*Never buy ev car becoz* its price is 50% more and battery life is about 10 year which cost some what about 50% of car value so in 15 years you will hardly spent so much in petrol compare to ev's extra cost and that too without spending any battery discharge stress , so buy petrol fill any where save time and stress of charge by petrol.

I own a Nexon EV for past 15 months. You have covered most of points regarding the charging infrastructure. But I must say charging infrastructure is not mature enough in India. Tata power lacks customer support. I got stuck quite a few times because of this. Some chargers show online on the app but when you reach the place they are of no use and there is no one to help you there.
@lalitpatibanda

And I can say it is getting better because i was stuck in a tier 2 city in AP with my charging gun getting stuck. Had to reach out to TATA support and the nearest service center guy called me and helped me on how to fix it as well as guide me to the next available fast charger which was working fine. So it might not be the best, but it is surely on its way to be the best.

Let me share my experience I am a senior citizen from Mumbai. Last December we took an adventure trip to Gujarat and in one week we covered 2500 km in Tata Nexon EV. Charging cost was around 5500. The vehicle performed extremely well. Very comfortable and good vehicle for long drives. You don't feel tired at all. At times we did face charging issues and that's why we reached the destination late at night, but that was because some of the charging stations were not working. So that is a lessons learnt. But overall, the charging problem is not that big an issue, that you decide not to buy the vehicle.

@@msdadsfsx Normally when I charge at home the charging cost comes to less than a rupee 1 per kilometre, but on the highways you need to get it charged on fast charger, where the cost is double than this and also since on the highways, you drive at say 100 km per hour speed and therefore, the mileage gets reduced and therefore you need to charge the vehicle more frequently than normal.

All of you points are very well valid, except the "Range one". The Range Anxiety is something which is the biggest barrier in the EV world. After that, the next killer is "charging time". Yes, 1 hour is too much. And no sir, we do travel a lot, and take break of 5 mins only and that too at some scenic location, and not some charging station. And there are plenty of youtube videos availible on the "practical" range of Nexon EV ... it's not above 200 km if you drive at 100 km/hr with 4 people, AC on on highway. So until EVs offer a promising range of "Real life 400 km", EVs can't replace ICE cars.

it's so simple follow this equation 1) Tiago EV If you are looking for an automatic Hatch back @ Rs 10+ L budget on road. But your daily avg drive is between 50 to 200 kms. And your long drive is only two or three times in a month. It's a go for Tiago EV 2) Nexon EV If you are looking for an automatic Compact SUV @ Rs 16+ L budget on road. But your daily avg drive is between 50 to 200 kms. And your long drive is only three or four times in a month. It's a go for Nexon EV 3) Nexon EV Max If you are looking for an automatic Compact SUV @ Rs 17+ L budget on road. But your daily avg drive is between 50 to 300 kms. And your long drive is only four or five times in a month. It's a go for Nexon EV Max ----------------------------- If you fit in this equation and if you buy it, 80% of your charging can be done in home. Which means you are least worried about charging stations. But if you are a person who have long drives in almost all days, and if you take an EV, sure you can save good money, but with charging headache you will get mad. You must take a Hybrid. As per my equation if you take an EV, you can save nearly Rs 10 to 14 Lakhs in fuel cost within 8 years. Ie nearly 80% of your investment. By that time innovative batteries will emerge at good price. And you can have it. But on the same time, the petrol /Diesel car you buy now, will be struggling with high fuel cost and no will buy it in the used car market. But for EV, if you have a solar at home, you can have reliable drive. And unlike XuV 400, Nexon has Li Phosphate battery, which lasts extra long. Citroen EV has air cooled battery and 5 year warranty on motor, whereas Tiago has liquid cooled battery and 8 year warranty on motor.

Yes they r fast but it feels like driving a toy car kids drive . So lifeless. And one problem which no one talks about the problem of excessive mining that will happen as all countries will rush in to dig up raw materials for batteries, it will create further pollution and harm the environment due to excessive mining. I am using Nexon EV for last 1 year and very happy with it. But I would advise it only for people who are comfortable using apps on phone and have a bit of technical mindset. Getting a fast charger to work everytime is not an easy task. It's a problem only on long journey to a new place. If you are familiar with chargers on a particular route then it's slightly easier. But if that doesn't bother you much then it's the best vehicle to own hands down.

Most of the points I agree with (what you have reasoned for buying an EV). However, my personal issue is the price difference between ICE and EV initial cost. If genuinely my driving is less so it would not make sense to invest few additional lakhs on EV upfront. The same additional amount that I might pay for the difference I may spend same or even less over a period of 5 to 8 years on petrol.

Yes, This is the main point....very high upfront cost...If you drive less...you can put 5-6 lacs saved in fd...practically your fuels cost will be covered with interest and capital will be intact...however environment enthusiasts can definitely buy.. from getting return on investment in an ev you have to be on road for 4-5 hrs everyday...so very high upfront costs deter many buyers...

A Brilliant video Rachit! Very well explained, but a question arises, electric cars stand at level 1 in terms of pollution, but isn't it more, as mining for lithium causes pollution, also, the amount of gases released when a battery for an EV is manufactured, is a lot. Ofc, in terms of manufacturing, making EV vehicles cause more pollution than that of an ICE vehicle. But relatively, I think, its pretty much the same, for EV's, there is more pollution in manufacturing, and for ICE vehicles, more pollution in day to day life. What do you think, do reply everyone. To make an EV, quite a lot of pollution arises.. so it is a big question... factors like range anxiety come in place, the warranty given by companies and how insurance companies react in case there is some issue, isn't predictable as this infrastructure is something new for them as well. Rachit, you've given brilliant points about how long can an EV last, and that's really good info! Loved the Video on how you explained. Kudos, team Motoroctane :))

Hi, good content. But I'm going to cancel my booked Tiago EV, due to the following reasons 1. It make no sense to sell my diesel AT Ameo at lower cost for expensive small EV (even it is feature packed). I regret for my impulsive booking decision 😬, and I cover a lesser distance monthly 500-600km. 2. Battery cost will obviously come down in 1-2 years. And make sense for me to buy EV, when it is nearer to ICE engine car capital price. 3. I disagree with the latest battery technology part, as there is a trend and urgency for EV adoption internationally. The technology for ultra fast charging and breakthrough is faster coming to market, and with competition increase there will get a better value for money ev. 3. And for my priority, I want few customisation like reverse sensor along with camera. But any extra fitting will voids the warranty of an EV. 4. For a small note, insurance cost is higher stating this is a new technology and less repair workers available. 5. Most of the EVs in india are not pure EV based (born EV), so inefficiency in performance, space management, and aesthetics (can see dummy fuel doors, less fit and finish etc) 6. Whatever may be the justification, still a 8.5 h home charging and 1 hour fast charging is a downside with the 4-5 minutes fuel filling time. 7. And lastly I am from a state where major part of electricity is produced from hydropower, but comparatively gives less insentive for ev adoption

Very informative. My only concern is around the number of charging cycles. Almost every company currently offers 8 year / 1.6 lakh km warranty on battery. So its safe to say that after this period/no. of kilometres the battery degradation will possibly start. Assuming 1 charges the car once every 3 days it would equate to 10 charging cycles a month or 120 cycles a year. At this rate in 8 years, 1 could possibly get just under 1000 charging cycles which is significantly lower than 3000 cycles as mentioned in the video

It depends from brand to brand. BYD gives 500,000km warranty in china. Of course no one is going to give you warranty equal to life of product. Only a fraction of its life. If this was the case, why don't engines start blowing up after 3y warranty is over? Of course, the more you take care of you vehicles the more it will last. The point is that its more likely you'll sell the car before you need to change batteries.

That is the degradation on decade old tech. Even if we assume decade old tesla tech is same as new tata tech, 10% drop in range in worst case for 2,00,000km driven car isn't much. Would like to know the consumption in electricity units for a complete charge of a midsize EV on a one charge per day basis. I think that in many states the cost per unit varies, also when the population of EVs runs into lakhs in an average sized Metro city, the infrastructure for the enhanced electicity requirement will have to increase accordinly. I suppose governments will be giving due thought to it. EV efficiency is measured in Wh/km. You can easily get 100Wh/km on tiago and 120Wh/km on Nexon. Mind you, Wh/km is actually a consumption value, so bigger is worse. Smaller means less consumption. So if you travel X km per day, multiply X with your Wh/km and divide by 1000. Thats the amount of kWh used for that trip/travel For example, we get abou 115-120Wh/km on Nexon EV over a 40km daily run. So our daily consumption is 4800Wh or 4.8kWh.We plug in at evening and car is fully charged in 1-2h. We are a electricity surplus country as of writing 2023, we have been for quite some time, mostly due to the large strides in renewable sector. We have enough power to charge EVs with no effect. Power cuts are rare nowadays compared to just a decade ago, and most are infra related (busted transformers or downed cables in stormy rains etc) At 3kW, charging an EV is equal to running two ACs for 2h (in our case of charging taking 2h). Even if there are 10 Lakh EVs in india (1 million), the power to charge them will only be 3000MW. Our total installed capacity is 4,11,649MW. A million EVs being added is just 0.7% increase in demand.

The thing is, cost of running is merely an assumption here. Many places the cost of electricity is much higher than what we assume to keep the running cost ₹1-1.2 per km. Also, finding fast chargers is a very tedious task, for say, someone traveling from Bangalore to nagpur. Many a times chargers are not working though they're shown to be online in the app. Using third party charging stations means you've to first deposit money in their app and then use it. Seen so many people regretting the decision to buy EVs in India. These are merely City commuters, who are sure that they'll be charging their cars at home overnight, but for someone who wants to use it for long tours, with no overnight breaks, it's impossible. As you said, 15A pe charge kar lo, bro usko 8-10 ghanta lagega. Take that into account as well. Secondly, have you ever researched the cost and impacts of lithium mining? How much water is consumed during the process? How much carbon emission is done to manufacture each battery? Just giving a lovey dovey picture is not a good way to put things in a perspective bro. Also, for people who live in societies as tenants, have you ever thought how much cost it incurs to set up a charger, and let us assume that i move to a new flat in a couple of years, what happens then? They'll pay the installation charges again. In countries like US and Germany, the charging infrastructure is actually comparable to the gas stations network across the country. They never even worry about the possibility of getting stuck by the side of the road in the middle of night. But in India, at this current situation, sorry to disappoint, but this is huge possibility. I have met youtubers who did such reviews advocating EVs and their pros , but even it came to buying a personal car, went for IC engine version. So I'm not very hot on this topic. Though, i would love to own one, it's not practical for most of the public right now.

@@sammy.3152 Clearly you haven’t watched it. Good luck with your FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) Agenda. Indians are smart enough to understand what’s better for them and EVs are economically better any day.

*Never buy ev car becoz* its price is 50% more and battery life is about 10 year which cost some what about 50% of car value so in 15 years you will hardly spent so much in petrol compare to ev's extra cost and that too without spending any battery discharge stress , so buy petrol fill any where save time and stress of charge by buying petrol car .

Very nicely explained. I have researched a lot about EVs, and even I found a few new points in your video. Regarding the pollution part, you just missed the point about Lithium mining being highly polluting. But eventually, if you use a car for about 10 years, lifetime pollution will be lower than an ICE car.

I don't have a covered parking facility. Don't you think that charging in such a scenario may be risky as it's exposed to the elements? Please guide
