Something a bit different in this video. We do a deep dive on the almighty Dodge Viper. 8-litre V10, lightweight, very little safety, no roof, no door handles! What a thing.
Along with trying to survive the drive, we tell you how they're aging after 30-odd years, what goes wrong with them, and whether you should ever consider buying one.

This was one of my first scale models as a kid. So you can imagine how I felt when in mid-1990s suburban Melbourne, my friend opened his dad’s garage and I found myself staring at a Dodge Viper and 1969 Mustang. I couldn’t believe my eyes. For all its faults, lack of quality and exotic style, a red Viper RT10 still remains a childhood dream car 😍

A long time ago I did a skip barber racing course. The instructor took us greenhornsnonr by one as passengers for laps around the track in a Viper. I made the mistake of suggesting that, so far, he looked like he was showboating a bit. The next lap was terrifying.

As far as 90s US muscle cars go, I've always been a fan (especially in Aussie GTP race spec, ie Nations Cup) But realistically, a C4 ZR1 Corvette would do just about everything better, except they look mostly like any other 80s 90s C4. I kinda like the idea of a Redriven Collectables spin off series, too....

The older they get the less complicated they are, alot less goes wrong and the mechanics like 'em. There's a message there. As soon as car manufacturers figure it out the better off we'll all be.
@dukascopyolgavids1025
@dukascopyolgavids1025 25 күн бұрын
Unfortunately car manufacturers figured it out long ago, that's why they make them like that. More going wrong means more mugs getting ripped off by dealer servicing, and more expensive parts sold. Just look at Audi, their cars are often great to drive, but it's as if they design them on purpose (eg plastic PCV valve that fails and leaks water into the engine oil) to fail expensively.

I would never have picked this as today's review car in a million years so definitely a surprise. It sounds like you need the nerves of a pro racer with the truckies ability to double clutch a road ranger gearbox to drive this beast. It definitely sounds like the ideal project car due to being easy to work on. The front of it I think they based off of Ted Bundy as it's front looks like it'll promise you fun then try to kill you when you drive it with it's sinster smile. Great job guys and look forward to Sunday's video as per usual and keep up the good work 👍.

That's a rhetorical question, as Vipers are continually going up in price. Most are out of price range at this point. And having a sports car made with bin parts is the best thing which can happen to one in regards to ownership, as parts will be inexpensive and easy to obtain.

You spelt theatre incorrectly... Although this is a video with the steering wheel on the incorrect side of the car. So it's very much on brand to spell words wrong too. And as a man who's very interested in cars that bring the drama, a first gen Viper is very near to the top of my wishlist. Nobody quite does "in your face" like the 'muricans do and you just have to love that. Even if they do need a little help from the Europeans, or even on occasion us Australians, to make them work properly.

I'm pretty sure I saw this exact car only about a month ago. I've never seen a Gen 1 and it looked absolutely wild. With these, I once saw a post from Iron Chef Imports that sums these up well. Build quality and materials, exacting craftsmanship, refinement, reliability, class, and restrained sensible styling are not things you buy a Viper for. Which is good, because it has none of them. They're an objectively terrible car. But that doesn't matter. This is just brute force rapidity with a car plonked on top of it, and a wheel at each corner.

So, you want an expensive, old, fast and thirsty 2-seater toy that'll take your breath away? Try our 1956 Rolls-Royce Avon 207C-engined Hawker Hunter jet fighter. With fuel consumption of 26-litres/minute at tickover and 55-litres/minute at the normal operating speed of Mach 0.9, it'll make your eyes water. So too will the power output of 10,500 lbs static thrust, which equates to 9,770 HP. Top speed is around 1,360 km/h; now that's REALLY flying! We won't mention the cost of maintaining it, though! 😉
