Boy I'm glad all $600 dollah boards are a sure sign of quality and performance. Could you imagine if a seller jacked up his price to profit under the guise that a more expensive board was a better board? If only a video gave better advise and schooled viewers in design construction, warranties, customer service, ... some of the aspects of buying outside of the big river. My advice, keep watching videos, you will learn more, let your finances determine your experience. You can have a ball on a cheap board and it can hold up too. Throwing more money at a board is no guarantee.

I have experienced excellent results and we used the heck out of them, lakes, rivers, kids, over loading i.e. two adults on one board. So far have had one that developed a slow leak that I easily repaired with some quality glue and a patch. I have used a kayak seat on one that came with a double end paddle. Don’t listen to this nonsense, the boards I have are great, and everyone I paddle with and have met out on the river have all bought their boards off of Amazon, you don’t need stupidly expensive equipment to get in to it, and I highly recommend getting in to it, and have a great time. Hey Ethan I have watched a lot of your vids and indeed bought my second board - A starboard igo zen which is superb and wasn't actually that expensive £350 .. Now - I slightly disagree in that yes my 1st board was an Amazon job - my point though it got me hooked and then by listening and talking to the right people i now have a superb board - and a black fish salish paddle - bearing in mind no paddle was supplied with the board and the paddle was £200 😮 so that's £550 for a good package the Amazon Job did its job for me I feel its fair to say when starting out you will generally always buy the wrong piece of kit unless of course you go to a centre where you can try out several pieces of kit including the paddle which is for me is more important than the board ... Love your video's as I say I purchased my starboard and most pleased with it and your content is partly responsible for my choice... Cheers 👍

What is the importance of the rear profile of the iboard? Usually iSUPs have a flat tail, but there are also those with a slightly raised tail.
@ethanhuffsup Жыл бұрын
The tail of the board can provide more stability when doing pivot turns as well as provide better water release when paddling, which will lead to increased glide/speed. Generally flat tails are better for flat water paddling. Some iSUPs may have more of a rounded tail simply do to them being an inflatable and you can't shape them the same as a hard board. Hope that helps you. 🤙

I totally agree. I live in Australia and bought the cheapest inflatable board from an online camping store (Adventure Kings). These boards have good reviews on KZbin. However, after a few uses, the board and entire kit are destined for the council clean up. The deck pad edges have lifted right away from the board. In sections where the deck pad is still attached, there are bubbles under the deck pad where the glue is also failing. The manufacturer offered to pay for a tube of glue so I could re-glue the deck pad. Unfortunately glueing was unsuccessful. The paddle is awful and so is the leg leash. "Buy cheap. Buy twice". I'm saving up for a quality board now. Summer is coming.

Are there objective measurements that can distinguish a good board from a bad board? I tried to find what makes a quality board, but so far, also in your video it's all "feels stiffer", "is more durable" etc. I accept the welded vs glued seams point, that is a superior technology and a quality board should have it. But for the rest - can you measure it? If not than there is a high chance it's just BS. Is the durability backed up by a longer warranty? Same with paddles - flex of the paddle is quoted as a mark of quality, and it could easily be measured, but never have I seen someone actually measure it. I had paddles in hand that flexed like a wet noodle, and ones where the flex was unperceivable. And price was not the determining factor. Now I would never buy the cheapest product out there, but there are plenty of brands that cost not much more and provide a good value for money. Especially for the casual user.
@ethanhuffsup2 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter thanks for the great questions. It can defiantly seem challenging to understand the differences at times and I'm sorry if I didn't explain those things more clearly. Other things to look for when comparing inflatables other than how the seams are held together (glue vs. welded), are things like the type of weaving a company uses inside the board to give it rigidity. For example linear drop stitch vs. woven. More info on this here: sup.star-board.com/inflatable-paddle-board-technology/inflatable-paddleboard-woven-dropstitch-technology/ Also, some companies will add another air camber inside the board to provide extra rigidity, or even others like Red Paddle Co. add small thin rods on the side of their boards to add to rigidity. In general though it's always good to do some research on the company to see how long they've been in business, are they investing time and research into their products, plus what are customers saying. As for paddles here is a great example by Starboard explaining the difference in staff stiffness and how it's measured. Simply scroll down to the "Staff Stiffness" chart. sup.star-board.com/paddle-board-paddles/lima-paddle/ Also, Black Project SUP has a great article here explaining how to choose a paddle. blackprojectsup.com/sup-paddles/how-to-choose-and-customize-your-sup-paddle/ I hope this info helps you out. 🤙

I know several people who have Amazon boards going on over 4 years paid under 400 with no issues take care of your stuff and things last… this whole video is basically saying hey, you got to own a a Ferrari to drive😂. Sure if your in the ocean with heavy surf having a more purpose built board is better choice, or if your racing or something dropping a few grand on a set up sure. But if you’re chilling with friends cruising around on a lake Amazon is just fine.

He's a Patagucci guy... $600+ for a basic board. Nope.

Dude, for people who paddle in the ocean it's non negotiable. There is a massive difference in quality between brands. You have to trust your life to these things in many cases, and if you stick with it, you are going to be spending another $150 next season when your board inevitably busts a seam.

I own and operate a stand up paddle board retail and rental shop. Been in business for 9 years as a certified guide for stand up paddling. I've been selling glide, Infinity, and nrs boards throughout this time. I try to so hard to convey to my customers exactly what you put in this video. I totally get not everyone can spend 799 to 2,900 on a board but I try to work with my customers as best I can and still they purchase amazon or costco boards thinking that a 250 board is a steal. I hit on all points that you just did, the only thing I think many people don't realize is that when your amazon board pops or has unfixable issue that those boards go in the trash into a landfill because nothing about that product is recyclable. The quick, I need it now discount board might last a season or two. It's hard to see the sport you love be flooded by cheaply made products. Thanks for your video. It made me feel not so alone with my thoughts on the amazon boards.

Thanks for the great comment and thoughts! Likewise, I appreciate knowing there are others like you teaching the importance of quality equipment and helping people have a better experience on the water. 😃

Question for both of you and also link a site if you have one! Silly question but just recently bought An Amazon paddle board is it possible to make them stronger/ any recommendations on longevity ?

@@connorswanson3695 Hey Connor, great question. There really isn't anything you can do to the board to make it stronger unfortunately. But, in order to help with the longevity of the board simply make sure to rinse it off after each paddle and store it in a controlled environment. Avoid storing it in extreme heat or cold if possible.

2900? Haha😂 yea I’d rather buy a 250 dollar board 12 times over cause you said I’d get about 2 years out of them so I should be good, will revisit in 24 years

If the paddle is 200 dollars so the board will kill you, no wonder why people continue buying from amazon, so no thank you. I buy from amazon. Anyway still a 600 dollars paddle board still not good quality anyways. 🤔
