the front sight was buggered up a bit, but still on target. If anything COULD have been broken, it probably was already, and replaced with a factory part, by a competent and qualified professional.. My presumptions, I'm sure, but reasonable expectations. Excessive holster wear and outward appearance are about the only thing that I would expect to be sub-par on a police trade-in. Some cartridges punish pistols harder than others, so expect 357Sig and 40S&W guns to live slightly-shorter lives, maybe..

Excellent point about the iron sights, I would say more have them than not!
@user-tp9gy8kt2q Жыл бұрын
And another excellent point about that trigger - mine came with that 14 pound "New York" trigger.. I'm really not a big fan of that.. But it is something others might want to consider as potentially being part of the overall package. Still well worth it, in my opinion. Thanks again for your informative video on an interesting (yet neglected) topic.

I bought a police trade in Glock 22 Gen 3. It was dirty when it arrived, but otherwise was in almost-new condition. It didn't even have much holster wear. I dropped in a 9mm conversion barrel, and it shoots well. In other words, it was a good value for the money,

The problem with the suggestion to buy locally is that most of the places I know of, don't allow you to handpick from their inventory. I wish they did
@russdennis7026 Жыл бұрын
If it's a Glock 35 I would say no. The G35 rear rail lug has a tendency to break off.

My local gun store has police trade ins for only $150 cheaper than a new Glock 🤔
@kcMan79387 ай бұрын
That’s minimal cosmetic wear on a firearm , for being carried around everyday . The reason you buy a LE firearm is to have an everyday shooter to practice with. I can’t make up my mind though on glock 17 gen2 or 3 or what . I would like to have the case and back straps too.
@PumpkinKingXXIII8 ай бұрын
Yes, buy police trade ins. I just bought a German frame p229 in 40 for $440 in very good condition with 3 LE marked mags. Sold the mags, barrel and slide for just shy of 300$ bought 3 9mm for 90 bucks, sig pro cut slid and 9mm barrel for 400. Bought a gray gun enhanced flat trigger lever system & spring kit for $213. So for less than 900 bucks I have gun that is smother and better shooting than my buddies legion and cost me hundreds less.

Does more law enforcement use .40? Or do most use 9mm?
@theodorepollock1273 Жыл бұрын
It's too agency specific for a good guesstimate. What ever the department feels is the best cost while being able to only just neutralize a target as the city's legal will have a say on what is carried. Hence no 10mm or 44 mags as they do a bit more than neutralize. That said, I think more carry .40 than 9, my old agency used .357sig out of a P226, then switched to M&P Shield .40 as they got a special contract on them and had the changeable grips for the baby hands or giant hams of hands.
@theodorepollock1273 Жыл бұрын
As long as your able to inspect the rails, chamber, and bore. Some of the worst gun owners both owning and ability to shoot are cops. They either key hole thier shots, or have to take the qualifying exam two or three times and rarely clean it.

What springs would you replace? I’m thinking about buying a trade in Glock 22 and 17 in the next month. They’re listed as either good or very good on most of the sites I’m looking at so wondering if the cleanup work is stuff I can handle.
@MagDumpGuns9 ай бұрын
Recoil spring, especially on the 22. Aside from that if you want extra piece of mind you could do the striker spring and maybe the extractor depressor plunger spring but I don’t think I would worry about those unless you disassemble and they look broken or corroded. I have seen striker springs get kinda gummed up from people getting oil in the striker channel, but even then they still work fine. Personally I would do recoil spring for sure and then disassemble and assess if anything else looked to be in need of replacement.

Not recommended get a pistol already killed someones, not for me.
