This was one of my first scale models as a kid. So you can imagine how I felt when in mid-1990s suburban Melbourne, my friend opened his dad’s garage and I found myself staring at a Dodge Viper and 1969 Mustang. I couldn’t believe my eyes. For all its faults, lack of quality and exotic style, a red Viper RT10 still remains a childhood dream car 😍

The older they get the less complicated they are, alot less goes wrong and the mechanics like 'em. There's a message there. As soon as car manufacturers figure it out the better off we'll all be.
@dukascopyolgavids10257 ай бұрын
Unfortunately car manufacturers figured it out long ago, that's why they make them like that. More going wrong means more mugs getting ripped off by dealer servicing, and more expensive parts sold. Just look at Audi, their cars are often great to drive, but it's as if they design them on purpose (eg plastic PCV valve that fails and leaks water into the engine oil) to fail expensively.

Great review, spot on to how I view my 95! Viper is way cheaper to maintain compared to any European exotic that's 30 years old. You've mentioned all the issues with the first gens, well done. It also provides a better experience (driving and eyeballs) vs the "competition". For the current prices....it's just a bargain and I wouldn't hesitate to by a second one.

Door sagging issues are from coupe models with windows. They used the same hinges as the door without the additional window weight so the door sagged over time. Realignment isn't a big deal. The interior plastic is not thin. It's really easy to remove in order to refinish. This video sounds like a pretty accurate review though. It's so much fun to drive.

Our local dodge dealer here in my town back in the 90s had both the Gen 1 prototype and the Gen 2 prototype vipers, they still had the hand-cut tires on them. One day his kid got in trouble and he came to our school to talk to the teachers, he parked the Gen 2 right in front of the front door and went in. We were all on our lunch breaks so we were all out front of the school as it was a popular spot to chill and eat. Pretty much everyone hated the dealer as he was a total prick, so a bunch of kids pulled out their keys and started to walk toward the Gen 2. Luckily one of the school cops walked over to it and stood next to it, it stopped all the kids from keying the crap out of it.

As far as 90s US muscle cars go, I've always been a fan (especially in Aussie GTP race spec, ie Nations Cup) But realistically, a C4 ZR1 Corvette would do just about everything better, except they look mostly like any other 80s 90s C4. I’ve had 5 Vipers over the years. 96,98,01,03,06. I loved them all. I sold my 06 in 2021 when I retired. The biggest issue I had was that new tires are virtually impossible to find anymore! I always replace my tires after 4 regardless of how many miles are on them. What good is an awesome car like the Viper if you can’t buy tires for it. 🤔 There’s a whole history about various manufacturers and tires which I’m not going into here.

I'm pretty sure I saw this exact car only about a month ago. I've never seen a Gen 1 and it looked absolutely wild. With these, I once saw a post from Iron Chef Imports that sums these up well. Build quality and materials, exacting craftsmanship, refinement, reliability, class, and restrained sensible styling are not things you buy a Viper for. Which is good, because it has none of them. They're an objectively terrible car. But that doesn't matter. This is just brute force rapidity with a car plonked on top of it, and a wheel at each corner.
