The V90 is a gorgeous car, but you're not quite right about the old Volvos, there were some pretty desirable Volvo estates. They even raced 850 R estates in the BTCC, which was a pretty spectacular sight.

I love this wagon's look. It's sleek and modern without being sporty or ostentatious. Many modern cars fail at this. They look too aggressive like the RX or a lot of BMWs. Many cars add unnecessary aggression to their styling to make their cars "standout" but all it does is make all cars look the same. For Volvo to approach their design language in their minimal Swedish way, they make their cars stand apart from everything else. I appreciate it's cabin too. Functional with plenty of luxury add-ons to make it a place you would want to eat miles in. The boot is as big as many crossovers but without the boring crossover shape. Big fan!

@@MrUnknown2105 Well, my current model is a 2019 V60 Inscription T4 (190hp petrol) auto. It does around 8.4 L/100Km, when driving at typical motorway speeds of 135 - 140 Km/hour, and also some limited city driving. I wont say that the fuel economy impress me that much, but its the most comfortable and high quality feeling car, that I have even owned - including several other Volvos. I’m on to my 2nd one now, I use my car as a van for work and it’s been superb. First was a 2019 D4 R Design, excellent on fuel on a run, followed a friend in a truck that was limited to 54mph home up the motorway, the Volvo kept dropping down from 8th to 7th gear on the cruise control but averaged an astonishing 84mpg over a 100 or so mile journey. Part-ex’d that for a 2022 B4 petrol R Design and its even better. Being the facelift, it gets the new Google based infotainment system, it’s taken 6 months for them to tweak it via over the air updates but it works brilliantly now. They’ve also refined the styling too, nice little touches like VW/Audi style sweeping indicators, animated tail lights etc. it’s by far the best car I’ve owned to date and it’s an absolute pleasure to work out of. Customers are always commenting how nice it looks.

I had one of these (Momentum D4) on lease for three years, when they first came out. Everything on it as standard. Recently, I went into hospital for some checkups and I joked with my crew that If I dropped dead then at least I'd enjoyed the Volvo. It is the most lovely, sophisticated, homely, silent car that I've ever driven. I had a brand new BMW 3.OL estate on loan whilst it went in for a small software fix, getting my V90 estate back was like those shots you see of people spotting their loved one in the crowd after an earthquake! Genuinely, a car you can fall in love with... and I miss her! JM

I have the D5 Cross Country. I chose the Cross Country as it comes with full leather rather than alcantara. I need wipe clean because it’s a workhorse. Polestar is a dealer applied remap which gives a few extra bhp but also optimises the easily confused gearbox. That said there’s been two dealer updates available on the gearbox this year alone. The Cross Country has taller section tyres so is even more comfortable. So comfortable that I’m always disappointed when I travel by Mercedes Chauffeur! The boot is less practical than my previous V70 due to the sloping glass but bigger. The Cross Country has a higher towing capacity than non CC AWD models. I bought mine on a whim but will without doubt replace it with another one.

I have the V90 Cross Country Ocean Race edition - D4 engine. Unless I drive VERY conservatively, I gat around 35 37 mpg on average (mixed motorway and city driving) The D5 is more on top of the job and doesn't need to rev as much so MPG is better despite the added BHP. One other note with having it serviced at a main dealer, they will give you 12 months Volvo Assistance with each service and that is a great thing to have. Mine bizarrely lost it's alternator pulley (sheared off) and Volvo assistance brought me a new car to use, transported mine away to be fixed, rang every day with updates and then delivered it back when fixed and took away the loan car. All after only ONE phone call from me. THE best service I've ever had from a manufacturer - and I spent over 6 years with Toyota in the Motor Trade. I've now done over 60k miles in 2 years without any further issues. One hell of a car!

Got the d4 cross country. 26 hours, London to Spain, drove itself most of the way, you get 30seconds between having to touch the steering wheel, then a light comes on, and if you ignore that, a DONG, about 40 seconds. most comfy seats bar a RR, best stereo of any car, best self driving software of any car. As comfortable if not more so than my old S class. I am impressed.

I took mine Bilbao to Porto last year, 750km, first time in years driving on that side of the road and in a right hand drive car, was nervous about it especially as the missus, our two dogs and loads of luggage were onboard as we were going for 2 months. The car made a huge difference, the drive would have killed me in something with less comfort and driver assistance. It is perfect for that type of thing.

I've had mine for close to 3yrs. Tricked up with options and 20" wheels. I still think it's probably the most handsome estate on the road and doesnt look like its been designed by a kid in a sweet shop. All the fluff that I didn't think I'd need have become daily essentials. Self drive in a traffic jam is heaven. 360 cams in a multistory carpark with tiny spaces no problem and everything just works better than any other car. Even the wipers work better lol. Downside is the sports ones have pretty hard suspension which on uk roads can be a little firm. Don't think much of the dealer either but that seems to be par for the course. When I picked it up the box for the keys was like I was getting married. And it has a bloody swim key for water sports. Mine will have to go soon. Work from home these days and house purchase looming 😒

Even in a bonestock spec this car is extremely comfortable and runs like a dream + lasts forever. My dad bought a 2018 pretty much bonestock v90 with the D3 and it really is a remarkable car, it's almost *TOO* comfortable to drive, dead quiet and just glides on the roads. Bumps and imperfections in the roads are barely noticeable in this car. I myself am looking for a v90 too since they have come down in price a ton as of late.

I am pleased they did as I have found the Volvo to be a great replacement. I’ve done 30,000 miles, regularly get over 50mpg on a run. I love all the technology, auto pilot is a great feature, I love the alarm isolation in the back if I need to leave the dog in the back for a few minutes. I have it serviced by Volvo which is not cheap and road tax at £520 also not cheap but all in all worth paying for such a great car. This will easily do me for another 5 years.

Really like your vids and you're putting more work in to them now which is great. However, there's a few inaccuracies in here: 1) pilot assist is standard on all SPA Volvo 90 series cars. No need to look for one with. 2) only a V90 momentum or possibly a D4 R- design will be standard £165 tax. All others will have started life at over £40k 3) it's not 2.5 tonnes. Kerb weight of that particular car will be around 1900kg. A D4 momentum will be around 1750 and therefore very comparable to a G31. I have had an S90 for 3 years and have just sold a G31 for another S90.

One thing to look for on those D5 engines is that the power pulse pipes linking the compressor to the turbo have a tendency to fail quite frequently. My V50 D5 eventually died through the turbo blowing, I went to overtake on the motorway and the RPM went through the roof, black smoke everywhere, I pulled over with the RPM still redlining, turned the ignition off...End it wouldn't stop. Just kept running and sounding worse and worse. I had to literally stall the car to shut the engine off. I sold my V70 and tested a lot of v90’s, to end up with a 2018 xc90 D5 awd. We did some chiptuning to 285 hp and 650 nm of torque. Funny thing is: inside the car it feels like a easy, gentle car, but it really is a spaceship! The only thing i regret is that we don’t have bought the R-design version of it. In comparison to a x5 or q7 which we tested as well, we’re still very happy with this generation of Volvo’s

A friend recently got himself a 2018 V90 D4. To my amazement it does not have AdBlue even though the handbook says that it does! It seems that some have it and some do not - I;ve told him is is very lucky!. One thing to look out for is the extra tax for list price over 40K. My friend's was about £39K new but was the basic trim spec. Higher trim levels can put these in the high tax for 5 years bracket. He has had trouble with the oil level showing as over full - after a dealer service. Apparently a bit of an issue with these. Apart from that he loves it.

@@khelgarironfist3301 I paid £320 for a full service+MOT from a local specialist at the beginning of the year. I called up Volvo for the same service and they were charging about £460. Other than that, I had an engine light on and it turned out to be an O2 sensor that was going bad but the fault hasn't come up again since they cleared it (?). I used my Carly to try and reset the light myself but it wouldn't go away although I could see the code. So, I took it the Volvo and paid £108 for this. I also took the car there because my specialist couldn't find the fault and it turned out to be an EGR hose that was cracked. Apparently the pipes breaking on the car are a common issue, I've also had the powerpulse hose and coolant hose to do the same thing. Tyres can be expensive, I have CrossClimate tyres on mine and they run quite a bit. However, it's extremely comfortable and I just can't part with it. I want a car that is a bit faster but it is such a good car that I know I'll miss it if I sell it. I love it.

@@HaydnFisher coolant hose on my 2017 v90 cross country went after about 70k Kms. Very disappointing, you just would never ever see that on a Japanese car. Also had big problems with the safety systems that was blamed on the electronic towbar control module, replaced twice after almost no use. It's a lovely car for a long drive but overall it's been a let down in two years for me. It's just not very exciting and too many niggling issues. Auto wipers are always playing up, turbo air hose also went and dealer blamed it on rodents (which is possible given where we lived at the time, basically in a small forest!) but I still wonder Other issue would be the driver seat making an awful creaking noise, sorted with a bit of wd40 but again some thing that just shouldn't happen after 70-80k kms, especially as I'm 70kg on a bad day. Dealers here in Ireland are incompetent and ripoff merchants too.

The two litre diesel engines are known to be very unreliable. They have all kinds of (expensive) issues like excessive oil consumption. It's a shame that Volvo had to let go of the straight 5 engines. they were among the best in the business. I guess they had to let go of them because of emissions. I hate to say this because i love the look of the V90. One of the most reliable engines today is the straight 6 from BMW. So: Do yourself a favour and buy an 5 series BMW instead. It will keep going forever...BTW: Love your videos. Good stuff!

I loved my 67 plate volvo V90 T4 inscription. And after 3 years and 30000 miles I sold it for £4000 more than I paid for it. I adveraged 55mpg and it was so relaxing on long motorway / dual carriageway trips. Autopilot gave you time to watch other people in there cars. I had a BMW 535D touring before this, and yes it was better on a twisty road, and yes it was blisteringly quick. But it was way more expensive to run and always had something broken that would cost a fortune to repair. Nothing ever broke / stopped working on the Volvo. Mine didn't have Android Auto or apple car play , but Volvo only charged £200 to add. My car tax was way more than that. It started at over £800 a year and then when 3 years old it halved. The inscription also had full electric memory seats. Fully recommend anyone thinking of buying one.

They definitely lost the diesel battle when they dropped the 5-cylinders. Compared to the germans their hybrids (which for company drivers, we have to make do with for now) do have a big advantage with the battery located in the transmission tunnel as opposed to taking up boot space.

I drove the V60, V70 and V90 and in all three the turbo lag / throttle lag is the deal breaker, for safety reasons. When entering a busy roundabout or joining a dual carriageway, once there is a break in the traffic you need to go. That does not happen with Volvo … and Audi for that matter. BMW still has the best gearbox. No turbo lag. The V90 is a beautiful car. Pity looks not matched by engineering.

Beautiful car. My Kia Optima has Lane keep assist which keeps you in lane and literally steers for you on the motorway and likewise I thought it was a pointless gimmick. But now I find myself using it all the time on motorways - it just eliminates the need to constantly make slight adjustments to make sure you’re in the middle of the lane. That along with cruise control makes motorway travels so much more relaxing.
