My favorite deckbuilder is Griftlands. More than the deckbuilding aspect I love all the other mechanics that improve our chance in combat or negotiation. The companions, reputations, artifacts etc (been a long time since I played it). But the main story and the myriad of side stories (random because roguelike), the decisions you make that impact your playthrough made me love this game even more.

for some reason I think I applied for a press key for that - but never got a response lol - definitely looked interesting (and I do like it when roguelites have a storyline, even if it's just light)

Excellent review, thank you for making this. I agree with most of your points, would love to see what they do with this moving forward.

Glad you enjoyed it :) - it's a fun game, and honestly, outside of just "more content" - all it really needs for me mechanics-wise would be some form of meta progression to make multiple runs more interesting (and would ideally result in a player adaptive difficulty)

Did you check Wildfrost ? Nice little roguelike "deckbuilder" reminding me a bit of monster train. I was so charmed by playing the demo that it is still on my computer and continue playing it and think I will buy it when it goes out. Rare thing for me.

Haven't tried Wildfrost yet, but I'll definitely put it on the list to watch :) (has some nice pixel art for sure)

The one Deck Builder i played and liked a lot was BattleForge, sadly that was an early game of this genre by EA and they forced multiplayer in it because back then that was what was "en vogue". And the game was great in the maps you could actually play solo, but for the entire campaign to finish you NEEDED multiplayer. Today i only play one Deck Builder, that´s Tower Tactics Liberation, i game i saw Splattercat playing.

I didn't get to play it when it came out (Battleforge), but isn't there a fan revival of it that came out a while back? Or am I mistaken? (and sadly forced multiplayer is still en vogue... *glares at blizzard*) And yea, I watched wander play a bit of TTL, haven't gotten to try it myself yet though :( (nice combo of deckbuilder and tower defense)

@@Alzorath Fan project? Imma gonna check that one out! And yes, that tower defense/deck build/rogue-light crossover. Is nice.

Lost interest when he said bosses become regular enemies. So pathetic

This was a review of the early access version, I've yet to see if it's still the case with the full release (though I do have it on my list of games to revisit)
