Everyone bitches about Subaru reliability. The only realistic thing is head gaskets in Outbacks at 150-180k. I have an 02 WRX with 180k. Stock engine, stock headgaskets, stock trans, stock clutch, stock tune. I hoon it through corners and rip it around a lot. I never launch it because it's a WRX. Get a fucking Mustang if you wanna drag race. Change the damn oil, don't let the coolant turn brown, and don't drive it like you're in an F1 race every time you get behind the wheel and it will last like a typical Japanese car does. And if you try to get another 100-200hp out of it and it blows up, that's your fucking problem. Not the reliability of the car. Not every engine is a 2JZ.

When you see the difference between the 6 speed housing and 5 speed, you understand why the 5 speed shatters eventually when you launch with over 300tq. @@wazzaawassupbengi1728 That engine lastest 8000 miles after I bought the car. The dealer I bought it from drove it around for a week with low oil. I have an IAG Stage 2 Tuff shortblock in it right now, but cold weather caused excessive pressure to build up in the AOS and popped the dipstick up, shooting out most of the oil. I've been meaning to change the oil and send it off to a lab to see if the bearings are damaged, but I just don't have the motivation to do so. As for maintenance I've done, I get the oil changed every 3000 miles and I've recently done a 100,000 mile service that replaced the brakes, tires and all the fluids. I've gotten it detailed, the wheels refinished and I'm looking at fixing the slight dents and rock chips that it's accumulated over the years. I'm even replacing interior trim pieces that are worn-out. I always let the car warm up completely and wait a while to let the turbo cool down before turning it off. And I check the oil everyday, too.

@@soilareyes7967 Oil change with synthetic oil every 3,000 miles. On any other car, that would be overkill, but if you don't do that on your Subie, you will spin a bearing. Check your oil every time you fill up. Sometimes the light won't come on even if there's no oil touching the dipstick. Also, let your car warm it up before driving. The oil is thicker while cold, and EJ engines don't like that. And definitely do not floor it or beat on your engine while the oil is cold. As for other maintenance, whatever the manual recommends for milage, cut that in half. With these cars, you can never be too sure and can never be too careful.

I too have a 2013 base WRX same color and everything and I can agree the stock tune is based purely on fuel economy meaning it’s too lean. The tuner told me that he knew right away that I had taken it easy in the car because if not I would’ve blown it up by now. So I did a stage 1 tune a couple yrs ago and now recently went stage 2 and I only have 40k on the odometer. The stage 2 really woke the car up but the key is to spend the money on a pro tune. Originally I was looking at 04-07 WRXs because of price but obviously these are older and potentially more worn out so I started to look at newer models. A lot of folks are saying "stock tune is pretty bad" well back that up. Elaborate. Engineers and professional tuners from Subaru probably know what they are doing..
@pauliswaycool6 жыл бұрын
Well the issue is they have to make the SAME tune for every climate, altitude level and gas type along with having to make something that performs well for EPA tests. As a result you get a very dumbed down version of your car with a lot of its power suppressed. Getting a tune unleashes your cars potential, particularly with turbo cars.
@MrJames68916 жыл бұрын

WILL MY CAR BE RELIABLE ???
@letsgoebeyond7 жыл бұрын
gabmas69 the 2015+ wrx is a much more reliable car then the 2014 and below. The FA motor is almost bullet proof. The old EJ blocks did have more issues. However, on paper the power is pretty much the same, but the twin scroll turbo in the 15+ definitely doesn't hit quite as hard as the older wrx. I have a 16 and i recommend it, but I also recommend the EJ motors as well. With the work you'd like to do, I'd get a 2015+ model. It'd be more reliable, but at the same time... your reliability will go down if you mod it. Anything can break really. Just treat the vehicle right, and it'll treat you right as well.
@letsgoebeyond7 жыл бұрын
gabmas69 you also need certain parts for the tunes. You can't just slap bigger tunes on a wrx and expect to have 0 issues. You can run a stage 1 tune on all stock parts, but that's the only tune.

can you please tell me why its a good idea to get a stage 1 tune with this? i just recently bought an unmodded well taken care of wrx and i want to know why its a good idea to put a stage 1 mod on.
@jesustapdancingchrist698 жыл бұрын
In order to meet emissions requirements, the stock tune on the motor has a tendency to run lean. Going with stage 1 is just a re-tune of the ecu and the map will run a richer mixture. If your car has a warranty on it be wary of tuning it because it could potentially void your warranty. Go to NASIOC and use the search feature and people will likely have already answered a question that you have.

I ordered my 2013 WRX in Nov. 2012 and didn't receive it until February 2013. It's also pretty common to buy 1 year newer model cars toward the end of the year.
